August 2007 Sales Charts & Market Share Report

Well she was confirmed gay pretty much when she was first introduced (ok well under a year into her introduction) by the writter who created her, so I have no problem with that.

But you are right that they are pushing things a bit far, suddenly she's this tightly night ball of self doubts and mushy bad lesbian litterature. She just seems a bit melodramatic, especially compared to how she was in Captain marvel and even the first event.

Aside from that I'm very enthusiastic about her being the new Quasar, or rather getting any face time at all, but at the same time the execution needs tweaking. Not to say I haven't enjoyed reading the mini, it just could be better.

Spider-woman the Origin debuted @ #24 with about 64,000 sold and immediately dropped 20,000 - 25000 issues for the duration of the mini averaging around 40,000 sold and hovering around the #40 - #50 range....

...oh and the art was plain fugly!!

Thanks for the info. To add, it launched at the end of Dec. 2005 and finished in early '06 before CW; as time has marched on, comic sales are improving. These days, sales of 40k would probably lead a comic outside the Top 50. But I could be off. Anyway, thanks for the info; it isn't as steep a drop as IIF, but still far from a breakout hit. Like I said, it is curious that while NA itself is the #1 selling ongoing title, it doesn't seem able to launch spin-off's that sell even half as good.

I always liked Julia more than Jessica. She was barely even a presence in Omega Flight, though.

I'm torn between them. Admittedly, my main exposure to Julia Carpenter was the IRON MAN cartoon where you have your avatar from. Which isn't a bad source for a kid, honestly. I sometimes think it is a shame that most fans don't realize that "black spider" design was hers first, not Spider-Man's (he based his black suit on her costume on Battleworld).

But Drew is the original Spider-Woman, which is always cool. The costume is very iconic (and can't EVER be confused with her male counterpart), at least before she started doing pole-dance like jumps post New Avengers on covers. Mattie Frank is...just sort of there, although I haven't minded her in THE LONERS. Enough Spider-Women to go around. :p

Good. That **** deserved to sell poorly. Bring back my old school, NYC superheroics of the 70's Spider-Woman and call it a day.

I read some of those via reprints, they were fun.

Wow! Marvel has 9 out of the top 10 books and 19 out of the top 30. Way to go Marvel!

I'm trying to enjoy Annihilation: Conquest but it's just not as good as it's predecessor. It's good, but just not AS good. And honestly...................I'm just not feeling the new Quasar. :( Love the StarLord :) but not Quasar :(. They should just bring back Wendall, cuase this book just ain't right.

I was never a huge fan of the original Quasar so I can't say I was TOO miffed that he died. CONQUEST isn't as good as the original, but then again, the original ANNIHILATION was a thrilling new thing; this is a sequal so there are expectations and comparisons. Plus, Giffen ran the core show last time around and this time it is Abnett & Lanning. Not that they have been bad, mind you. But Giffen is Giffen.

The new Quasar is cool. She'd be better if it wasn't for the lame pseudo Shakespearean era lesbo writting style going on. The whole "my love" thing between Heather and Phyla is getting seriously old, real girls don't talk like that, not to mention lesbans, and Phyla was always very frank since pretty much always with the exception of now.

I can understand where you are coming from, but to be frank, lesbians are something that some writers seem to grapple with. They either come off "Shakespearean", especially in sci-fi yarns, or they're S & M ****s. Few writers, or should I say better calliber writers, are able to find that right balence. I haven't minded Quasar & Moondragon too much. I may not read an ongoing, but I've been enjoying the mini.

I agree about the overly lovey-dovey crap between Phyla and Moondragon. That's really the main thing that's felt off in AC: Quasar to me. Phyla was never like that and Moondragon was even less like that. In Captain Marvel, Phyla was a tough, no-nonsense hardass who pretty much hated her brother for squandering his gifts and their father's legacy, and Moondragon was a stoic, crabby b****. Here they feel like a trashy romance couple. It's kind of gross.

A smaller complaint I have is that I was looking forward to Phyla taking on the Quasar powers and kicking ass with them. She was more effective with the Captain Marvel powers than Genis was; it was only Genis' insanity and unpredictability that gave him an edge over her. But in Conquest, she's immediately handicapped by the quantum bands' power drain, not to mention the fact that she hasn't even used any of the bands' energy powers yet. She's just making constructs, which makes me think the creators for the mini-series took Quasar's basic description as "Marvel's Green Lantern" a bit too literally.

[Not Jake]No, Corp. It's not trashy. People fall over each other to express love ALL the time in the heat of battle. It's cute.[/Not Jake]

I have to go a wedding later and I'm not looking forward to it. You all must feel my wrath.

It's a Catholic wedding, so that means it's about 4 hours too long.

Stand up, sit down, stand up, kneel, stand up, kneel, sit down...:cmad:

I attended a Catholic Elementary School/ High School, believe me I know all about that crap.

It sucks, man. Aside from the fact that the Catholic church as an institution is a complete sham, their rules and practices and me just do not get along. It's like having rules for rules sake. There's no point to them other then controlling the believers and keeping them busy. I don't know...Christianity is one thing, but the Catholic church seems to take spirituality out of everything.

When I was a little kid, I spent my first few years in public school during which time I believed in God. At about the age of 10 I transferred over to a Catholic elementary school. Then after a year or two I no longer believed in God.

Your story is so much like the stories of millions of American children. :(

The moral of the story: Work for the Catholic church if you want to stop going.

They're their own worst enemy.

You know, that actually really does sound like a good description for a Catholic...

You guys can stay on topic for a full page can you?

Becuase if I leave for one day, I come back and 3 pages are like............this. I don't care, just saying. :o
