Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

Cameron Offers Brief "Avatar 2" Update

Filmmaker James Cameron recently provided on a small update on the status of the trilogy of "Avatar" sequels in the works, a back-to-back production which is tipped to begin filming this year.
Speaking with Indiewire, Cameron says the details of the sequel are being kept under wraps and under tight security in the wake of the success of the first film. He also offers a quick status update:
"We do performance capture work. You have to think of it more like an animated film, so it's not really shooting per se. It's a lot of performance capture work, so yeah, we're getting into that... It's top secret. Remember The Manhattan Project, did they talk about that."
"Avatar 2" isn't slated to hit cinemas until at least early 2018.

Fox ended its Thursday CinemaCon presentation with a surprise guest: James Cameron.

He announced that there will be four Avatar sequels.

"We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process," he said. He had previously planned for three sequels.

Cameron said as he was planning the three sequels, he found it limiting. "We began to bump up against the limitations for our art form," he said, explaining that he decided he would need more sequels to tell the whole story.

He said each of the four sequels will be able to stand alone, but will together create a saga. His goal is to release Avatar 2 at Christmas 2018, and then one each year after that.

Does anyone still even cares about Avatar. Why does Fox have so much faith in this? At least release one and see if people are still interested in big numbers. It has been ages since the last one.

Why not five sequels?

Why not be the Oprah of sequels.

And you get a sequel and you get a a sequel and you get a sequel and you get a sequel and you get a sequel!

I think Fox thinks this is their new Star Wars since they gave it up to Disney. They want that groundbreaking sci-fi saga.

The problem is... Star Wars is back now. You can't be the new Star Wars when you're competing with Star Wars in the same year.

Nope.

I dont hear anyone quoting it, none of the stars are doing much in Hollywood save for Saldana, I don't see many dress like a Na'vi for Halloween. This did not have enough impact to warrant 4 sequels. Hell I think they're waiting too long for the first sequel.

And it's strange to say that about a movie that made 2 bill, although there are reasons to why it made 2 billion (only major 3D release) but I dont think anyone really cares about this to warrant that many sequels

I can't even remember a characters name without looking it up.

Can't wait to take my grandkids to see Avatar 5 in 2050. I'm sure James Cameron will take us all to the astral plane to be able to see it.

Lol, I don't remember anything from this either. I remember blue cat looking characters, people talking about 3D which I believe was it's selling point and people saying the story was a rip off of Pocahontas. Don't even remember name of the actor.

The hubris of planning four sequels when the first plot was wafer thin at best and they were utterly incapable of getting Avatar 2 out in time to capitalise on the hype the first one had.

Cameron is being roasted on Twitter over this.

This just seems like such a bad decision

So next time we hear anything about these, he'll be saying five sequels, right? :o

When's the last time you could waltz into a Target and buy yourself a Jake Sully action figure?

For a film that is the highest grossing film of all-time, it has had almost zero cultural impact worldwide. The film doesn't deserve a sequel, let alone four of them, let alone this long after what little hype it had fizzled and died.

It's taken nearly a decade to get the second film, and he expects us to believe we'll get four films in a span of five years? Umm..... sure.

Well yeah because all the scripts were written at the same time and he plans to shoot all four back to back. :funny:

James Cameron honestly should have taken the good will he received from Avatar and made at least two other films. The man is a master of groundbreaking technology. He needs to stop wasting his years over some bulls***. Make the Battle Angel Alita like you wanted to. Hell, I'll take another damn Terminator film. Do something.

So I see the wolves were let out right on que, as if they have been patiently waiting for the next Avatar news to shred.

4 movies does sound excessive. But I'll wait until I actually, you know, see one before I start crying about all four of them.
