Well I knew it was ignorant because as I said, I know very little about the specifics of Native American culture other than what I've seen in films and books, but was it really offensive?

It might have been to people who were looking to be offended about something.

I'll make up for it by writing more awesome Assassins Creed plot ideas....

Lol, not at all man, but some moron will find that offensive I'm sure. I was just joking.

Well no, I don't think that's how the ancestry would have to work. Since Altair was one I think his father's side and Ezio was on his mothers side, this guy wouldn't have both of those backgrounds.

Pfft, The American war for Independence? Looks like I'm not playing Assassin's Creed 3 then! Seriously, what a boring idea. You just know it's going to be about some guy with a barrel chest shouting "FOR FREEDOMZ!!!!" while slaying a greasy caricature of a British citizen.

Oh well, the series jumped the trucks with Revelations anyway.

What an astoundingly ignorant thing to say about an Assassin's Creed game. AC has *always* been deep and multi-faceted, and has never played favorites or taken the easy way out in historical depictions. There's absolutely nothing that would indicate this will turn into an "AMERICA **** YEAH" game. In fact, it's likely to piss off and/or enlighten a great number of American patriots who've always believed in the mythical version of American history as opposed to the real version.

Anyway, back to the new assassin's ancestry: a mixed breed would be very common in the 1700s...."half-breed" didn't carry the stigma of race that later generations assigned. It wasn't uncommon at all for eastern tribes to intermarry with whites, particularly among the Iroquois and Cherokee. Quite a number of mixed-bloods became quite successful, wealthy, powerful and famous, and traveled freely between the "civilized" white world and the "savage" Indian world. I'm 99% certain that our assassin will be just such a figure.

Whats the "real" version?

If anything, this game will be a fantastical(key word there) re-telling of the American Revolution. They aren't going to bring any more "facts" to the table than whats already been established. They will craft their story to fit the needs of the franchise.

Ubisoft has always meticulously researched actual history and historical figures....and that's true not just of the games, but even of the encyclopedias and other esoterica they put out in conjunction. No reason to believe they'll start doing any different for AC3, which means that a lot of cherished myths and lies of American "history" will shockingly be revealed to be false.

This game, in which you play an assassin within the Ubisoft matrix, will lead the way as books, schooling and scholars have not been able to do.
It should really be called " Assassins Creed: Revelation" hu - hu - hu....

The series is historical fiction. It's based on real facts but they've taken creative liberties with it. To imply this will be closer to the "real" version is pretty comical.

Last time i checked Ubisoft was a games developer, not a group of investigative historians. They aren't going to shed light on anything, especially some false "myths and lies" of American history. They'll create "history", in other words, they're going to make up whatever it is they need to, in order create a better experience for the user. You aren't about to come out of ACIII with any more true insight to the American revolution than you were if you opened a 5th grade history book.

So apparently we're getting a trailer on Monday. I hope its more than a simple teaser and more like the one we got for Revelation, which was awesome.

That'd be great.

And would make me feel confident about them hitting the October release date.

Even though, to my knowledge, Ubisoft seems to have nailed the release date for Assassin's Creed pretty much since 2.

Well I'm not American and I love the idea of it. In fact that's probably why I love it more, it's still exploring history for a significant country.

I think the Red Coats will be enemies, sure, but I don't think it will be as cut and dry as 'Americans = Good and British = Bad'. I could see there being Templars in US Government too, orchestrating things in co-ordination with the British, sort of like how Cesare Borgia involved the French in Brotherhood and how in AC 1 there were Templars on more than one side of the Crusades conflict.

Exactly.

I would be amazed if it's as black and white as, America = Nation of Assassins and British = Nation of Templars. It will probably be, like before, a mixed bag. With Templars and Assassin's having infiltrated positions and ranks on both sides. It's always been set up as a constant spy game between the Assassin's and the Templars.

I think it will be the end of Desmonds story, but no way this is the final AC title. History is FILLED with areas they could explore.

I'd be pretty disappointed if it was the end of his story.

Just seems like he ought to get atleast one game to give his story it's due.

Look familiar?

Also, Ben Franklin can maybe serve a similar role Da Vinci did for Ezio, since he's also a man of invention.

That'd be ****ing awesome.

I feel bad for this character. He has a HELL of a lot to live up to, coming after 3 games of Ezio. I wonder how they'll make him a worthy successor.

True.

But, he's off to a great start. The character design is flawless. He's clearly and Assassin, and yet clearly designed with American Revolutionary clothing and yet clearly has Native American roots with other design aspects. The messaging with his design was well thought out, and well executed.

