Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

Man even I as a huge Cameron fan didn't think this would be doing that well.

I thought it would do good at maybe 1.5 mil globally. Now what I am about to say is a very small observation but hear me out. I have been to Disney world 3 times since 2018 and went again this past year. Every-time we went to animal kingdom and visited the pandora section the lines for both rides were always hovering around 2-3 hours and the store as well as the cafe were packed. Clearly when I saw that I thought well maybe there is still an underlying hunger for this world and so far that is clear now.

Social media is whining about Cameron “stealing” from the other avatar because rumors are he will be using “fire Na’vi” in the third movie.

Is this how the internet is gonna cope after the “no cultural impact” well dried out? :funny:

Cameron the dirty thief.

I mean, Cameron's always been a dirty thief
but what's that Picasso quote "Good artists copy, great ones steal" or something to that effect?

Much as I don't care for these movies, the dude apparently knows how to remix in a way that appeals to casual audiences

When my sister and I went in 2019, we asked the people next to us in the line for Flight of Passage if they'd ever seen the movie and they said no.

I'd bet that 30-40% of the people who go to Pandora have never seen the movie. It's possible to enjoy the area even if you're not the slightest bit familiar with the films. I bet some people there don't even know it's based on a movie and think it's just some fantasy land Disney put together. That might change now that Way of Water is out.

That really is insane how much money Disney has made between this franchise, Star Wars, Marvel etc.

shouldn't Avengers be rolled into marvel cinematic universe?
It's an interesting list. But I wondered the same thing. Are the Avengers stats separate from the rest of the MCU? Or is double counting going on? Likewise for Batman (17 movies?) and the DCEU.

$38.5 billion from just the MCU and Star Wars alone, dude. That's enough to buy a country. Although the Star Wars movies made about $4 billion before Disney acquired them, same with the MCU movies that came out before Thor 2 which I think was when Disney fully took over distribution but still, that's an insane amount of cheddar.

It is, but it also listed separately. Likewise the Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland are counted into both MCU and Spider-Man.

that makes sense and also Im surprised that Xmen has made that much looking back. My brain knows logan, deadpool and days of future past were mega hits but the other films I never really thought made that much. Very interesting list and makes you wonder where the film industry would be if Marvel hadnt exploded

Soon to enter top 15 franchises with just two movies:

It's going to be right up there after this bunch of films up to the 5th one comes out. Only the MCU is definitively out of reach and still making a ton every year for the foreseeable future.

It's really strange what Wikipedia did here. They list 12 Spider-Man movies when there are really only 9. They include Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame just because Spidey is in them even though they're not "Spider-Man" movies. Same deal with Batman being in Justice League and Suicide Squad I'm assuming since they're showing 17 movies for him. By that logic shouldn't Iron Man, Cap and Thor be on there too?

I suspect the editors, like a lot of people in the larger movie commentariot, don't yet have a solid handle on how to deal with these kind of meta-franchises. "Is a movie part of Series A or Series B?" used to be a really really simple question with simple binary answers. Now, its not, because the characters can jump around between multiple different series'.

Whatever method they choose they need to be consistent.
