All Things Wonder Woman: An Open Discussion - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 22

Just saw the movie. These are my initial thoughts. Btw I want to preface the whole thing by saying that there was a glitch with the air conditioning system in my theatre and it was absolutely freezing in there for the whole movie. After about an hour I literally started shivering in my seat. So I'm not sure how big of an impact that was but I just wanted to get this out there.

I loved it! The tone of the movie was set with the new DC Intro and it is absolute fire! I can't wait to see it in every single movie. I thought the beginning of the movie was gorgeous. Themiscyra looked beautiful, the short historical exposition at the beginning was one of my favorite things in the entire movie. I'm a sucker for great visuals and it doesn't get any better than that. Contrary to what a few people are saying I felt the movie moves along at a fairly brisk pace. It doesn't necessarily give us a pause to contemplate on things. I wish we had more of Robin Wright's Antiope. Gal and Chris's chemistry is something I've never seen before with any other couple in a superhero movie. Steve Trevor was at the heart of the movie as much as Diana and I loved that. The movie is shot beautifully, and it doesn't feel out of place at all in terms of the visual standards set by Zack. And finally Gal IS Wonder Woman. I honestly don't think anyone could have portrayed her any more faithfully than she did. Patty absolutely nailed her characterisation.
Now some of the things I didn't love - The slow-mo. It did bother me a little. Especially in Themiscyra. I just felt it came of as a bit of 'trying a little too hard to impress early on'. But I got used to it as the movie went on. A lot of people complained about the CGI but to me it wasn't an issue. It's not groundbreaking but it's no worse than any of other movies in the genre. I did feel the sound effects were a little lacklustre. Cause some of the punches and kicks didn't quite sound that meaty to me. I had no problems with the final battle and I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. I did however have a minor gripe with the way the battle was resolved. And finally the biggest weak point of the movie for me was the dialogue. Felt a bit cheesy at times

But that's about it. All in all, one of the best origin movies ever made. I still love MOS and BvS slightly more because thematically it's a lot more intricate and complex. This was more straightforward.
8/10

Oh and Chris Pine is the best Chris. :yay:

I'm going to see this again and hopefully I'll enjoy it even more without the air conditioning problem. Honestly it was so cold that no one in the audience even bothered to stay for the credits. They all dashed to the restrooms:woot:
If there had been a mid/post credit scene everyone would've missed it.

Jenkins is awesome :awesome: :awesome:

Just saw the film, it's incredible, 8/10.

Now, WW > BvS UC > MoS > . . . . SS.

It was a damn good film, I was impressed. Love the new DC logo featuring the Justice League. The film explored Diana's origins perfectly. the relationship between Steve and Diana was definitely the cornstone of the film, Gal & Chris Pine have great on screen chemistry. It was funny and engaging. The only weak part was the villains Ares, Dr. Posion and the General. Outside from that solid film.

Also btw how come Steve discovered the island...or the germans for that matter?

Here's what I think -

Steve Trevor lost control of his airplane and crash landed on Themyscira, the Germans were looking for him and they found the plane debris floating on the sea water and then they decided to proceed in that direction.

My non spoiler review :

t was amazing. I just came out of the theatre, and it was great. Another really good DCEU movie. I cant believe I'm getting the DC movies I ever wanted. Ladies and gents, we have the perfect Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot completely nailed it. Patty Jenkins deserves all the plaudits. They did it guys. They did it.

First things first. I was worried about this movie. Ever since BvS we were hearing about "course corrections" and all those buzzwords from the execs. Well I'm happy to say that was all BS. The thematic messages are the same, that despite the darkness, its the heroes that will prevail. That she will help them accomplish wonders. Man of Steel and Wonder Woman feel like natural prequels to Batman v Superman.

They nailed the tone of this movie. The humor was very appropriate, and mostly "fish out of water" stuff. And it totally landed. It was all natural. And guys, this movie is dark.

There were moments where I was like "DAAAAMN it went there". Like I always say about tone, it should fit the story. And this totally fit for a origin story for Diana in World War 1. I was worried they were gonna make DC movies like Marvel, and nope. This is nothing like that. This gets me so much more hyped and assured about JL.

