This "Evolution always wins" thing is turning into something almost as bad as the "FOR YOU" crap from TDKR, I swear.
As noted:
Faora-Ul said:
You're weak, son of El, unsure of yourself.
The fact that you possess a sense of morality - and we do not - gives me evolutionary advantage.
And if history has proven anything it is that evolution always wins.
When I see the actual text of her statements I take it to mean this:
She knows she's genetically engineered and understands it, she's also keenly aware that because of her genetically engineered "profile" that she will do whatever is required to ensure her role is fulfilled which removes her necessity to consider things before acting (that dreaded morality crap, at least in her opinion most likely) or doing things that we "lesser evolved beings" would find immoral or outright wrong based on our societal rules.
He's unsure of himself for an obvious reason that many people still miss: it's the first real fight he's ever been in over the course of his whole life, and he's got a lifetime of unconscious self-restraint going on that can't just be switched off in the blink of a Kryptonian eyelid. Add on top of that level of restraint another one that I'm confident Jonathan would have imbued into him:
Never hit a woman.
That right there would surely make him act completely differently towards Faora as well, and in their entire battle he never directly punches her straight to the face or even attempt it. After she says "unsure of yourself" he tosses a body blow - not at her face/head. Then he tries to body check her and she catches him mid-air and choke slams him into the ground.
Outside in the street when the other Kryptonian and Faora double team Kal and he spends most of his time just pushing her away while directly trying to attack/punch/hit the other Kryptonian - I say "other" because I still don't have any 100% confirmation that it's Nam-Ek even in spite of many people making the claim (that character isn't listed in the credits but Dev-Em is, go figure).
And the final "hit" comes from Kal slamming into her with another flying body check just as she's about to slice and dice Hardy and face-planting her into the pavement to a degree that damages her suit's helm.
But Kal never directly goes for a solid in-the-face punch on Faora, and that's probably because of his human upbringing more than anything else.
As for her actual "evolution always wins" statement I take that as pure Kryptonian genetically engineered arrogance which she has in spades, nothing more. She more than likely knows Kal is a natural born Kryptonian and like Zod she considers it heresy and probably even a major negative, especially after fighting with him for just a few seconds in that scene inside the IHOP.
He doesn't do anything to impress her, aka he doesn't put up a good fight, so she figures he's just another weakling because of being a "pure birth" or whatever.
For someone that's never been in a real fight before catching her in mid-air, I'd say he does pretty well.
