Annie Remake

Watched the trailer seemed like usual remake fare.

Cameron Diaz is all kinds of wrong for the evil foster mother role. I like how the girl was very street-wise to Foxx's political agenda and they share that agenda without emotion, at first since they'll obviously become close

The comic was actually a lot darker. The last one ended in 2004 on a cliffhanger with Daddy Warbucks being informed Annie died at sea.

I never get the point of these articles that compile together and handful reaction tweets. I bet I could find a dozen examples of any bizarre and stupid viewpoint on Twitter.

oh noes there are racists on the internet?

my entire happy view of the world has been shattered

plz tell me it isn't true

The funniest thing is that the majority of the people bashing the movie based on race, wouldn't even watch the movie had white leads.

Annie is just a random catalyst to display their hate and shortsightedness.

I think it's the public shaming that follows. When it happened with the first Hunger Games movie, most of them wound up shutting down their Twitter accounts because they were getting harassed for being idiots.

I prefer not giving them the attention in the first place, but I'll forever be amazed at how stupid some people are at saying that kind of stuff publicly...

Some people said the most baffling and insensitive things when the first Hunger Games premiered. So bizarre and hateful, but done in the most blasé way possible. So strange. As if they think their comments exists in a vacuum until Gawker digs them up (which is a great service)

2010 was when the strip ended. Warbucks surprisingly did make a cameo in one of the Dick Tracy strips last year asking for his help to find Annie if his (Asp and Punjab's) espedition to find her fails.

Anybody here ever see the vintage Mad Magazine parody of Little Orphan Annie, called "Little Orphan Melvin"? It's hilarious.

Just saw the trailer. The movie looks like those stock generated Fox films which somehow allow to get the worst out of the actors.

I like the little girl as Annie but other than that everything else looks so goddamn awful. Especial Diaz downright teeth gratingly embarrassing to watch acting. Yuck.

Diaz didn't look great I admit but I think the film itself will be charming. I think I'm ready for it

I'm sorry but I just can't get into this version of Annie at all. I have fond memories of the 80's movie with Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan, and if I want a more faithful update of the musical I'll watch the T.V. movie with Cathy Bates as Miss Hannigan and Audra McDonald as Grace Farrell.

Was that the one with Alan Cumming as Rooster? That one wasn't bad...

As I recall, Will Smith put this version together with the idea that his daughter would play Annie, but had to recast when she told him she didn't want to do it. Maybe he should have just shelved the whole thing then. I don't think the world was really crying out for another Annie remake.

Trailers can be misleading, so this might turn out ok. But Diaz looks terrible here. All here lines were pretty crappy.

Wait what exactly did the Hunger Games get hate for?

Yeah, that's the one. It also has the original stage Annie in it singing the song NYC.

I think what bothers me is that it takes place in the present, not in the 40's.

The character Rue being played by a black girl.

Who was also a black girl in the book...which these twits seemed to forget when they were complaining about it.

"We need someone to play a vile, unatractive, and exploitative orphange owner who's also an alcoholic."

"How about that chick who plays Princess Fiona?"

"Great!"

"And how do we modernize it?"

"Let's throw in references to Facebook and have Jay-Z do the soundtrack! The kids are into that, right?"

:doh::doh::doh:

Yeah, I didn't get the idea of putting it in the present day, either. Annie is pretty squarely set during the Depression. If you're going to take it out of there, you might as well just write your own plucky orphan story and come up with an original movie instead of redoing an established property that many people are already kind of tired of. Three different filmed versions of the show is enough.

Eddie's Nutty Professor remake didn't catch any ire and was actually pretty well received so I don't really ***** about race lifting movies if it's done well.

God bless Hollywood.

Interestingly enough, the original comic was to be about a boy, called Little Orphan Otto.

That's... actually dumber than I was expecting.
