The Dark Knight Rises Arkyum Asylum Movie

that would never work, because the batman movies are realistic. arkham asylum is just a regular building that is used as a lock-up facility, its not like in the game where it is its own island with different buildings and underground passageways. think of how boring it would be to see the movie from the inside of a regular jail?

Yeah. Real boring.

I think a Nolan-directed movie taking place primarily within Arkham would be extremely interesting--if not for the fact that there is simply no rogues gallery to occupy it. For starters, many of Arkham's traditional inmates are not appropriate for the current film universe. Equally important, though, is that to include those villains that do make sense in this world--like the Riddler--it would have to be implied that all these new super criminals rose up and were captured by Batman since TDK. I think that would be problematic; it would feel like the film had skipped over a multitude of important stories in order to set up this premise that Arkham is full of Batman villains.

Accordingly, I think the only way for an Arkham Asylum film to work is as the first film in a new iteration of the franchise--one that starts not at the beginning of Batman's career, but at it's peak, and uses the most pure, recognizable versions of the characters so that the audience can walk into the film without asking "When did Batman meet the Riddler and Poison Ivy?" and so on.

As an aside: with regards to Nolan's Arkham facility not being big enough or interesting enough for an entire film, well, that wouldn't be the case if "Gotham Knights" is considered in-continuity, since the Narrows island is shown as having become one massive extension of Arkham, housing all those whose minds were lost in the fear toxin incident.

i don't know whether this has been mentioned before, but with all the positive buzz about the new batman game (for it is truly awsome), does anyone think that this will make nolan take notice and give him some inspiration for the next movie?

I almost think the opposite. Because Arkham Asylum was so great and so popular, I think it has pretty much filled the market for Arkham-based Batman stories. As a result, I expect Nolan to go in a different direction.

Burton would of.

Didnt Burton once say that Arkham Asylum Serious House was used as inspiration for Batman Returns?

BAA is a different take on the character, I don't think Nolan would be influenced by a game instead He'll look at graphical novels and comics.

I think he is the kind of director who will allow himself to be influenced by everything, which is probably the right approach to have. At the same time, he will have to be careful to avoid imitating any single source too closely.

Quick Question: Wasn't the game based on the graphic novel Arkham Asylum? I mean...it seems fairly similar in the plot. I haven't read it yet, but I heard that was the basis for the game.

Too bad Nolan's Arkham Asylum looks nothing like the Arkham Asylum in the game.

The game is hardly like the GN.

The graphic novel is about the inmates escaping and they want Batman in for some reason. But its ?????????? who is the real badguy as he is obsessed with Amadeus Arkham, like Warden Sharp.

If youre fainthearted and easily disturbed. DO NOT READ IT. The art and writing was powerful though.
