Am I the only one bothered by the term "people of color"?

Also, it is worth noting that I've read several articles stating that cops actually kill and arrest more whites than blacks, but whites do represent a bigger part of the population and more outrage occurs when is committed against Black Americans.

(Non latino) Whites Represent over 62% of the population, Black are just above 13% so in theory for every 5 white person arrested you should have 1 black.

Instead Black are incarcerated at a 2.3% rate, while White are incarcerated at a 0.5% rate.

Now while one may argue that Blacks are more violent due the the conditions they live so that leads to them more likely to be jailed, that doesn't explain being incarcerated for drug use where studies show both whites and black use drugs roughly at the same rate but blacks get arrested more for it as a percentage

A good example would be crack cocaine and powder cocaine. To quote Wikipedia, people convicted in federal court of possession of 5 grams of crack cocaine will receive a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years in federal prison. On the other hand, possession of 500 grams of powder cocaine carries the same sentence.

Crack cocaine of course being much more prevalent in black communities.

Recent laws have brought that disparity down slightly, but it's still considerable.

US drugs laws have a long racist history.

I don't think the term "people of color" originally held any negative connotations, and I know it still doesn't for most, but lately I've seen some people use it as their way of excluding white people from the human race. Melanin theorists mostly.

This is a double edge sword in my opinion, the drug arrests that is. On one hand, I believe that law enforcement DOES look for, or head hunt if you will, for Black American's more so than white and via the racist belief that blacks are more likely to commit crimes than whites will be more likely to stop a black than a white. The other part is that I think the living situation of some Black Americans, as you alluded too, brings law enforcement into more situations where they find drugs.

This is not a "racial" persecution, this is an economic persecution of any race. Cocaine is generally regarded as the rich man's drug, while crack is cheaper and available to lower income citizens on a regular basis. I give you the strict punishments for acid, a common "white man" drug as my proof.

On my own note, I do believe that the majority of cops are bullies looking for a bust for any reason. And I'm of the belief that if you aren't hurting anyone or committing theft or something along those lines, do what ever you want. That's my libertarian belief. But I'm going to say this, until that belief takes full effect my best advice is don't break the law. Don't give the law enforcement a reason. Don't overreact, sit silently if you have too. This is coming from someone that went to jail for a DUI. I did wrong, I paid the price, I own up to it like a man. But I'll say this, I was respectful to the cop that arrested me (outside of a yes sir followed by a smirk ;) while he tried several times to provoke me further. It was evident to my lawyer on the tape that this was happening. Even under the influence, I didn't play the game. So don't play the game, don't break the law to the best of your ability I suppose, and let it play out. Know the law and know your rights.

The new racism is saying there is no racism. I forget who said that but I thought it was an accurate summation. Bill Maher I'm guessing.

The new racism is still racism. Some people are just having a hard time accepting that white people aren't the only racists in this country and the media still likes to perpetuate that. That's why white cop killing black kid stories get national attention and no one cares when a white cop gets killed by a black guy. It's why one of the heads of #blacklivesmatter tweeted that the Virginia shooter was white. It's why George Zimmerman was labeled as White Hispanic. **** like that doesn't help race issues...not to mention race baiters and living mummy Al Sharpton and Obama stepping into the fold to comment on black deaths. Fighting racism with more racism isn't going to end racism. Black Panthers tried that in the 60s and MLK Jr was the one that did any good because that man was above race and will always be remembered for that.

Man Raised $5,000 After Vandalizing Own Truck, Blaming Black Lives Matter Activists

A Texas man was arrested and charged with making a false police report on Friday after allegedly defacing his own car and blaming it on supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement, the NY Daily News reports.

Earlier this month, Scott Lattin of Whitney, Texas told KDFW that vandals had spray-painted “Black Lives Matter” and “[****] Your Flag, Your Family, Your Feelings, Your Faith” on his truck after he wrote “Police Lives Matter” on the vehicle’s back window.

“They need support so they can feel what they do, putting their lives on the line every day,” Lattin told the station at the time. “It’s the only truck we have and because of this, it’s totaled now.”

After the report aired, the Lattins were able to raise $5,855 in donations through the website GoFundMe.com.

Authorities, however, quickly noticed discrepancies between the damage seen by police and that shown on television. From KDFW:

“We had initial video when the officers took the report and then when we saw your story on Channel 4. When we looked at those two videos, there were some differences in those and that led us to take the investigation into a different direction,” [Whitney Police Chief Chris ] Bentley said.

Bentley said when they took the report there was no damage to the inside of the truck. But when FOX4 showed up, Lattin showed that the glove box was ripped off and the seats slashed.

According to court documents, Lattin later admitted to vandalizing the vehicle for insurance reasons.

“One of the social media pages said ‘My husband is an officer, I can give you $25 because that’s all I can afford,’” Bentley told KDFW. “That just ripped at my heart.”

Racist idiot

The thing is that anytime there's a new term for minorities or whatever, bigots who will try to be covertly racist will use the term in passive aggressive, read between the lines ways.

Also, it separates people into categories. So if a white dude who is super right wing, he'll use the term 'person of color' in a negative way, to separate who are the 'real' Americans and who are not.

Please direct me to anyone who has ever actually been offended by the word 'cracker'. That never took off as derogatory no matter how hard anyone tried.

Just because you're not offended by it doesn't mean someone else isn't. There's always somebody offended by something so it's best to never use that derogatory word ever again. That shouldn't be a problem for any non bigots. Do you think there's a good reason to allow it's continued use?

Cracker has been along for a very long time. Do you know what it means?

I have a question. As most of you know I DJ and a lot of the music I play samples hip hop and rap. I am also white and there are a ton of DJs that are also white. My question is how do people feel about a white DJ that plays music with the N-word in it? Does it get a pass because the DJ isn't saying the word or most folks consider it an art form?

My cousin's wedding had a white DJ who was aptly told to switch songs when he did so, haha.

I could def see how that would be a problem for a wedding DJ and that was extremely idiotic on his part. Most of the DJs I know who do weddings and events like that always assume they need to play the edited version unless specifically told it's okay.

I like Louis CK's bit on it. "I'm a white male, there is literally nothing you can say that can hurt me. What are you going to do, call me cracker?...Ruined my day takes me back to owning land and people."

Funny, considering he's half Mexican and nobody realizes it. In fact, Spanish is his first language.

The C word is a slur and does not get a pass. I don't understand why people think it's ok to use slurs aimed at white people and think that they should be fine with it, that it's no big deal.

When you're in power, it is what it is. It's similar to why Americans can kind of be acceptable targets in jokes but everyone else can't.

That's just an excuse for hypocritical bigots and it doesn't get a pass anymore.

It's an excuse for people who claim to be oppressed by racists and bigots to be able to be racist and bigoted against others.

I say we can use the term people of the color so long as we can call ourselves people with no color, or off-color. Then everybody is equally offended.

The C word?! :lmao: you can't be serious
