Just because Will is using his fame, wealth, influence, etc. to get movies made with his kids doesn't mean that anyone has to go see them. Of course somebody saw it as it made on a $40 million budget:

Maybe its just me but I can imagine a pretty awesome mix with Whip My Hair and It's the Hard Knock Life.

Not for the movie or anything. Just the songs themselves sounds like they could be edited together and sound good.

As for the movie, I guess it could be cool. I dont know. Its been years since Ive seen the original.

First of all, this is not directed at any particular person or even entirely towars this board. There are many online that share many of the comments posted here. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and of course so am I so please don't take it personal and get defensive because then you are kind of telling off on yourself IMO.

I personally have no interest in the Annie character in any of its previous incarnations nor future ones so I could care less about this particular remake. In general I don't mind remakes, it just depends on my interests.

For those of you who are bent out of shape because Will Smith is producing his second remake for his children, here is a little piece of information for you. The very first remake in Hollywood was "Great Train Robbery" made in 1904. The original movie was made in 1903. My point? Remakes have been taking place over the entire history of Hollywood and regardless of anyone's feeling, it will never stop. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

For those who disdain is due to a celebrity who is merely making crappy movies consider that the Karate Kid remake scored a 67% on the tomatometer and a 75% from moviegoers. By the way: The last Twilight movie scored 50%, the much publicized The Expendables 41% and Wall Street 2 54% (Where is the outcry?). KK is actually in good company with movies like Machete 72%, The American 65% and the Other Guys at 78%. In comparsion Inception scored 86%. Of course none of this means that any of us are required to like the new Karate Kid just because many critics and general moviegoers did, however you cannot make a credible claim that the movie sucked just because it wasn't your cup of tea. That like me saying that I didn't like Inception or The King's Speech so they are terrible movies.

You may not have liked KK and I may not have liked it but some people liked it enough for it to make $359,125,613 worldwide. I would say this would be enough of an incentive for anyone to continue with his or her supposed nepotistic ways. (By the way Will Smith is a film producer, his job is to make films that are highly profitable. If he can do that by making movies with his kids, its not nepotism, its smart.)

There were approx. 700+ films made in Hollywood in 2010. I saw 20 of them. Don't like the movies Will Smith are producing then don't go see them. He really isn't forcing his children on you personally.

For those of you who are disgusted because of the display of nepotism on display here, nepotism has been a reality in human civilization dating back as far as the ancient Egypt or beyond. It permeates our society and societies all across the world. In Hollywood itself here are a few examples that come to mind:

* The casting of Tori Spelling as Donna Martin in Beverly Hills, 90210 received much criticism. Her father Aaron Spelling was the executive producer.

* Hollywood's The Coppola family includes many distinguished filmmakers and actors. The careers of Sofia Coppola, Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman have been attributed to aid by director Francis Ford Coppola who cast his daughter Sofia in The Godfather Part III. Cage changed his last name in order to distance himself from such charges.


* In 2010, film student Cody Gifford got a dream summer intern job, reviewing movies for NBC's The Today Show, co-hosted by his mother, Kathie Lee Gifford.

* Many reality television stars became celebrities because of their family connections: Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Brooke Hogan, Nicole Richie, Kelly Osbourne, and Brody Jenner just to name a few.

* In According to Jim, the star James Belushi uses his kids in the show.

Now if there has been a public outcry in the fashion that is being done in this thread about how anyone of these celebrities have shoved their kids down our throats then I must have missed it.

Now some of you may say its about his children having to earn the role. How do you earn a role in Hollywood? Why how did Hallee Steinfeld, an unknown earn her role in True Grit? Because someone in Hollywood liked her audition? You think an audition is proof of earning a role? How was Steinfeld and other actors and actresses able to even get an audition in the first place? Because of someone they know or because a friend of a friend who knows someone at the top? Jaden and Willow are fortunate enough to know someone too. How many actors and actresses in Hollywood history "earned" their role on the casting couch? How many Casting Directors are actually a good judge of talent? Did Tatum O' Neal even audition in her first movie with her dad in "Paper Moon"?

The biggest thing that I don't understand is that the majority of you could give a rat's ass about Annie or nepotism. All the mean things that are being said about these little children, I cannot help to believe it comes down to jealousy that Will Smith has what many have don't and wish they did: Money, fame, a good wife, wealth and a certain leverage to get his kids into the business. This is a means for rage and in some cases, racism to be directed. Many of his critics would do the same thing Will is doing and probably worse if in his position. So those who keep whining about what Will is doing, and what he is, they just comes across as whiny losers. Get a life and stop getting caught in the lives of people who could care less what is being said about them Why? Because Will's focus is on him and his family and increasing his wealth. Maybe his critics should do the same.

In April 2007, Newsweek called him the most powerful actor on the planet. Why have it if you aren't going to use it. Maybe that's the problem.

Just my 2 cents.

Will Gluck in Talks to Direct ANNIE Remake Produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z; Willow Smith Drops Out

Development on Sony’s musical remake of Annie continues, and the project has both gained and lost a player. The project was first announced in early 2011 with Will Smith and Jay-Z producing the redo as a starring vehicle for Smith’s daughter Willow Smith. Willow is now 12 years old and has since outgrown the lead role, so she is no longer attached to star. However, movement on the project continues as Easy A and Friends with Benefits helmer Will Gluck is now in negotiations to direct. Hit the jump for more.

In addition to directing, Gluck will rewrite the script, which was first written by Emma Thompson and subsequently rewritten by Ailine Brosh McKenna. The pic is a modern day reimagining of the story, and Will Smith and Jay-Z remain onboard as producers with an eye towards a fall 2014 release date. Gluck has shown a penchant for helming charming and wildly entertaining films in the past, so he seems a good fit to introduce Annie to a new generation of fans. Per Deadline, Jay-Z had the following to say about Gluck’s involvement:

“For Marcy Media’s first foray into film, we couldn’t ask for better partners and mentors than Overbrook Entertainment. We are excited to work with Will Gluck and Sony Pictures Entertainment. My well-known affinity for the classic ‘Hard Knock Life’ makes Annie a natural vehicle to lead us into the world of the cinema.”

Gluck is attached to a number of projects at the moment, but it appears that Annie will now be his priority. With a 2014 release date eyed, we should hear more news soon.
