Agent Carter Agent Carter General Discussion Thread - Part 1

As a matter of fact, given the awesome "magic typewriter", the main threat was quite literally telegraphed. ;-)

Yeah, what's the deal with the typewriter. Does anyone have any theories on it yet. Love the show.

Well it's Leviathan sending messages over radio, that's really all there is to it

Nah, it won't get canceled there is only a few more episodes left. Worst case scenario is they don't renew it for a second season. The show is good though, and this next episode looks to be filled with MCU goodness, so hopefully they will get a spike from people wanting to see the connections.

Well if Agent Carter is in the Prelude Antman comic then maybe we'll see a young Hank Pym on Agent Carter. I wouldn't shelve the show yet, there's still story to tell.

I'm still holding out for it moving to Netflix.

Apparently, I'm not the only one:

Man, this show would be so awesome if it dabbled on Marvel themes like the sixties and seventies captain america.

Right now, the show, as it is, is probably gonna get cancelled. Ratings are down.

Right now, the ratings are AOS level and it's still around. If they continue the downward trend however it won't get a second series.

The ABC Press Release tough indicates they're not in a hurry to cancel.

Unless, by young, you mean five, I think it's pushing it. Look how much older Peggy is in the prequel comic.

I was in favor of the same thing, but I just think the gap is too long right now. There's a better argument for a young Hank Pym miniseries.

Well, those that were "bored" by last episode surely got a cure for what ailed them tonight! What an episode!

What if we're seeing the backtstory to the winter soldier with the involvement of the Black Widow organization?

TWS showed a Russian file on The Winter Soldier so one assumes they're following the Red Room back story before he got transitioned to HYDRA's control.

I didn't think episode 4 was boring so much as rather unfocused by contrast to the rest of the episodes so far. I'll be surprised if it doesn't end up as the single weakest episode in the season. Episode 5 bounced back in a major way with what is likely the best episode so far. All this is of course relative to the strengths and weaknesses of the show itself and even a weak episode of this show is still definitely worth watching.

Well said.

Great episode last night. Loved seeing the howling commandos.

Very well put. I actually thought episode 4 was really good from a character standpoint. They muddled up Jarvis' value a bit (his terrible tell right after remaining stonefaced in his interrogation the episode earlier).

The Iron Ceiling was just incredible. A real treat for any MCU or Marvel comic fan. I really liked how the SSR/Peggy dynamic was completely flipped. Makes for compelling TV.

This show is so much fun. It's actually one of my favorite parts of the MCU. I'll be crushed if they cancel it. (NETFLIX!!!!!!!)

I wonder how they measure success over on Netflix. There's no broadcasts so that means no ratings in the traditional TV sense of the word. I only wonder because I hope DD is a smash hit over there to the point that it prompts Marvel/Netflix to jump start even more programming for that service beyond the Defenders series which is already in the pipeline. Then I think AC and maybe even AoS moving over if necessary would have a greater chance of happening.

Netflix can measure success far more accurately than ratings since they know every time an episode is streamed. They know how important or not a movie or TV show is to their costumers and re-negotiate rates accordingly.

Since Disney owns Marvel and ABC shows like AOS and Agent Carter are potentially more profitable for them since they're the one who will make money on syndication. They also have the later revenue stream of Netflix anyway, like they're doing now with AOS.

But what they can't measure (and what ultimately matters) is whether a show impacts their subscription numbers.

Betting on the netflix move is always a bit risky especially when a show is cancelled. If it were to be picked up, it would have to have a cult followin'. And, at this point in time, it just doesn't.

I'm hoping that it gets even better. More stakes, more war stories, more backstabbing, more moral quandries, more superhero stuff, etc. The show needs to bet on more interesting character moments and on more good action like we saw on the last show rather than small talk and smacking random dudes on a boat.

I'm just saying that there can be all sorts of stories done. With the Ant-Man Comic, the movie and probably hints of the Ultron A.I. in Age of Ultron I'd wager Selvig would be in it too since he hinted at Pym being in trouble in Thor

Oh, I agree there's room for stories. But unless they're going to jump Peggy way ahead in years and give her some aging making, Agent Carter might not be the best show for it.

I'm thinking flashbacks for Agents of SHIELD would work, but my preference is to create its own miniseries.

Yeah I can't see the jumping. Tho it would be cool if they did jump back and forth after establishing Shield

But what they can't measure (and what ultimately matters) is whether a show impacts their subscription numbers.
Netflix will have statistical models, data mining and metrics up the wazoo. I'm sure they'll be able to tell to a high degree of accuracy how a new show affects their bottom line, i.e. number of new subscriptions, attrition rate, etc.
