I don´t think so, it´s a well-established franchise at this point, like HP or Spider-Man. I have no idea why Shrek 2 was so huge being little more than a retread of the first with lotsa pop culture jokes that were already dated by the end of that year... But, well, go figure...The Lizard said:True, but Shrek 2 was also a fluke in that it had no real competition in the "family" movie category for the entire summer it came out. Thus, kids just went to see it over and over again.
Judging by the number of CGI animated funny-animal movies with wannabe-hip pop-culture related humor in the theaters right now, I don't think Shrek 3 is going to have the same advantage the second one did.