About the obvious similarities between the Freemason symbol and the Assassins': here's the thing.....in terms of actual philosophy, Freemasonry is actually a lot more akin to the Templars than the Assassins. So even though the *symbol* looks Assassin, what if the Freemason design actually indicates the Templars taking over the Assassins....? A sort of great-big "F.U." to the Assassins from the Templars....

I remember Vidic, in the first game, telling Desmond that the Templars had been able to control the flow of information through education. Claiming that they had altered history through altering the teaching of it by creating they're own narrative by, basically, controlling what history was written.

So, yeah. This could be, in the fiction of Assassin's Creed, be an instance where The Templars could have altered the history books or something.

There is also the possibility that part of the game could be set in London.

They've given themselves an out, storytelling wise, to change everything. They could show any historical figure...doing pretty much anything...and claim, within the fiction of the AC universe, that we didn't know that because the Templars had changed the history books.

They've got a TON of creative freedom in terms of what can be changed to suit the story by outright telling us, "everything we thought we knew is a lie".

So...yeah.

Info from the new character Facebook Fan page

He goes by the name of Connor but his native name is Ratohnhaké:ton

He is half English, half Native American, and is described as more of a hunter/ predatory Assassin than the likes of Ezio or Altair. The American Revolution setting means that the supporting cast includes the likes of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee.

I would say this is authentic two since he also posted those screenshots and it's run by the same person who leaked all the Ezio stuff for Revelations and Brotherhood.

Also, climbing trees? Just...just perfect. I mean, it seems so simple... Here we were worrying there being no buildings but think about it... Since when did acrobatics and climbing have to be limited to architectural structures... Stalking guys through forests, leaping from tree branches, that would be freakin awesome in it's own rights.

Not to mention how awesome all those screenshots look.

My only nitpick so far is I wish his coat was evenly lined down the bottom. It looks to similar to the classic Assassin robes... I think if it was even, like a coat should be, it would still look awesome but more period authentic.

Also, BONUS
"Here is a basic rundown of the new features in the upcoming GameInformer article, to be released next week:

-The new Assassin is the son of a Native American woman and a British soldier. His calls himself Connor, but his birth name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Born into the Mohawk, he eventually crosses paths with the Assassins in his search for righteousness.

-Connor is quiet and stoic, letting actions speak for words rather than conversing with others. In contrast to Ezio, Connor is a freedom fighter who acts in the name of justice rather than on personal revenge.

-The game is set between 1753 and 1783, meaning we will be playing a good chunk of Connor's life, about the timeframe of Assassin's reed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood combined.

-Settings will include Boston, New York and a large countryside. The countryside will be the setting of about 1/3 of the game, and will be the location of many events during the game. The countryside will be about 1.5 times as big as Rome in Brotherhood.

-The protagonist will fight on the American side, with primary allies George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee. However, this does not mean that the Americans are the good guys and the British are the bad guys. Templars are everywhere…

-There will be seasons in the game, meaning that the sun will shine during summer and the landscape will be covered in snow during winter.
-Fighting and stealth will be completely re-innovated, with Connor being compared to a “predator”. The player will be able to climb trees and other natural elements, and dual-wielding weapons such as a dagger and a mohawk is now also an option.

-Animals will be present in the woods, like deer and bears. The player will be able to kill them and pelt their skins, to sell them later with the reformed economic system of the game.

-There will be puzzles similar to The Truth, only they will not be given by Subject 16.

-Desmond will go into the new Animus 3.0 and will find himself going into “significant events”.

-100% sync in memories returns, though this time you will be rewarded when you complete memories to 100%. Checkpoints will also be introduced to mission replay, meaning you don’t have to replay an entire mission to get that 100% sync.

-The Brotherhood, or Assassins Guild, will return in some form, albeit differently than we have seen before.

-There will be no more Mercenaries, Thieves, Courtesans, Romani or other factions, but there will be a replacement for them.

-Den Defense will not return. "

Sounds brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Also, how the hell do you pronounce his birth name?????

Well ok so there goes the London idea. Anyway there should be no shortage of **** to climb on.

Ratohnhaké:ton (Ra-doon-ha-gay-doon)

Yeah, this looks amazing. I'm getting that crazy fluttery feeling you get when an amazing games just comes out of nowhere. I am so ridiculous excited, I can't wait to see some gameplay footage.

It's funny how just from photos and a game box art, everything just seems so perfect. The setting seems a perfect match for the fiction, the look of the character, the game world, even the weapon choices. It just seems right. Can't wait for more.
