Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 3x11 - "Bouncing Back" - Discussion Thread

I'm really hoping that not all of the Secret Warriors are Inhumans on the show, it feels lazy
the team in the comics was much more of a mish-mash, and I'd prefer that here

They can have Quake and Slingshot as the two (newly) inhuman characters (and Lincoln as the boring one nobody cares about)
Then get Deathlok back, add an asgardian or something, or maybe have Peter Macnicol's character reveals he knows the whereabouts of a certian greek god's child on earth
idk, variety, mothaf***kas

These are characters who Fox clearly does not own, but the term mutant can't be used.
Why do you say this? He's not just a mutant, but also mainly a Wolverine villain. He debuted in a Wolverine comic, became dark Wolverine, etc. I wouldn't be so sure Marvel has him.

I agree, this is my fear as well. I understand why they'd make Daisy and Yo-Yo inhumans, in the comics they're both just "My dad has powers and somehow that gives me (completely unrelated) powers too". I also hope we will get more characters from the comics like them, and less made up original inhumans.

Technically, if I recall correctly, Fox holds MOVIE rights to mutants, x-men, etc, but not TV rights, so if Marvel wants to have Gorgon in SHIELD, they are OK as long as he doesn't cross over to the big screen.

I don't think this is correct. They got sued over Mutant X, even though it didn't even include any X-Men characters, and FOX is making Legion and Hellfire shows.

After further digging, you're correct. Marvel can't use x-men characters on the small screen. Where I was confused is, Fox can't either without Marvel's approval.

Nice to have Agents of SHIELD back! The midseason premiere was very cool and helped to set things up very well for the second half of the season. I really enjoyed Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, a.k.a. Slingshot, and hope we'll see her again soon as part of the fledgling Secret Warriors team. They gave her character some very nice depth and pathos, and showed off her super-speed nicely.

It was also great seeing William Sadler back as President Matthew Ellis, and I liked how he and Coulson arranged to have SHIELD operate in the shadows while the ATCU remains the public face of the government's response to advanced threats. I'm sure it's going to be very entertaining to see Coulson and Gen. Talbot working together.

Yeah, Lucio was even referred to as "Medusa Man" if I recall right... definitely inspired by Gorgon (Tomi Shishido).

Yeah, and I think another inspiration for Lucio may have been a minor Inhuman character called Stupor, whose power was the ability to reduce the motor skills of people and put them in a helpless state, which is similar to what Lucio did with his paralyzing gaze. In the comics, Stupor was part of a group of Inhumans bred by Loki to help him attack Asgard.

You're right. I hadn't realized he had a history prior to Secret Warriors.

was I the only one that started seing the shield plane in the beginning and thought it was a alien ship, and immediately thought "kree !!!" ?!

I definitely think Deathlok should be part of the team. At the very least, they should let us know what has happened with him. Last we saw him, his leg was dismantled and his eye removed, Fitz should be able to fix him.

Fantastic episode! Welcome back, AOS. We missed ya.

I'm not familiar with the yo-yo character this week. Is she from the comics? Is she inhuman? She looks like a speedster.

Yes, she's from the comics. In the comics she's not inhuman but, like Daisy Johnson, got her powers somehow because her father had mutated DNA. She is a speedster, but has some interesting rules, like she has to return to the point where she started using her speed.

Fun fact: in the comics she's Puerto Rican, in the show she's Colombian, but the actress is Mexican.

I'm a little worried about Inhuman fatigue to be honest. I love how good AoS got after a shaky start, but I loved it because it was normal people within SHIELD.

Either way, still a good episode.

I was happy saying yes they have a speedster, but she was out of there like in a Flash

I think the Inhuman fatigue lessen during the Winter break, because of Agent Carter :)

Loved the episode. Great use of Joey and great intro to Yo-yo

Love Yo-Yo! Besides being a character with true depth, I loved that her powers has limitations. She's tied to one spot. That makes her so much easier to write than Quicksilver or Flash. One huge problem with the Flash TV series is that his power level is all over the place. It pulls a viewer right out of certain episodes. When a guy can outrun lightning and bullets one day but get his ass handed to him by normal people the next it makes no sense.

Yeah, but it kind of felt like she was made a reserve member of the Warriors, they can contact her if they need to and vice versa.

Yo-Yo's characterisation was a bit up and down.

oh, boo
that was such a dad joke lol

I liked the episode but I thought the episode was a bit too serious at times. Was a solid start nonetheless.
