Alejandro Gonzalez to helm.....Birdman

Am I the only one who threw up a little when Emma Stone macked on Edward Norton? He's not exactly the most attractive guy, let alone in the context of the movie (due to his character being semi-unlikable), and their age difference (nearly 20 years!) made that aspect look totally weird & creepy.

No, basically I just got this out of the context :

Gwen dies, re-incarnates, (in a movie that was actually good):o to become the daughter of Batman and have sex with Hulk.

Plus that 14 year old kid gets her scholarship instead from ASM2, everybody wins!

Read an interview with Inarratu about the Times Square scene. Apparently the Spidey 2 team refused to let them use their mock-up set, so they just did it for real in Times Square. They had a band setup and play to distract people, then let Keaton out onto the street in his underwear. The camera phones are all genuine people. Amazing

haha! nice!

Saw this excellent movie last night finally.

I wrote a full review on my website and I will gladly post it or PM if the mods so allow...

Huh, that's fun. Shame Depp has a stick too far up his rear to sign on to do it though...

Having won the DGA, PGA, and SAG, Birdman is now the frontrunner for Best Director and Best Picture.

Eh, the guy has been willing to poke fun at himself, even on Life's Too Short there were some Pirates 3 jokes he was in on.

It think this would have been a little too close to the bone for him (and more likely his agent). This would be kicking him when he's down.

There's no denying Depp's in a serious rut, but it's not because of Jack Sparrow or his association with that franchise. It might have made more sense to stick RDJ in and poke fun at his absorption into the Iron Man character.

That sounds a lot like RDJ's Tropic Thunder character.:cwink:

I agree. Depp really isn't in a position right now to be poking fun at the character that made him bigger than big.

That would have been absolutely brilliant, but would have been maybe a bit too far out for most of the audience, which even for this movie is saying something. I am frankly quite glad such a film with so many experimental elements is getting the broad acclaim that it is, so there is such a thing as going too far conceptually.

Birdman won Best Cinematography tonight, but missed out on Best Film. Big win for cinematography though, very well deserved :)

That is true. I haven't really thought until very recently that it will be a very unique and out there film to win Best Picture where people have criticized the Academy of not choosing these types of films winning over the more traditional kind of "Oscar films."

So even if I wasn't crazy about the movie, it's at least a positive step in that direction and would change the argument, which is needed for the Academy.

Boyhood isn't as good as Birdman, but is a fairly artistically daring achievement as well, so if it (likely) wins the Oscar, it will be a step forward.

Now if Imitation Game or Theory of Everything win BP, then Oscar is back to rewarding bait films. If American Sniper wins, oh gawd.

Even with Boyhood winning the BAFTA, Birdman won the PGA, DGA, and SAG here stateside. The DGA has been the most reliable BP indicator in recent years, and the actors make up the largest portion of the Academy's voting body.

I have a very hard time seeing this movie winning all three of the major guilds and then failing to win the Oscar. It very clearly has a ton of support within the Hollywood industry.

Michael Keaton's hopes are all but gone at this point, sadly enough. I figured he'd lose the BAFTA, but he really needed the SAG to keep him in the fight.

I'm happy Birdman won best picture. It was a great film, largely due to the presence of Michael Keaton. I'm disappointed he didn't get the Oscar, but hey, what is done is done.

That's something that tends to happen with the Oscars, especially recently. You have like 10 different people who give award-worthy performances, and only 5 can even be nominated. So no matter how wins, some people are going to feel like another candidate got "robbed."

Highly deserving of the Best Picture win. At least people know Keaton played a big role in it's success, even if the academy went for the obvious biopic choice.

It's weird. I'm feeling a bit sour on this movie right now, because the ONE category (actor) I wanted it to win for didn't, and it won the big ones. It feels like a hollow BP win because they snubbed the best part about the movie while simultaneously celebrating it as the best film of the year.

I don't know. Boyhood was more special to me. Sure, it was a gimmick, but so is filming an entire movie in extremely long takes. Birdman as a movie just seemed so in love with itself and how cool/relevant it was, which kind of left me cold. So I guess it's fitting that it gets showered with Oscar love.

But seriously, Keaton got robbed and it's a damn shame.
