Yeah, a lot of people never really gave Beast Wars a chance out of some skewed "loyalty" to the G1 characters. That seems like refusing to read a Jaime Reyes story out of loyalty to Ted Kord (which people are also doing) to me. But whatever.
It is cool how you mentioned Jamie, considering I read BLUE BEETLE, instead of the hero whose fans get the most anal about "legacies", Green Lantern, which I have never read. Yeesh, the Kyle vs. Hal stuff STILL goes on.
Both BEAST WARS and REBOOT aired when I was younger and had less patience for shows. I wasn't going to wait more than a season for something to "get good".
I'm hoping that they have another Annihilation after this one is done. For some reason, this book doesn't sell that well but it's one of Marvel's best books. I'm sure Thanos is coming back with a bang and I can't wait to see it. Also, I'd like to see more of the old heralds of Galactus involved in these books more.
And I still want Wendell back.
I actually felt Thanos had a nice sendoff in the first ANNIHILATION and would not really care to see him return. He's the space genre's most overused rogue at Marvel, and I liked that he finally was bookended. That isn't to say he can't appear again simply because Death finally accepted him as her consort/lover, but I wouldn't want to see him play villain again. He's probably never going to top some of his past exploits, anyway.
PhotoJones, before he was banned, thought that Kang was going to be the villian of AC. While he turned out to be wrong, and Ultron is working fantastically, I wouldn't mind seeing Kang for a third go.
AC doesn't sell well because...I don't know. The first round wasn't the best seller, either, but it outsold it's sequel. Maybe Giffen had more star-power than DnA. Maybe this was promoted less. Who knows.
Given Deadly Genesis, I wouldn't really feel good trusting Brubaker with Marvel's cosmics. Slott doesn't seem to be as in love with the cosmics as he is with the straight-up Earth superheroes. Giffen would, of course, be perfect but who knows if he'd be available? Starlin would just make everyone suck except for Thanos, who would kick God in the nuts and laugh and that would be it.
Maybe Ron Marz? He has experience with Marvel's cosmic section and he's not a bad writer. Really, I'd say just give it to DnA again. They're doing a good job with Conquest.
Marz could pull it off, so could Ostrander, although DnA could be better with another go, having learned from errors and written a lot of sci-fi before. Giffen's exclusive at DC, so, that's a moot point. Brubaker would probably be out of his element.
