What they should've been doing the whole time imo. I'd take a dc studios that could put out movies.
I think they've finally got the confidence that these projects can be a big success (and that JL can be a huge success).

Like guys like Jeff Robinov really gave a damn about DC outside of Nolan. I'm glad Tsujihara actually seems to care and there's some confidence. Granted, they're in the proving ground stage, but still...

DC/WB is definitely a really annoying company to root for. I just wish they'd stop panicking everytime something doesn't make a billion dollars. And don't spend 225million on every goddamn solo film, they have to do more with that kind of budget.

Suits me if WB give real focus to DC properties going forward rather than find the next Harry Potter.

Yeah, now that The Hobbit/LotR, Harry Potter, The Matrix, and Nolan's TDK Trilogy are all done, WB really has no other franchises but DC Comics to go wild with... which is fantastic.

They really have nothing else, aside from LEGO, Scooby-Doo, The Hangover (which is over), Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and Police Academy... which half of these are frozen in time indefinitely for the studio. DC is literally the ONLY thing they can focus 100% of their efforts on for big-budgeted material. Jury's out on Pacific Rim 2, so overall this is looking very good for DC.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them isn't a guaranteed success, in my opinion. It sounds like a sure thing, but on paper it's a Harry Potter movie without Harry Potter, and there are no books that kids are devouring beforehand. I don't think it'll bring audiences in droves.

Yep great news for DC fans. WB seem to be a very reactive studio which was bad news in the past but could be great news when something actually does break the box office. (hopefully BvS)

WB likes to go big, but it doesn't always pay off.

Yay, it only took them running out of franchises to focus on DC. :whatever: SIGH, well at least they are trying now.

Don't get me wrong I do think Wonder Woman and Aquaman and Flash should have good sized budgets but spending so much on the first film is just stupid.

WB is going to be makin crazy money off the Harry Potter spinoff and the DC movies

I think they're going to learn their lesson big time when BvS ends up being huge. And they're doing it the cleverest way they could by introducing Wonder Woman (among other characters). The success of BvS will garner interest in future films and make the audience aware of everyone. Dawn of Justice is a better title than we're giving it credit for - it's really the Dawn of a lot of characters you'll see in the future, introduced in this Pre-Justice League film. It's perfect.

To me, WB is still concerned about the future of DC films, and that's why they're introducing these characters in this one film... and that's why it's genius. They don't even know it's genius. They're just testing the waters and it's going to pay off HUGE.

That Peter Pan movie is more of a tentpole film than The Man From U.N.C.L.E. It has a better release date, is based on a more popular property and it's starring Hugh Jackman. I don't know why, with all the talent involved, people on here see that film as a joke?

Because it took BvS's release date. Plain and simple, nothing more than that.

I know pretty much nothing about the Harry Potter spinoff. Is it expected to do Harry Potter money? And is it based on books that did well?

Man from UNCLE has Henry Cavill though. It just seems fitting that they'd advertise one Cavill film before another (this happens often).

Why is it so bad if WB offers a nice budget? It's not like they can't afford it.

I have more problem with WB putting in old inhouse talent, but that seems to be changing. It took a new president.

Is it expected to do Harry Potter money? It's expected, but I severely doubt it will happen.

And is it based on books that did well? No.

Well, JK Rowling is actually writing the script. HP still has a big following.

Ok thanks.

I kind of don't want them to get anything else too big until some DC films in this new universe start doing billions which should be enough to keep the commitment at 100%. Don't want to give these guys any rope to hang themselves with.

That's a plus. HP is obviously huge but spin offs of anything are usually less popular than the big daddy.

The potterheads will buy anything HP related. The Pottermore site crashes when JK post anything new. I don't think the spinoff needs to worry.

Not sure how true that is. Star Wars will have spin offs. Marvel has spin offs. DC movies are going to be spin offs.

Potterheads sure. But it's whether people like me who aren't fans at all but enjoy HP will. At the moment I know nothing about it but we'll see. And I'm not saying it won't do big numbers, just less than HP unless it has a specific additional appeal that HP didn't.

But I think it's the same for all of those too. The spinoffs I think will be less popular than the main event. I can't see any Marvel solo overtaking whatever the latest Avengers film does. Of the DC films I can't see anything matching BvS & the JL films. I can't see the SW spin offs outdoing the Episodes. And as a massive X-fan my interest in spinoffs of characters (films/comics whatever) I love is still only maybe 65-70% of what it is for the team main events. We'll see I guess, like I said I know absolutely nothing about these new HP spinoffs and there might be something special that gets everyone back.

It's a problem because sequels cost even more to produce and they don't know if the first film is going to make a trillion so why blow their load with the first film and give it those sort of impossible expectations? I understand BvS costing a ****load but WW, Flash and Aquaman should have to earn those kinds of budgets. I'm not saying keeping the budgets down will be easy but they should at least try.

But that's a risk with any big franchise. Once you go above 100 million or so, those are considered high. What's your definition of modest?
