The scene with the doctor was filmed but cut.

He was called Joe one time in the movie as well.

The only cut/exclusion from the film I can't forgive: Jon and Martha Kent seeing Kal-El for the first time as the rocket opens up.

There's more than one. Are you talking the one with the scream? Or when Ma Kent talks about taking him from Dr to Dr after hopeing no one would ex ray him or try to take blood?

Pete works at Waffle House, not IHOP.

A
The oil rig scene Kal in totally naked, also, there are lots of other ships helping the rescue effort not just the one
Such a shame that in the movie his pants are made of that damn PG-13 fabric
:oldrazz:

Ummm going back to the novelization, and some of the things it expands on, there's also a part with Lois being interrogated by Swanwick, Hardy and Hamilton

Yes there is an interrogation. Then alarms go off everywhere and everyone runs upstairs (the military base is underground) to see Superman floating there in the air. So that scene happens between them taking her and his showing up at the gate. She tells them the same story that she told Perry, leads didn't pan out. Then they take them back to the same room they had Lois in moments before.

As for the him being naked. He's bathed in oil and set aflame when he gets on the rig. He saves quite az few more men in the book, in fact the dudes he saves in the movie is the second group he saves after bursting through a wall to let some trapped guys out. He is totally covered in fire and he's described to Lois by the rig workers as a flaming angel. He's naked but there's so much fire they don't get a look at him. Th of ink human torch level here, the crude stuck to his skin.

Prequel comic huh? How is Kara used? Is she still his cousin?

She's an ancestor of Kal-El. Since her ship crashed on Earth thousands of years ago, that's how they knew about the planet.

Figured as much since she wears the family name. I was just trying to see how they rationalize that with her being his contemporary cuz.

Also, the tapes Jor has of earth shows cave men hunting with spears. Lara thinks them savages, but Jor says that would have been millenia ago to them.

Her pod was that empty on he found on the scout ship. I just assumed she went on and had children with some Earthling (kinda like what they did on Smallville). Unless Kryptonians can live for thousands of years and she's just been hanging around the world this whole time.

Did the novel explain about the ship giving off a signal (due to Kal's key/USB/whatever and that's how the government out about it?

They found earth because of the ship's distress signal, but it wasn't totally Kal's doing (he still has no idea how any of it works). The ship was in distress the moment we detected it, he just provided the key to start the engine. Also, in the novel it lands itself half way up a mountain on as island far away from civilization and it's entrance is described much in the same way it was in the old comics. Just a door so high up none would ever reach it ... no that anyone would see it.

How they found the ship was never explained. Kal heard soldiers talking about something weird up north when he was working as a busboy in the bar. After he punches up the truck he heads north. He has been drawn northward his whole life, doesnt know why, he just has to go north.

I guess Kal just being up North activated it. Maybe the distress signal wasn't working properly since you'd expect it to give it off ever since it crashed.

Ah, so they were pretty much doing what Donner's film did, but didn't have Clark say anything about why he went up North or why he had all those random jobs. Heh.

What about him killing Zod? Did the scene just end like it did in the film and off to the next one as if it never really happened?

The death of Zod was different slightly. He didnt break his neck in the book, still had him in a headlock and when his heat vision was gonna bring down a large portion of the station of the station with many more people (not 3 like the movie) he tightened his headlock. Lois didnt show up after if I remember correctly.

The movie was a lot less violent than the book. The Kryptonian council were stripped down to their skinsuits, thrown to the floor and executed as Jor was walked away from the room. In the book the trial of Zod had new members of the council presiding mixed in with the few that survived, in the movie it's all the same people like non of them died. The stabbing of Jor was more brutal too. Also, the council knew of the theft of the codex, but with Jor's death and the impending doom of Krypton they decided not to put Lara on trial too.

why would anyone suggest that the family died? Besides those that hated the movie of course?
of course haters gonna hate... Trolls and people who don't want to move on... But the movie is an epic masterpiece period...

Interesting. So, he just choked him. Would've been less graphic I guess. All I know about it was what the writer had said...

