Comics Amazing Spider-Man #600 discussion thread

moraldeficiency, there's many concerns we can have about this issue. Lady Ock being the villain of the piece instead of Octavius is not one of them.

Slott has been hyping that he's raising good 'ol Doc Ock's threat status to Dr Doom levels. How he feels so honoured to be working with such an iconic Spidey villain on this landmark issue.

It's going to be :otto: himself.

Christ enough with the transsexual Goblin stuff, I think most of us had a pretty good idea she was going to be Menace anyway. I do not see the big deal about this.

It's just people being hung up over something that is not there.

There is no clues at all to her being a transgender person, it's just some comments that got taken out of hand.

Wow, really bothers you to have pete get schooled by a noob transexual goblin huh? Probably bother me too if I was in your shoes. As far as enough with that, well when they stop shoving the genderbending menance in our faces then you'll probably hear less about it. I don't see a huge deal about this either I mean if a funrunner can school pete why not a transexual preggers goblin? Maybe next a crossgendered midget threat? It's a brand new day, less classic villians more gender switching young kids to beat on Mr. Parker.

Joker, I don't think lady ock will be around either, I just don't like the track record of what they've done to "reinvent all the classics so far" and I was just establishing some things they need to avoid.

If any of you read ASM #597 today, we got a little hint in the story of Doc Ock's forthcoming evil plan in #600.

Spoilers ahoy:
Little robots are seen shorting out electricity transformers all over New York. Ock is seen silhouetted with his mechanical arms. And he's in front of a huge computer panel with eight screens on it, all of them monitoring his robots at work. Various locations they're at include Times Square, at the Daily Bugle, and Forest Hills.

Ock is watching the video feed his Bots are sending him at his undisclosed location.

Soooooo it looks like Ock's got some BIG evil plans for New York. Yay!

:otto:

Awesome, though we could do without the consistant aunt may has sex reminders.

Glad to see them turning MJ's return into a full fledge return.

While other people seemed to go crazy that MJ wasn't really around for the past year, i loved it. It made you want to see her again, it made her appearance that more important and really did set time in this new world to develop before she came back.

Also very interesting how they answered the remembering of memories question.

People seem to think that MJ was in the books since day one... :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

My god, even AFTER Gwen's death, she took off from the books after Pete's first proposal for over FIVE YEARS before coming back, and even then it was only "as friends", which it stayed that way until Peter "magically" proposes to her again...

Ugh...

:yay:

Fred Van Lente & Mark Waid discuss the "permanent" return of Mary Jane to the book with ASM #601...

:yay:

So not a fan. First off they're having Mark do the initial story, a guy that doesn't even like the character. Secondly it seems like their setting MJ up to be the new whiney girl for Peter Parker. First they had Vin (the whinest of whiney women) now his sister and next MJ. Yeah, just kill her off please, I'd rather that then having the character become annoying.

I don't think Waid has ever said he doesn't like the character. I know in interviews he said that he thought that they shouldn't be married, which is a much different thing. But a writer saying that he doesn't like a character is like saying he doesn't like adverbs. Now, certainly, there are writers who don't "get" certain characters. But I don't see why MJ has to be all about the marriage (can open, worms spilling...)

He's said he doesn't like the marriage and Peter should be with gwen. His HOM issues are his fanboy wet dream imaging of what he thinks Peter Parker should be.

Doesn't have to be all about the marriage, but their bringing her back in the role of the ex that knows all of Pete's fault. So she's gonna be the *****. Rather that not be the case.

I'd rather pass judgement until I read the books... could be the face-lift that Mary Jane has needed for a long time...

:yay:

Yes from likable to *****. This could be her sin's past.

Though I will say it's probably a smart move. If they just make her completely unlikable people will stop caring about the issue as much.

Steve Wacker's name just seems dirty...

Anyway...yeah, Doc Ock finally back in # 600 that is so freakin' sweet. I saw his little cameo in the latest ASM and almost Wackered in my pants. Maybe we will finally get that Green Goblin/Doc Ock battle by a real freakin' writer, Dan Slott...and not that cop out poop head Mark Millar.

It feels good to nerd out again....

Much as I don't like Millar on a lot of stuff, I actually loved his MK Spider-Man run.

SIAT! Long time no see. I hope to see you around more often

I didn't care for it at all.

The Sinister Twelve was the biggest joke of all. What the heck was The Lizard doing there with them?

Oh the grouping sucked, that said a few things millar nailed well:

Got the symbiote moving around as originally intended. Wish it still was. I'd love to see the take on the symbiote going from spider-villian to spider-villain: vulture, rhino, ock...etc.

Great characterizations with MJ and Black Cat.

Norman Osborn as a serious threat and the letter at the end thanking Peter? Awesome.

I liked everything except the John Jameson thing. Mj was awesome there, as was BC. That said, it's still oodles better than what we get now....and yeah, Norman was awesome in it....hasn't been since (except for the Ellis Thunderbolts stuff).
