Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD - 3x01 - "Laws of Nature" - Discussion Thread

We all know rights issues are hampering all studios movies. There setting up civil war in this also

OK, loved that so much. I'm not massively feeling 'Daisy', but that's just because I like 'Skye' better. At least it works from a character standpoint, and the symbolism with Coulson being the only one not willing to let 'Skye' go works well.

FitzSimmons... Fitz was amazing this episode (well, always) and Simmons' storyline seems to have huge potential both for world building and character expansion for her. It seems to me that FitzSimmons are on diverging paths on an emotional level. Fitz lives with his heart on his sleeve, learning to live with more and more hardship while Simmons seems to harden herself as her coping tool. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

The rest was also great, Lash was menacing, effects were stunning, great to have the show back.

When we saw where Simmons was I instantly thought of Attilan. Though that may be unlikely, since it seemed very empty. But just the way that it looked like it was a body rotating around a planet. Thought it does seem like since this season relates to inhumans so much that it isn't that unlikely.
As mentioned before, there were two planets or a planet and a moon nearby, so it's not the Moon (also, gravity is similar to Earth's, and there is breathable atmosphere, though I guess there are ways around that).

A possibility is a gas giant exoplanet with an Earth-like (well, Earth-like enough) moon (where Simmons is), and some other moons.

If Jemma is on Attilan I hope she's being chased by Lockjaw. Cause that would be fun. Or if it's Hala, maybe she'll run into VinTak.

My other thought is, if she survived the Kree stone, I can't help but wonder if that Chitauri virus she contracted in season 1 helped her survive it.

So many possibilities.

Just Human - I saw what you did there. :pal:

Neither of those. The Guardians of the Galaxy detect something unusual and go off to investigate. Here's some fanfiction I posted on the AOS subreddit:

So, Jemma is trapped alone, on an alien planet, seemingly running away from something. Imagine she is running, from some creature about to eat her and then... BLAM! The creature explodes in a million pieces. Jemma looks up and she sees the Milano with what looks like a raccoon with a giant gun, smoke coming off of it.

Bewildered and confused, Jemma is speechless. Then Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians come out. Quill with a tone of arrogance in his voice says: "We're The Guardians Of The Galaxy! You're welcome."

"What?! You guys came out of nowhere? How did you find me?"

Drax quips: "We haven't been to Knowhere in weeks."

Jemma is still obviously very confused. Gamora grabs her hand and urges her to come on board.

"Come, it's not safe here. The creatures here love to feast on terran meat and terran meat is very rare in this part of space."

Jemma gets onboard the Milano and the Guardians take her back to Earth!

So I'm guessing the President doesn't want to bother asking these guys first to tackle on the "threats" that he mentioned on television:

lol; be that as it may, I thought the Season premiere was really great.

Could it be that Simmons was transported to some type of "prison" planet where beasts live to finish off any Inhumans that are unlucky enough to get sent there? The Inhumans knew the obelisk to be a Kree weapon against them. It seems that the obelisk only reacted to Inhumans before it grabbed Simmons (ergo Simmons has the "gene"). That may just be coincidence though as we only really saw the thing when Inhumans were near it.

On the planet Simmons is clearly being hunted by something. She covers the open wound on her face with mud to mask the scent of blood so whatever is chasing her will have a tougher time sniffing her out. How she has survived this long should be an interesting story.

Interesting sub-plot may arise if/when Simmons is rescued. If she has the gene, and they have access to terrigen, will she go through the mist voluntarily?

Nice theory, but Mack tried to kill Simmons when he was under the control of Kree tech. I guess it may have been self-defense, but still, that does not seem to be how he reacted to people with the gene (he didn't react at all to Skye, even when she pushed him).
It's still possible, but it seems improbable in my view.

This show is coming out swinging. Huge step up from the previous seasons, and I don't think it will let up, nor should it. Seems they finally found their rhythm last season at the half way point and have been going full steam since.

Awesome premiere! So glad this show is back. Lash looks awesome! And Simmons at the end there! So excited for this season.

Gemma must be on Hala...Right?
Lash..dayum

It still amazes me how far this show has come since S1. Fantastic premiere. Badass Fitz! :awesome: Can't wait to see more of what happened to Simmons. I'm liking Roz as well. May is one of my favorites but it's a testament to how much I enjoyed the episode when I didn't even realize that she was MIA until Phil mentioned it.