Now onto the movie. It was genuinely a great movie. Solid 8.5/10. I need to see it again. The 3D was ****, I will try to watch it in 2D next time. The action was great(but not amazing), the direction was great, and the actors outdid themselves. All of them. They were all amazing. But Gal and Steve stole the show. I didnt expect this, but they were amazing. The pacing was a bit off. I feel like they could have extended some stuff. It went by pretty fast, I think they could have added another 10 mins. But all the characters were handled so well. And by far the strongest part of the movie was the emotions. They hit it out of the park with that one. So many emotional moments. The visuals were great(need to see it in 2D first) and the score was really good too.

Overall its a really solid movie, a great origin story. Its up there with the likes of Batman Begins, Spider-Man 1, Iron Man and Man of Steel
, and I'm interested to see where Jenkins goes with the sequel, and what she does in JL. I like MOS and BvS UC a bit more than this, but this is totally a better movie than BvS TC and SS. This was the Wonder Woman origin movie we deserved guys. Patty Jenkins, you deserve all the praises you get.

I am so excited for Justice League now. We have such a perfect trinity. Henry's Superman, Ben's Batman, Gal's Wonder Woman

Agree with the bolded part. Glad you enjoyed it.

But why

was Steve able to penetrate the dome shield when the island and the Amazons had been hidden and protected there for thousands of years and it had never happened before and they had never been discovered before?

M Night Shyamalan
@MNightShyamalan

Am so excited to see @PattyJenks #WONDERWOMEN. Big fan. Her direction of the pilot for The Killing was one of the best episodes on tv eve

Nice to see Shyamalan supporting Patty.

I suppose

At the time around WW1, several new inventions helped man to travel further like Steam powered ships and aircrafts which made Themyscira more susceptible to getting discovered. Before those inventions, very few might have crossed the magical veil and managed to land on that island.

The Amazons might have killed the intruders or imprisoned them, that could have happened before Diana was born.

That's what happened.

My DCEU ranking is BvS UE - WW - MOS - SS.

I'm not really buying that. It's magic, it doesn't suddenly lose its power because a plane flies into it.

I don't believe that the Amazons had ever been invaded before that German attack.

Themyscira in the comics has always been undiscovered by the Man's World until the arrival of Steve Trevor.

That is what we see on screen.
But it doesn't explain why Steve and the Germans could suddenly and easily penetrate the shield when it had never happened before.

Maybe it was just fate. Maybe it was in Steve's destiny to end up there. That's the way I'm going see it.

Also I don't think it was a shield in the sense of a force field. It was a veil that prevented anyone from getting a visual of the island. Like being shrouded in mist for eternity.

Question I have about the Amazons

Are they supposed to be immortal? I figured Diana would be, or just have a super long lifespan seeing as she's a demigod, but the Amazon's history reaches all the way back to the creation of man (according to Hippolyta's story anyway). I was under the assumption that Amazon's were all kind of super, so it surprised me that they can be killed by bullets. So I guess that means they're not indestructible.

I see what you mean. That makes sense.

Yeah this has been discussed and the Amazons
were likened to the elves in Lord of the Rings - immortal but able to be injured and killed.

I was surprised by that too. This is just a wild guess and I maybe way off the mark but maybe they showed that to emphasise the uniqueness of Diana, that she is the god-killer.

That's how I interpreted it too.
Like the batcave entrance hologram in TDK Returns.

Great film!! Haha, you know what I really liked!? A special shout out to

1 or 2 scenes with Dr. Poison and Ludendorff that could just as easily fit in Batman and Robin. When the camera slowly zooms on Poisons face amd she says "the results will be.... terrible dun dun duuunnnn."

And the part where she threw the gas grenade and a single gasmask into the room then locked the door and they were just out there trolling the guys inside almost like Batman '66 villains.

Loved that.

It was interesting in the scene when
Antiope is saying "You expect the battle to be fair!" and then Diana turns it around on them and gives them that shockwave blast and we see that she is more powerful than the other Amazons and different from them.

Haha yeah
that is the kind of stuff you saw in Batman '66.
