Are there any banned Members that you kind of miss? - Part 4

I'm an atheist and I've pretty much never entered the Jesus Christ thread, but why couldn't the guy who made that comparison just get banned and his posts deleted? Other threads aren't locked because one guy is a *****e. Seems like an overreaction.

I would agree with you, if it were just one person....but most of the time in threads like that, it is a few to several on both sides of the issue that argue continuously.

Also, it may very well be just one person as you say, but then instead of just reporting that post, 5 others reply to it, and that ends up making the 1 person, argue with 5, which has now turned into a major derailment...so the report button as an option other than replying, IF USED MORE, would really help out in many controversial threads.

BUT, I KNOW....that it is extremely hard not to reply to some, it is hard for me as well. :yay:

It's instant gratification. Telling someone off is instantly more gratifiying than reporting their comment then waiting for a moderator or administrator to come in and deal with it.

Even the best members can't always resist an occasional response at someone clearly asking for it.

On the plus side (???) the Jesus thread has been reopened and I assume under threat of closure if it gets like that again. Of course that doesn't mean that the people who posted in it that helped the confrontation (me and others) are off the hook. :p

The politics forum, the religious threads, and the anti-religious threads are just black holes...I don't know why anyone is stupid enough to venture in those threads and post. I find it funny that these places exist on the a site about movies and superheroes...

This site has pretty much turned into a massive social site for everything and anything. We're a community by this point that no longer just discusses Spider-Man and LOTR.

Totally understand and agree....:yay: I've fallen to that temptation myself on several occasions....:csad:

I can see this thread getting the locked treatment shortly if the same debate that got the Jesus thread locked goes on.

nope

off-topic posts get deleted, as you can see

or well, can't see anymore

Just a reminder to everyone...this is from our FAQ, I have posted it in this thread and many others all across the Hype on many occasions...but it still snaps up people -

Violations of Probations and Banning
If you are on probation, you may not post under any account for the amount of days for which you are on probation. Violation of this probation will result in the permanent banning of your ORIGINAL account (permanent loss of entire post count, avatars, etc.,) and an extension of your probation to your NEW name. Continued violation of this rule may result in IP banning. If you are permanent banned, you may not return to Hype. Note: the Administrators and Moderators can tell if you hold more than one account.

Guess that temp ban and the temp lock on his jesus thread just pushed him over the limit.

Ah well, tootle-oo then.

SentinelMind's banning is definitely the most notable ban of late. I'm frankly surprised he made it this long without incurring the wrath of the ban for some of his past comments.

Don't remember. Saw it post twice then it was gone and his main was banned.

I didn't realize he was banned until someone else mentioned it and I had to go check. It wasn't an event or anything, it was like he was banished from the realm and when he tried to sneak back in the Mods dragged him off into the shadows and made it quick and quiet.

Where did he frequent again? Was he a nomad on the Hype? I can place the name, but not where I saw it.

He spent most of his time proselytizing in various community threads. Far as I could tell.

The SM name is banned but he'll be able to post under his new name in a month.

Do you know his new name?

That seems kinda pointless though. I mean, he couldn't wait a week and now has to start all over again?

It happens quite often....

So, SM is impervious to bans?

From what I gathered is if he just waited until his inital temp ban was finished he could have come back as normal but he decided to try to sneak in so they banned his original and made him start over with the new one a month later. He tries it again and he might get booted for realzies!