Hey Greg, one more question. When you were dealing with the crucial part where...
SPOILER ALERT
...Superman kills General Zod, were you concerned about trying to capture his state of mind and the decision-making process that goes into taking a life? How do you see Superman reaching that kind of decision? 6/18/13 4:52pm

GregCox

The most important thing was to not to treat this moment lightly. We wanted to make it very clear that this was a ghastly, agonizing moment for Superman. I actually ended up rewriting that scene a couple of times just to make sure Superman's anguish at the moment came across loud and clear. 6/18/13 4:57pm
Did the council say anything about Kal's natural birth and did they say Lara was just kept hidden for 9 months (if Kryptonians are pregnant for that long)?

A couple doctor visits as a child. One with baby Kal screaming so loud it breaks windows for miles in Smallville. Them going to many doctors to see what's wrong (never going to the same one twice). Jor El in full "Superman" outfit.

There's more, but I cannot think of it now. Only seen the movie today because of my achilles injury had kept me home for the past few weeks. It'll come to me.

Kryptonians closer to John Byrne designs from descriptions
All animals of Krypton are genetically engineered (Jor's flying creature is part sea mammal for intelligence and aerodynamic body, part insect for stable flight and part cybernetic)
Everyone has a name. Woulda never known the scientist on Zod's ship was Jax Ur
Captain of the ship marveling at the greenhorns ability to work like no other, not be bothered by the cold and conditions or the haziing from the other shipmates
The oil rig scene Kal in totally naked, also, there are lots of other ships helping the rescue effort not just the one
He goes by the name Joe when he's wondering the world
He communicates with the whales ... and revisits them later in the story after he learns how to fly
Jor in full Superman regalia
The two house robots described like Byrne era Kryptonian robots
Last Days Of Krypton heavily referenced
Kryptonian tech has a huge basis in biology. Everything that looked flowing and like bone in the buildings was actually bone. The weapons are part metal and part bone too. Weapons are handed down through families as is everything else (all the carvings on everything on Krypton tells the object's history, who used it, etc)

Will think of more later.

hmm... very interesting. seems like a good read the novel.

The El family have their own citadel and observatory where they live on a nature preserve. When the baby is born there's a shot that shows the animals and such out there on Jor's land. Jor also almost doesn't make it back home after getting the codex because the family preserve is so far out from Kandor that the injured creature almost didnt make it. Her pregnancy didnt get noticed because in Zod's head when he sees her he registers something's different about her after not seeing her for more than a year. No, Jor doesnt say that she had the baby naturally, he looks at her, sees something is different then notices the antique birthing couch in the room.

Way I see it, rich family with a huge ranch, nature preserve, whatever you wanna call it. She didnt have to leave so non outside of the family knew.

The council didnt mention anything about the birth, we assume they don't know, they know Jor did something with the codex at this point. She's there at the trial representing El, but she doesnt speak because she doesnt want her crimes to come to the fore.

Sorry, to correct you, but he did snap his neck (and Lois did show up)
(page 303 of paperback)
A little girl sobbed as the beam came closer, now only moments away. Superman cried out in anguish, knowing he had no other choice. It was Zod's life--or the lives of innocents. He marshaled every ounce of strength that remained within him. And then...
He snapped Zod's neck.
His form went limp, his fiery gaze extinguished instantly. Superman released the body and let it slump to the floor. Gazing down at the dead Kryptonian, he was surprised by the peaceful expression on his face.
Was this what Zod truly wanted? Superman wondered. A glorious death in combat?
His foe had gone the way of Krypton, but Superman wasn't sure he would ever forgive Zod for making the hero the instrument of his death.

......
(page 304)
Lois appeared atop the stairway, having somehow made her way through the wreckage. ...

Ok, remembered it wrong. Read the book the day it came out (on medication). Saw the movie this morning. That's why I said "if I remember it correctly."

How did you like the book?

What do you think of this new design for MOS supergirl?... I've found in deviantart....

Who did that? Shouldn't her skinsuit be just like Kal's since it's the one he found in the ship?

Speaking of the skinsuits. When Jor gets into his armor to defend his home he's wearing "the" suit. In the movie it's clear that it's blue but all the other colors are washed out, like they didnt want to have him in it. Weird I know, but reading the scene I always thought it would be cool to see Jor in the actual suit with the colors right and everything.
