I always assume they were related to because Desmond was able to live through both of them. If Altair isn't related to Ezio that is crazy because Altair armor is family hairloom that Giovanni wore then passed it down to Ezio. -

If they aren't related, then why did Ezio inherit his armor in AC2? I thought the armor was there because Altair was his ancestor.
He didn't inherit it. He found the seals to open the vault. Any assassin could have done it.

Giovanni didn't wear it. The Armor of Altair was locked up in the sanctuary. Ezio was most likely the first to wear it since Altair did.

Oh okay then, I thought he mentioned that Altair was his great great grandfather. It's a pretty big coincidence though.
I read somewhere last night that the time difference was about 300 years between Altair and Ezio, so Altair would be his great great great great great great great great grandfather, or something like that.

I think believing that Ezio and Altair are related by blood is easier to assume/believe, but I think one of the reasons for confusion is because people forget that the only reason they went to Ezio was because of the common ancestry between Desmond and Subject 16. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Subject 16 was also able to relive Altair's life.

If you only play this series for the historical setting, then you should just prepare to be disappointed. This is a sci-fi series, first and foremost, in the same way that the Matrix was always a sc-fi movie before it was a martial arts or kung fu film.

Regarding Desmonds father, we're finding out more about his family and background in Revelations.

Also, fun fact, but did you guys know that Ezio and Altair aren't actually related? They're both ancestors of Desmond, but on different sides of the family apparently. That makes me more interested to know how Ezio forms a link with Altair in Revelations.
Yeah... you just made that up. That was never confirmed. What we know is that Darim (Altair's son) was in France, Spain and England for a short period of time (about two years) and later returned to Masyaf - at which point Niccolo Polo embarked for Venice with the Codex Pages (which was then intercepted by a group of Templar hired pirates). Apparently, Marco Polo (Niccolo's son) was working as the Patron of Domenico Auditore's father (interesting note that Niccolo Polo was the Patron of both old-aged Altair and Darim), and it wasn't until Dante Alighieri (author of Inferno) told Domenico that his father was an Assassin did Domenico even know of his true heritage. It was then that Domenico left to establish the Auditore family in Florence and then built the Villa around the time of Dante's passing.

It never says who Domenico's father was or even who his grandfather was - my guess is that Darim was Domenico's grandfather, and just as Niccolo was Darim's Patron, his son could have had Marco as a Patron (making him Domenico's father).

We don't know what Darim did while in Europe, so it is very likely that he had a child there, or even that a child of Darim could have accompanied Marco Polo to Venice where he could have had Domenico Auditore - the Great-Great-Grandfather of Ezio Auditore - leaving about six generations between Altair and Ezio.

EDIT: Domenico's grandfather could also have been Sef's grandson (as he had two daughters whose fates were unknown, other than them leaving far away from Masyaf and Alamut - implied that they went to Europe).

Even of these two theories is just as plausible as Darim DID go to Europe but we don't know if he had children, and Sef DID have children, but we don't know where they went.

The writer of Assassin's Creed: Revelations has said Ezio and Altair are not related. Wolvie didn't make it up.

Am I the only Assassin's Creed fan in the universe who thinks there WILL be an ancestor in 3? I think Desmond will definitely be doing stuff in the real world (obviously) and have a bigger part, but I highly doubt they'll throw out the main plot device of the entire series. The games are about history. Not to mention at the end of Brotherhood
Shaun pretty much spelled it out that the French Revolution
is next. Not only that, but a game with only Desmond wouldn't make sense. It's not physically possible for the same game play style to work in a modern day city. You can't climb a skyscraper using parkour. Buildings are generally a lot more spaced out nowadays as well.

I imagine Desmond's part in 3 will be him visiting Temples, like Secret Locations in previous games. Unless he turns out to be Batman or something.

Shaun saying French Revolution is next: He said the Masonic Eye and the Phrygian Cap meet only in one place. Look up The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.

I'm all for the French Revolution, would be splendid.

Not to mention it's only a decade apart from the American Revolution. It could be both. Which would be amazing.

Eh, the American Revolution wouldn't be a good setting structure-wise. It would be a lot of open fields with short buildings, nothing high to climb or many buildings to jump from roof to roof.

That is true. Maybe it could be like what the Seige of Viana was in Brotherhood.

Nice catch.

We've been told that the story of Assassin's Creed is the story of how Desmond becomes the ultimate assassin they wouldn't waste the big finale on someone other than Desmond, I do however believe there will be another game with the ancestor you mentioned and will be half and half, like Brotherhood.

In other news a film called Assassin's Creed: Embers will be released.

Cant it be that it wont have the same gameplay style? Desmond's solo story when they get to it will most like switch things up bc like you allude to, they would have to. The stealth and fighting mechanics would remain. There's also the platforming within catacombs and interior areas that would remain. The only thing I see having to be worked on is being in an open world city as I dont see that working quite the same. They may very well introduced a brand new game mechanic specific to Desmond that will change things up in an innovative way for the series. Cant tell you what that could be, but I dont think its out of the realm of possibilities

Just saw the trailer for Revelations, and wonder how they got together? I remember hearing Mario in AC2 talking about Al'Tair living some ages ago, and Leonardo saying the hidden blade technology being ancient
How do Al'Tair & Ezio meet?

They've never met. The trailer was just meant to symbolize how Altair once stood in the same spot that Ezio went to as he looks for answers.

That's what I was saying; I think Desmond's modern day story will be limited to Temples/Catacombs/Abstergo building/Whatever you want to call it. I really don't think they'll make a wholly different game. And I really don't think they'll get rid of the main plot device (i.e. The Animus). In the comics, they even say that the Assassins don't even really assassinate that much anymore, they do things like rig elections and "change the system from within". In Revelations, we experience Desmond's past, but it won't be in an open-world setting, mark my words. Not in an open-world city, at least. The entire point of the series is history+conspiracy. There will always be an ancestor. They even said there would be an ancestor in 3.

EDIT: Half of this was responding to Llama, as well. Yes, I think it'll be approx half and half for 3, Desmond and French guy. Desmond will more than likely save the world, but TWCB even said that to save the world they have to find the Temples. So he'll be focused on getting to them, not running around a city. But a game with ONLY Desmond will never happen.

I want a game with Desmond or another assassin in the post industrial revolution era. I want to use sniper rifles , c4, new gadgets to climb, and etc, etc. I really want an assasin during the 1960 in America. During that time there was assinations, conspiracies, cover ups, and a cold war.
