CW’s “The Flash” has brought back Amanda Pays to play Dr. Tina McGee, the role she played in the original live-action version of the superhero drama.

Pays joins John Wesley Shipp, who played lead Barry Allen/The Flash in the first series and who plays the character’s father in the reboot. Pays will again play the brilliant geneticist — although this time she is working for a rival tech firm to S.T.A.R. Labs, the company that has taken an interest in Barry Allen’s need for speed.

“When we decided to bring Tina onto our version of ‘The Flash,’ who better to get than the amazing actress who originated the part?” said exec producer Andrew Kreisberg. “Like with John Wesley Shipp, we are so proud and excited to have another actor from the original series join us on our new adventures for Barry Allen.”

The original series aired for one season on CBS.

I like it. Aside from the nostalgia blast, the rival company angle may lead to some eventual and interesting conflict for Barry.

This has gotta be so strange for her. Shipp is returning to the franchise too, but he's playing a different character. Pays is playing Tina McGee again, now 23 years after their show ended.

Maybe she'll be visiting from somewhere else in the Multiverse.

:awesome:

I'm pleased as punch for Amanda to get a role.As a die hard fan of the original series,it's like a dream come true!:awesome:

TBH,the more I think of it,it would've been cool if this were a direct sequel to the original.Grant would be Wally,JWS would still be Barry and Amanda would still be the original version of Tina.:csad:

Alex Desert needs a role now!:argh:

This news honestly made my day and put a BIG smile on my face. Im soo happy. Amanda Pays was great in her role and its so awesome that shes playing THE SAME role after almost 25 years. This show is shaping up incredible!!

Now lets get Julio back!!

With two of the leads appearing on this series, I wonder if Warner Bros. would consider re-releasing the 1990 series on DVD/Blu-ray again. Or Netflix.

The show is already out on DVD just waiting for the blu ray..

Yes, I'm aware, but that was also a good 10-ish years ago. I don't think anyone would complain about a re-release, especially considering you can't even find it in most stores anymore.

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda dig the old early 90's grainy quality of the DVD, I don't think I necessarily need to see a High Def version of it. That's part of the charm. That's just me though. :oldrazz:

This is so good, I wish you hadn't mentioned it.

Super cool news. I always liked Pays, especially in the original Flash series. I hope they are talking about multiple episodes and not a one shot appearance.

This sounds like a "Jane Badler on the reimagined V" situation, so there IS precedence for this kind of thing.

This pic is so 90's ( just looking at it makes me remember 90's music on MTV.) :o

Good to hear she's returning! I remember I had a bit of a crush on her in the original Flash.;)

As a fan of the original show I'm happy to see her back.

Hopefully when Mark Hamill is done filming Star Wars they can get him on the new Flash to play a character as well.

I was 5 years old when the 1990 show came out, I wished I watched it. As a kid i wouldve ate this up especially since I was obssessed with Tim Burton's Batman at the time.

It would be cool if the rival company is Cadmus labs.

I was the same age. I saw the original Flash show as reruns on the SyFy channel in the mid-90's.

So... when will Mark Hamill be joining the Flash? I hear he's acting again.

Oh! He should voice Grodd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This show will probably be in it's 5th season before Hamill gets involved.:csad:

I hear he's going to be a little busy for the foreseeable future.:woot:
