Smith still gets the covers of magazines and he's perfect for making the rounds for talk shows. Signing him alone gets this movie better recognition with casual fans. Watch twitter/facebook blow up if/when he's cast. That's money and WB knows it.
Eh, with the advent of online marketing far trumping TV nowadays, the importance of press events and talk show appearances shrinks by the year. I've no interest in another Katie Holmes like scenario where they focus on the celeb rather than the property.

The characters should be the stars, and they'll have an easy time when said stars are Harley and Joker.

I love Smith, but I'd rest easy if he didn't nab the part.

I think Smith is still very close to being the draw he has been for a long time. He's not a flash in the pan, flavor of the month. He has a history that goes back a long way in entertainment. He's just made some bad project choices and frankly, been a bit overbearing behind the scenes recently. Hopefully he can see that passing on Django or his demands during MIB III were poor choices that have affected his career.

All that out there, the international market is so important today, and WB/DCE are going to be looking for people with HUGE BO potential overseas. Sorry... That aint Tom Hardy. That sounds a lot more like Smith. Even if Smith passes, going for a name like him says a lot about WB's all in mentality about it's DC properties, I think.

After Earth was still a hit overseas despite flopping over here so Smith has some recognition over there.

Agreed wit the bolded; WB trying to go after a guy like Will Smith says a lot about how serious they are about this DCCU.

Thanks for spoiling that for me, might be an idea to use spoiler tags.

Edit: I'm sorry I was trying to be sarcstic bit I didnt know what the sarcasm smilie was. Should have used a different smilie i guess I just didnt think.

If they get Will Smith for this, it will mean this movie is the big time. At least some of the marketing will be "Big Willy against the Joker" I guarantee it.

Yeah, for the Squad film, it doesn't have to be Leto as Joker with Robbie as Harley OR Smith as Manta... Let me channel my inner tiny Mexican girl and say... "Why not both?"

I like Smith. As long as he isn't allowed by WB to harm the film's quality with egotistical demands about how he has to be front and center all of the time I would be happy to see him sign on to a comic book movie. Certainly he would be a huge asset overall.

That would be key to me ISS. Is Will (if he was offered and would accept a role in Squad) coming to play in the CBM sandbox, bring his clout and star power and charisma to the table in the service of getting a new franchise off the ground... Or is he just going to cash a check and be a self centered diva?

I fear it will not be the best marketing decision.

I think WB should not sign him if he wants too much creative control. Suicide Squad should not be allowed to be morphed into a "Will Smith" movie.

I don't think Ayer would accept to make it Suicide Smith.

The question is: can Will Smith take a role in something that isn't a Will Smith movie?

Hopefully, he'll be smart enough to realize the benefits that this film could have for his career and be a team player.

On the Will Smith Suicide Squad discussion I think getting him would be a great move for both WB/DC and Smith.

Yup!

If they can't get Smith....I wouldn't be surprised if WB's and Ayer try and bring in Pitt, Keanu or maybe Statham.

Actors like those who have international name recognition and appeal who can do action and work well in ensemble films.

I'd take Smith over Pitt. The former has genuine charisma.

It would be amazing to have this theoretical cast in SS though. Pitt, Smith, Leto, Hardy... I mean, damn, that ain't no cast to sneeze at. Add in Robbie and whomever they may get to play Waller... This could really be huge, especially if the idea is to establish the villains in Squad that will be used for most of the solo films.

Would anyone object to Superman having a certain level of arrogance in this movie when it comes to the confrontation?

We know these two are going to fight it out, so Superman saying something like "you're just a man" to Batman, how would people feel about this?

I don't want him to be super cocky such as the guy in Justice League War, but if the little snippet we got from Comic Con, Superman looks pissed off lol so I can see him maybe losing it a little. Maybe he will not instigate anything but Batman will just keep on using full force on him, causing him maybe to do a little more damage to a human being than he would ever do.

As a Superman fan first and foremost, I do not want him to be a doormat in this flick, I want him to give as good as he gets. Not like receives a punch to the face and say something on the lines of "can we talk about this?" etc.

Some sort of statement about the pointlessness of resistance, made in order to avoid a fight and anyone getting hurt, is fine. If it comes across as arrogance, it has failed, however.
