He was called Joe one time in the movie as well.
Such a shame that in the movie his pants are made of that damn PG-13 fabricA
The oil rig scene Kal in totally naked, also, there are lots of other ships helping the rescue effort not just the one

The only cut/exclusion from the film I can't forgive: Jon and Martha Kent seeing Kal-El for the first time as the rocket opens up.
Didnt notice. As I said, been laid up for 2 weeks, just saw it today.

Ummm going back to the novelization, and some of the things it expands on, there's also a part with Lois being interrogated by Swanwick, Hardy and Hamilton
Prequel comic huh? How is Kara used? Is she still his cousin?
She's an ancestor of Kal-El. Since her ship crashed on Earth thousands of years ago, that's how they knew about the planet.
Figured as much since she wears the family name. I was just trying to see how they rationalize that with her being his contemporary cuz.
Also, the tapes Jor has of earth shows cave men hunting with spears. Lara thinks them savages, but Jor says that would have been millenia ago to them.
They found earth because of the ship's distress signal, but it wasn't totally Kal's doing (he still has no idea how any of it works). The ship was in distress the moment we detected it, he just provided the key to start the engine. Also, in the novel it lands itself half way up a mountain on as island far away from civilization and it's entrance is described much in the same way it was in the old comics. Just a door so high up none would ever reach it ... no that anyone would see it.
How they found the ship was never explained. Kal heard soldiers talking about something weird up north when he was working as a busboy in the bar. After he punches up the truck he heads north. He has been drawn northward his whole life, doesnt know why, he just has to go north.
lol!

I guess Kal just being up North activated it. Maybe the distress signal wasn't working properly since you'd expect it to give it off ever since it crashed.
Ah, so they were pretty much doing what Donner's film did, but didn't have Clark say anything about why he went up North or why he had all those random jobs. Heh.
What about him killing Zod? Did the scene just end like it did in the film and off to the next one as if it never really happened?
of course haters gonna hate... Trolls and people who don't want to move on... But the movie is an epic masterpiece period...why would anyone suggest that the family died? Besides those that hated the movie of course?
The death of Zod was different slightly. He didnt break his neck in the book, still had him in a headlock and when his heat vision was gonna bring down a large portion of the station of the station with many more people (not 3 like the movie) he tightened his headlock. Lois didnt show up after if I remember correctly.
The movie was a lot less violent than the book. The Kryptonian council were stripped down to their skinsuits, thrown to the floor and executed as Jor was walked away from the room. In the book the trial of Zod had new members of the council presiding mixed in with the few that survived, in the movie it's all the same people like non of them died. The stabbing of Jor was more brutal too. Also, the council knew of the theft of the codex, but with Jor's death and the impending doom of Krypton they decided not to put Lara on trial too.
Did the council say anything about Kal's natural birth and did they say Lara was just kept hidden for 9 months (if Kryptonians are pregnant for that long)?Charlie Jane Anders
Hey Greg, one more question. When you were dealing with the crucial part where...
SPOILER ALERT
...Superman kills General Zod, were you concerned about trying to capture his state of mind and the decision-making process that goes into taking a life? How do you see Superman reaching that kind of decision? 6/18/13 4:52pm

The most important thing was to not to treat this moment lightly. We wanted to make it very clear that this was a ghastly, agonizing moment for Superman. I actually ended up rewriting that scene a couple of times just to make sure Superman's anguish at the moment came across loud and clear. 6/18/13 4:57pm
hmm... very interesting. seems like a good read the novel.A couple doctor visits as a child. One with baby Kal screaming so loud it breaks windows for miles in Smallville. Them going to many doctors to see what's wrong (never going to the same one twice). Jor El in full "Superman" outfit.
There's more, but I cannot think of it now. Only seen the movie today because of my achilles injury had kept me home for the past few weeks. It'll come to me.
Kryptonians closer to John Byrne designs from descriptions
All animals of Krypton are genetically engineered (Jor's flying creature is part sea mammal for intelligence and aerodynamic body, part insect for stable flight and part cybernetic)
Everyone has a name. Woulda never known the scientist on Zod's ship was Jax Ur
Captain of the ship marveling at the greenhorns ability to work like no other, not be bothered by the cold and conditions or the haziing from the other shipmates
The oil rig scene Kal in totally naked, also, there are lots of other ships helping the rescue effort not just the one
He goes by the name Joe when he's wondering the world
He communicates with the whales ... and revisits them later in the story after he learns how to fly
Jor in full Superman regalia
The two house robots described like Byrne era Kryptonian robots
Last Days Of Krypton heavily referenced
Kryptonian tech has a huge basis in biology. Everything that looked flowing and like bone in the buildings was actually bone. The weapons are part metal and part bone too. Weapons are handed down through families as is everything else (all the carvings on everything on Krypton tells the object's history, who used it, etc)
Will think of more later.

(page 303 of paperback)
A little girl sobbed as the beam came closer, now only moments away. Superman cried out in anguish, knowing he had no other choice. It was Zod's life--or the lives of innocents. He marshaled every ounce of strength that remained within him. And then...
He snapped Zod's neck.
His form went limp, his fiery gaze extinguished instantly. Superman released the body and let it slump to the floor. Gazing down at the dead Kryptonian, he was surprised by the peaceful expression on his face.
Was this what Zod truly wanted? Superman wondered. A glorious death in combat?
His foe had gone the way of Krypton, but Superman wasn't sure he would ever forgive Zod for making the hero the instrument of his death.
