Andy Serkis IS Alfred Pennyworth

I kinda dislike the way that Johns writes Bruce Wayne in Earth One.
I accept it because it's an elseworlds so I can see it as kind of "What if Batman was a moron?", and even then I enjoy the read and the art and so on.
But I also think it's clumsy and silly and I don't really want to see it fully adapted into something more mainstream.

I enjoyed Earth One very much as an elseworld take, not gonna lie. It's a fun read.

There's a lot of interesting ideas and concepts in Earth One, including Johns' take on Alfred. But his take on Bruce Wayne and Batman is really weak IMO. I do like the Batsuit designs though.

It’s always kinda been my impression that Johns doesn’t like Batman much. He’s a Green Lantern guy. But there are some interesting takes on the characters in Earth One. And Gary Frank’s art is always a treat.

According to Tom Hardy, Venom wrapped
Shooting today so, Serkis could in theory be with Reeves for the majority of the shoot.

Yes, he could because he doesn't need to be there for that. And please dont @ me anymore dude, everytime I see your name it's just dreadful, you're just negative 80% of the time and I'm tired of you coming across like you know so much more than everyone

The director has to be working on a movie until the movie is released. Directors don't just shoot a film and call it a night, they're involved in the editing and to some extent the visual effects and so on.

He can split his time between the editing room and playing Alfred. Yes, he has to be there for at least a good portion of Venom’s post. Sony or not, he just made the movie.

I think he'll have a small but important role that'll seem longer than it actually is when we see the film.
He could also just mostly have scenes where he communicates to Bruce through the cowl when he's in the streets and stuff.

I imagine something similar to Jon Favreau's screentime in Far From Home, since he also had to cram that in between directing The Lion King and making The Mandalorian.

Where did Hardy say that? I see a post on his Insta captioned “V2”, but nothing saying shooting wrapped.

I’d expect Alfred to have less of a role than Favreau in FFH, or at least less directly involved in the action like Favreau was in the climax.

We have no way of knowing! Serkis could film separately on a green screen away from everyone else and still be in every scene!

Plot twist, Alfred will be a CGI character performed via motion capture and look like this

Please God no, I hate that take and we pretty much got it with Jeremy Irons. We've never really got the comics/BTAS Alfred on film with all of his wonderful facets. Gough had the butler and paternal parts down pat, but felt too frail and elderly. Caine's interpretation had a lot of the key elements, but it felt different and like a fresh take, that was more rough and tumble with more overt military elements (which went on to inspire the more over the top military take in Earth One).

Yeah, the heavily bearded look reminds me too much of his persona as Klaue in the MCU. I would love for him to change it up and take on a distinct look for the role.

So basically Michael Caine's Alfred, or Sean Pertwee's riff on the same idea from Gotham? It's been done a lot lately.
Sean Pertwee's Alfred could have just as easily been played by Vinny Jones and achieved the same affect .

ah **** several months later and I still cannot get over this casting. What a weird choice.

Hopefully he can prove me wrong

I think he's a fine choice.

Irons is my favorite so far due to his dry delivery and sarcasm.

They’ve all had dry delivery and sarcasm. Caine is the best with that because he was actually hilarious. Irons needed better dialogue but his voice is naturally menacing so he always felt too cold for me.

He’s a naturally warm English dude with a bit of a rough look to him. And a great actor to boot. Not to mention the shorthand he has with Reeves after starring in his last two movies. Just curious, what don’t you see in Serkis?

I love Caine but he brought a rougher edge to the wit than the classic characterization as best portrayed by BTAS Alfred. Caine' s Cockney accent made the one-liners more ""cheeky" than "dry" to me. I'd love to see Serkis combine Caine's warmth with a more refined accent and bearing.

The biggest thing is his manner and voice tone. I always picture Alfed as someone with a calm, cool voice and gesture, but Serkis is completely opposite, in that he talk fast and has aggressive gesture while talking. To sum up, I imagine Alfred like Christopher Nolan, and end up getting Taratino LOL.

And Serkis is also a little bit too short. Overall he's just nothing like the Alfred I imagine, same góe for Jeffery Wright as Gordon. But while I'm fine with Gordon choice, there's something about Serkis that doesn't click Alfred for me.

Wright as Gordon isn’t a big stretch to me, but it’s hard for me to mentally get there with Serkis as Alfred.

He’s an actor. Caesar chose his words carefully. Reeves will direct him to speak slow or fast.

Yea, he speaks slowly and deliberately as Caesar and kind of even as Snoke in Star Wars.

Also, in addition to Gollum, he voiced the Witch King and random Orcs and Uruk-hai in LOTR. He’s a man of many voices.
