Who Is YouTube's #1 Superhero?

Any superhero fan who has spent long enough following the exploits of their favorite characters knows that inter-hero competition is an important part of the genre. Questions like "Could the Thing beat up the Hulk?" and "What if the Justice League and the Avengers fought each other?" have been the basis for stories throughout the years, but now there's a new way in which titans can clash:

As part of YouTube's Geek Week, the Google site has compiled a chart of its ten most searched-for superheroes (or superheroic teams). The results are, on one level, entirely unsurprising -- Eight of the top ten have starred in their own movies in the last few years, and the remaining two are not only rumored to have movies in some process of pre-production, but also have enjoyed their own transmedia successes through the years.

(Curiously absent are the X-Men; Wolverine makes an appearance, but the rest of his team doesn't. A sign that X-Men: First Class has already faded in many people's memories, or that all most people wanted from that team was Hugh Jackman in the first place? You decide.)

Whether or not this simply means that more movie success means more YouTube traffic, or merely that characters like the Flash, Blue Beetle and Nova need better PR, remains to be seen -- at least until YouTube re-runs this poll in the wake of next year's Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and we see if they dominate the list.

Prove it. All signs so far say otherwise. I've debunked your ideas of what the quote means, and again, do you really believe WB could really survive with just 1 single solo Superman movie(regardless of how well the movie before it went) against everything in 2015? No one wants to be the ASM/TDKR of 2015. They know they needed to up their game and prepare and finally they realize one single property is not enough but more than one and of course knew this for quite some time. If anything, Plan B would've been to reboot Batman set in the MOS world in his own solo movie and shelve Superman for later.

You are living in a deluded fantasy land my friend. If you think all signs point to this having been in the pipeline for a long time you are seriously misguided. Snyder's quote, WB being quite for weeks after the films release, the box office, the fact the cast and crew were all talking a direct sequel and not a team up film during the press junkets, and yes, the ****ing logo at the presentation. I'm sorry mate, you're flat out wrong, Batman is plan 'B'.

Briefly.

-We have the 200 mill in product and promotional tie ins to consider(though I'm not going to assume this is exclusive to mos)

-We have the reports that studios take a larger(if not full) cut of domestic profits vs international ones(especially those Asian ones). I say this cause MOS has currently outgrossed ASM domestically and there is no telling how long WB will keep it in theaters.

- We have the fact that MOS hasn't opened in all the major international markets yet and the ones it has it hasn't played as long.
Example ASM made like 40 mill in japan and I don't remember MOS opening there yet(could be mistaken). ASM made like 30 mill in Brazil over 3 months, MOS has made half of that and it's been playing in Brazil for just under 1 month...and so on and so fourth.

Lastly, and I would concede that the previous spiderman saga were simply a bigger international hit than the last anyone overseas has seen of Superman but that's beside the point.

So yes, if you are going to use Google, use it to it's fullest.
MOS is going ASM money, if not more at this point.

Also ASM cost more than MOS, but that's a bush league point given the circumstances lol.

On Man of Steel: Very different film. A total reconception of the Donner films.
Brushed off suggestions Man of Steel had no charm. "Henry Cavill is pretty charming."
His super-sequel (to his SUPERMAN RETURNS) would have been a bit like Man of Steel with an alien threat."

Seems like Singer is wishing he made SR like MOS, and using that Snyder/Nolan cast. That would be interesting to see...

I think it would be even LESS colorful, but have more well-rounded characters, that may or may not be faithful to the mythos. But that's assuming he actually sprung off comics.

Color me skeptical that this even happens. WB is well known for getting cold feet with its cb films.

WB needs a 2015 blockbuster -- whether it's summer or elsewhere -- period. Aside from the new franchise they have with The Conjuring (and they're going to make them!), they need a four-quadrant tentpole to inherit the Batman/Harry Potter spot that worked for them.

MOS was profitable, but WB thinks the followup will gain $1B if they add Batman to the mix. It's a calculated business move.

It's going to happen. Whether Snyder will make this a better movie than MOS remains to be seen. I know people say "rushed movies almost never turn out good" but most of the X-Men movies and critical darling Spider-Man 2 were rushed too. (Even the fanboy reviled SR was fast-tracked once Bryan Singer signed on in June 2004, and the film came out June 2006.)

Honestly, it doesn’t really help matters that Snyder and Goyer have yet to prove themselves in being capable storytellers on their own as well.

Snyder should read every solid Superman/Batman teamup comic in existence, so that he knows when Goyer's trying to distance himself from the genre. And Goyer should keep himself in check, knowing that MOS could have been better received if he had been a bit more conventional in the narrative structure.

Yeah I don't see where this "look over the script" thing came from. As far as I know it was only Chris Nolan and (rumoured) Jonah Nolan who looked over the script of MoS (the rumour with J.Nolan was that he rewrote parts of the third act).

That was only because Nolan was with Goyer helping with the story. This time he is only part of the film pretty much by name. I don't see why Snyder would go to someone outside production this time, if anything he'd go to Nolan again.

When I said, "MOS has made more money than ASM" and started that line of discussion, I wasn't talking about literal box office numbers.

I had an inkling you were talking about such things in your response, but I didn't want to assume.
