I wonder if a modern-set WW movie where all the magical, mythological elements are set within modern culture/settings will not smack too much of the PercyJackson/MortalInstruments-type movie that has not been that successful these days. But thinking of a back-to-Themyscira movie with the magical aspects set there makes me remember the Clash-of-the-Titans movies were not that successful either.

It is hard to hit that sweet balance spot between the magical and the mundane that the Potter films had.

You have a point. Though TITANS was successful enough to warrant a sequel, true neither set the world on fire.

I think the difference with Jackson was the YA gloss it had.

I think there is a balance that can be struck plus there is a lot more wiggle room with this being super hero material. It can be modernized but still be big and mythical in my view.

That's why I think Circe is a better choice than some other classic foes of Diana's to use. In the original Perez run they had it that she was the head of a vast criminal empire in the modern world as well as being an ageless sorceress of immense power. The Jimenez run furthered the idea of her being both an ancient power and foe of WW but also very much of "the now".

In any case if we get a sequel and Circe is the main threat or one of the threats in the film it is a great showcase for an actress to do some epic scenery chewing.

If not Circe there are some other villains that would be more suited for the modern setting that could bypass the mythology aspect that something could be done with. Psycho, White Magician, Giganta, even Cheetah.

This is real?

Seems reasonable. Raise money by offering a ticket to see WW at the LA premiere.

Makes me want that long over due solo WW toon series.

You know, the greco-roman skirt just seems so obvious and natural, it makes me wonder how anyone ever thought Wonder Woman fighting in her underwear was a good idea.

WW is obviously a much more fetching sheila in her skirt than in stars and stripes bloomers cobber. :sly:

Why has Aquaman got a more prestigious cast than WW? It has Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren and Willem Dafoe in addition to Amber Heard and Jason Momoa.

It would've been nice to have a few more people like that for WW. Surely actors can't be flocking more to working on Aquaman than to WW? You'd think WW might be the bigger deal.

Nicole Kidman was offered the role of Hippolyta, wasn't she? But she couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts.

I was complaining about the same thing six months back, why there are no big names associated with this movie ?

I mean, why does a movie like The Huntsman: Winter's War, has more A-list cast than Wonder Woman ?

Why did actresses like Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain decide to be a part of that movie instead of agreeing to do some role in Wonder Woman ?

Why did Cate Blanchett thought that role in Wonder Woman was not good enough but taking up a role in Marvel's Thor : Ragnarok was a good thing ?

The Clash of the Titans movies weren't done as well as they could have been or they might have been more popular, don't know for sure though. I definitely favour Themyscira stories or at least as much based there or other locations outside of the real world (like it looks like Ragnarok will heavily feature non-Earth locations) alongside Earth sections. The 2 Thor films to date also seemed to suffer the more exposure they had to Earth scenes although we also don't know if that is just because those scenes happened to be weak.

Yeah. This should be a great opportunity for some of the big actresses out there to turn out and help what is the definitive female superhero film make it.

If by prestigious you mean American Hollywood... Wonder Woman has an International cast. That's why. Dolph Lundgren and Amber Heard are more known names but not better actors than the lesser known WW actors.

Yeah, look at all that prestige in this flop film. I really don't care about 'big names'. I just want the movie to be good.

The role of Hela/Lady Death in the MCU is certainly more commensurate with her talents than the role of Hippolyta, it's just an all-around better deal for Cate Blanchett, plus she wanted to collab with Taika Waititi
Aquaman has a reportedly bigger budget but I'm happy with Wonder Woman's supporting cast, if anyone cheapens the movie a little bit that person is Gal Gadot, and whose fault is that...

Common sense people. Most of the characters in the Wonder Woman movie are small and they don't have potential for sequels. Steve Trevor is a lead, so it's a no brainer for actors like Chris Pine, even if he dies (Chris Pine doesn't want to play a superhero because of Star Trek). Maybe his only chance to star in a comic book movie.

Queen Hippolyta, General Antiope and Ares are the only big names in this movie and their roles are small too, because the movie is not set in Themyscira. And who'll promise the actors that there will be a sequel? Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright and David Thewlis are nice castings, if you consider all things.

The roles in Aquaman are way more lucrative. The movie is set underwater and the characters are kinda well known and could be used in future movies.
