Annie Remake

I will hate this unless Samuel L. Jackson is cast as Daddy Warbucks.

The only way I'll see it is if Samuel L Jackson is cast as Annie. :o

Everyone, let's whip our hair in protest of Willow as Annie.

It's a hard knock life :csad:
Dr. Evil's kid should play Annie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9jZiKFLL6MI#t=17s

I read the headline on comingsoon and I was like "Okay, fine, I see no problem with a black Annie cast. If Smith wants to be Daddy Warbucks, let him go for it." I had no problems until I saw Willow Smith's name.
They should make an all white version of The Wiz! ......oh wait.

Really who cares about any of this.

Gluck has shown a penchant for helming charming and wildly entertaining films in the past, so he seems a good fit to introduce Annie to a new generation of fans.

I saw the revival of Annie on Broadway a few weeks ago in a theater filled with kids who seemed just fine with the original version. I'm not against a new movie version, but why a modern-day take? I'd rather see it still take place during the Depression, instead of seeing Annie playing video games and taking a product-placement filled tour during "NYC".

I don't understand the thinking of he is shoving his kids down our throat. I mean why follow them then? I have not seen a movie with any of his kids and it's not because I have anything against them it just didn't seem interesting to me.

What next remakes of Richie Rich or Home Alone?

BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD Star Quvenzhané Wallis in Consideration to Lead Will Gluck’s ANNIE Remake

Though it was only a few weeks ago that we learned that Willow Smith was no longer going to be starring in the Will Smith and Jay-Z-produced musical remake of Annie, it appears that director Will Gluck (Friends with Benefits) already has his sights set on a pretty big get to lead the film. EW reports that Beasts of the Southern Wild star (and Best Actress nominee) Quvenzhané Wallis is apparently in consideration to star in the redo, though the magazine cautions that Gluck and the producers have yet to make any firm casting decisions. Hit the jump for more.

Though EW makes sure to note that nothing is firm, I actually think Wallis is an inspired choice to lead the musical. This would be a major leap for the 9-year-old actress who made her film debut with the stunning Beasts, and I’m inclined to believe that she just might be keen on taking the gig given her penchant for dancing at recent awards ceremonies. In addition to being flat-out adorable, Wallis showed considerable promise with her work in the Sundance indie and I’m interested to see how her career blossoms from here.

One hopes that her parents and handlers will ensure that the girl’s childhood isn’t sacrificed for an acting career. We should hear more with regards to the Annie adaptation soon, as the goal is to start production later this year for a fall 2014 release.

Watch the trailer for the 1982 film below.

Haven't seen Southern Wild but given what I've heard and the fact that she got a ****ing Oscar nomination, I'm going to guess that she's got more acting talent than Willow Smith ever will.

So, at the very least, this is a step up.

It's official...

Annie will be released during the winter holiday season in 2014. QUVENZHANÉ WALLIS’ favorite pastimes are reading, singing, dancing, acting, and playing her iPod and Nintendo DS. Her favorite TV stars/singers are China McClain, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus. Her favorite sports are basketball, volleyball, dance and cheerleading. Her upcoming films include a role in Twelve Years a Slave with Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and director Steve McQueen.

I was thinking about this the other day. Well I'm pretty excited. I wonder if this is going to be controversial when news gets out that the new Annie is black. Any publicity is good publicity.

Hmmm, interesting. For some reason I don't think it's going to cause as much controversy as some might be expecting.

So this film is co-produced by Will Smith and Jay Z?

Did hell freeze over or something?

^Because some fans of stuff hate anything involving a race change.

Who cares about annie? No one even remembers her.

Except that they do? It's had 3 Broadway productions, 2 movie versions, and there have been productions touring the globe for most of the last 35 years. It's honestly never gone away. And nor should it, it's still a good musical.

I saw the movie in 1982. I saw the Broadway revival last month - sold-out show with tons of kids in the audience who were loving it as much as we did when we were kids.

So yeah, people remember Annie.

Damn, that's awesome. I just hope Hollywood doesn't burn this kid out.

I just want Annie to have blank, soulless eyes for once.