* Skye's outfit is badass
* Skye's tanktop is pretty badass too
* Fitz was ****ing awesome, especially his freakout
* Lance hunting down Ward? Hell yeah.
* Simmons, stranded on Planet X! Did not expect a reveal this soon but it is most welcome

Helluva season opener.

Also I dig the new anti-Coulson lady (Rosalind?). That conversation on the train was gold. In general the new direction seems very solid.

Which one of the male team will the new Inhuman guy be hitting on first since he is into dudes if I heard correctly?

Hope Jemma is back before winter hiatus since she has already been gone months in the show expanded timeline.

That... was... flippin' awesome! What a way to come out the gates!

IMO this is now easily the best show on network TV. I said this on the main thread and I'll repeat it. Loud and often. Anyone who loves the Marvel movies but isn't watching AOS right now for whatever reason is a dum-dum. A Duggan, I tells ya! The writing has come so far from (some of) early season 1's cringe-inducing dialogue. Loved just about everything about the episode.

The Inhuman escape opening sequence was excellent. Lash was really cool... monstrous and extremely powerful. And come to think of it, I too want some sort of axe/shotgun hybrid.

Loved Constance Zimmer as Rosalind Price... I don't think I've ever not loved her in any part. She just seems formidable. One of my favorite scenes was President Ellis parroting her words on TV, and Coulson going, "she really doesn't take orders from anyone."

And FitzSimmons! Fitz!!!! Simmons!!!!!!!! Ye gods! "Death" on the scroll = Hel? I doubt it, but I don't even want to speculate further. I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

I think a BIG reason why the show has gotten progressively better when compared to the first season is that they're utilizing characters that have powers and not limiting themselves to the whole SHIELD getup.

They've finally become their own thing without feeling like a shadow/one hour commercial for the MCU films.

Hello again fellow SHIELD Agents! Haven't been around here much since the last season ended. I hope everyone is doing well!

As for the episode, I thought it was great and Lash looked pretty sweet. I didn't even realize the season started tonight so I was excited when I saw it trending on Twitter.

While on Twitter, is anyone else a bit confused why shows like this and Flash/Arrow (and oddly enough Hannibal) seem to yield a bajillion fangirls? I don't venture into the dark world of tumblr, but anytime I look up something CBM related on Twitter it seems like its 90% fangirl type accounts and 10% normal people lol. It's like I'm watching my little pony or something haha. Just an odd observation I've had.

Can't wait for episode two and Flash and Arrow next week! (I think)

Good episode.
Daisy was badass and Lash too, Nice duo with Mack.
Lash look okay but i'm waiting for a lighter look.
Fitz was awesome, where is Simmons, I 'm hype.

Good premiere.

The actor playing Fitz gave it his all in his breakdown scene.

I like the new plane.

Interested to find out where Simmons is

Don't have any feelings about the organization that the president set up yet.

Daisy looks like she's put on some weight in a good way. Maybe it was just the tank top revealing more.:sly: Regardless, as usual she looked good.

Not looking forward to Ward returning. Sick of him.

Didn't really miss May. In fact I didn't even think about her until Coulson mentioned her.

Who or what is the guy that looks like Beorn from the Hobbit films? I was not expecting that thing to walk around the corner. When it showed his arm holding the security guard I thought he'd just be a tall guy and then that thing stepped into the doorway.:shock

"I should have brought a bigger gun. Or my ax. Or maybe an ax-gun combination." :funny:

you mean Lash?

This so needs a like button!:yay:

Ok so if Gemma has been gone for 6 months - that to me says that whereever she wound up, she wasn't hunted right away? Or maybe she was. If she's not near Attilan, then it's gotta be the Kree homeworld. And if it's neither of those....I don't know. Ugh. Netflix spoiled me. I can't binge on this season yet til next year and that's frustrating. I need all my answers NOW.

^

Yup, it seemed like she might have been held somewhere, recently escaped and was being hunted by something.

An alternate (but somewhat unlikely) explanation could be that the main storyline and Simmon's scene are not running concurrently, with the latter occurring months before the former. Like I said, this is probably somewhat unlikely.

I doubt that she's on Attilan. I don't think that Marvel would want to introduce that before the movie (which I fully expect to ignore all of the Inhumans stuff from this show because, well Kevin Feige and all).

Constance Zimmer was really good, but I still wish that she was playing an established CB character (Abigail Brand?) and that her group was SWORD.
