Do you think any of the upcoming Netflix seasons will mention the event of people turning to dust? Like say a character that had a contract for an earlier season but doesn't return for a new one.

If they get the gauntlet to reverse time so it never happened, people might never remember what took place.

In the main story of the movie, there is a lot of focus on the question of trading a life for a life (or other lives).

So, the idea of sacrifice, I guess, though I don't recall that term being used in the film.

Cap actually states that at one point. "We don't trade a life for a life," I think, or something close to that. And then Vision calls back to it when he stays to help Cap.

Other examples that I can think of:
-The two Star Lord scenes, mentioned above.
-Doctor Strange's moral compass, and his ultimate decision to trade the stone for Tony's life.
-The scene with Vision and Wanda, which ends with the final decision to destroy the stone. (There is actually an exchange here between Wanda and Thanos that is a little like his earlier exchange with Starlord, basically a suggestion that he relates to her decision, which Wanda denies.)

There might be more examples. All of those scenes and choices relate to the central scene of the movie, which is Thanos' decision to sacrifice Gamora to obtain the soul stone.

It's something that I will be keeping an eye on, when I see it again. I don't really have a coherent interpretation to offer yet, but this is definitely one of the core themes of the movie.

I’ve been thinking about all of this and I love reading post like this, especially after some posters claim that there is nothing to think about or “chew” on after the movie.

It's a very well written movie with lots of set ups and pay offs.

"Really? Tears?" "They are not for him."

There is some DAMNED great writing in this movie.

Had a few days to mull over the film more since I saw it, and whilst I'm definitely going to go for a rewatch this week, my initial reaction hasn't changed. Simply fantastic.

Highlights for me were :

Thor.
In the comics he's hugely powerful, in the movies he's been depowered somewhat. Thor : Ragnarok took big strides in addressing that, and Infinity War takes full-on leaps. Thor enduring the power of a star, entering the battle in Wakanda and decimating multiple enemies that the other Avengers/Wakandans are struggling with, Thor breaching Thanos' defences and injuring him with Stormbreaker - all great feats of power which finally show the God of Thunder in his true light.

Thanos.
One of my friends isn't really into superhero films and when talking about this prior to seeing it, I had to describe MCU Thanos to him - "Purple, 8-9ft tall, CGi" was how I put it. He assumed it would be a silly representation of the character. In reality, Thanos is up there as one of THE great cinematic villains. They absolutely nailed him; his abundant screentime, fantastic CGi, huge presence, brutality, Brolin's performance, the emotional stakes and his motivations for doing what he's doing were all perfect. I wouldn't say I sympathised with him, but I definitely had an understanding of the reasoning behind his plan - it was much more fleshed out than the typical "evil bad guy wants to destroy the universe" - and could admire his dedication to completing it.

Hulk
Now this is a strange one, but I actually loved what they did with Hulk in this film, despite some of the negative reactions in the Hulk thread. Would I have liked some more Hulk screentime? Of course, if you consider this film to be an isolated one; but we know Avengers 4 is coming, and we know from Ruffalo interviews that there is an Arc for Hulk. What I found interesting here was that this is the first time MCU Hulk has expressed anything approaching fear. Banner was trying to coax him out on numerous occasions, but he wouldn't play - and we have to assume that is down to the brutal beating Thanos gives him in the film's opening.

Of course, this isn't the first time that MCU Hulk has had tough competition. He didn't have it easy with Abomination, Hulkbuster managed to knock him out (albeit it was a very close affair and Hulk was disorientated when it happened) and Thor and him were pretty even in combat in both Avengers and Thor : Ragnarok. However, I would say this is the first time on screen that Hulk was totally outmatched; after his initial attack, which Thanos seemed to let him away with, Thanos turned on him and was faster, stronger and more skilled.

We know that more of Banner's human personality has been seeping into Hulk over the last few films; hence why his speech is now improved, why Banner can force-change when he wants, and why Banner can now 'direct' him to a certain extent, rather than just being along for the ride. I suspect however that some human emotions like fear are also seeping into his personality and this will be explored later. Banner may have to make a decision as to whether to let Hulk be Hulk, or continue to try and force his influence.

The Interplay
It was a real treat seeing some of these characters interact for the first time. The exchanges between Stark and Quill were hilarious. I also loved the Stark/Strange dialogue; they're very similar characters in some ways - similar age, highly skilled in their fields, egotistical, goatees, prone to smart quips - and it was a joy to watch the two Sherlocks play off each other.

Thor and Rocket's dialogue was also very touching, and really gave Hemsworth a chance to stretch his acting chops. You couldn't help but have sympathy for Thor after all the losses he's endured over the last few films and this one.

......

There's lots more that impressed me; the action scenes, the effects, the score, the pacing, and so on. It all combined to make for an incredible cinematic experience.

However, the single biggest thing I take from Avengers : Infinity War was simply how epic it was.

Both in scope - 10yrs, 18 films, 30+ characters, hundreds of millions of $$, all dedicated to building characters/backstories and acting as small stepping stones to this ensemble piece - and in execution - actually putting all that together in a visually stunning film, and making it work with a storyline that's worthy of it all. Having characters perform massive feats of power such as withstanding the power of a sun, and slamming a moon down onto a planet. Creating visually stunning locations and bringing in a villain who doesn't just want to change a world, or worlds - but the entire universe.

To not only manage that, but to manage it with such a great film is a huge achievement.

I've watched many films over the years and only a few (such as the original Star Wars and Lord of the Rings films for example) had that epic cinematic feel about them of watching something which you wouldn't see repeated again, with characters who would become ingrained in popular culture and who mass audiences would actually care about. I hoped Justice League would have it but as production went on and we approached release, it became apparent it wouldn't. Avengers : Infinity War however .......... has it in spades. It's going to be a long wait for Part 4.

It felt like a clue when Thanos told Stark not only that he knew him but that Stark had been cursed with some sort of knowledge. Don't know why but that really stuck out to me.

A little part of me really wished that Thanos was talking about Reed and he had encountered F4 before and now they're gone missing like captain marvel :hehe:

:) To be fair, I feel some of the best one liners or brief dialogues always happen in massive 4 quadrant entertainment movies coz they have to squeeze in these gems in between all the fun and action and adventure. MCU is chock full of it too and this movie especially is amazingly endearing in that regard.

One great thing I noticed anout IW: not that much fighting. OK, we got the final battle but there was never a moment when you start to think "too many of fights, it is too long". The Wakanda battle is much better than AoU final fight also because it matters. You know it is a final stand and you know that. You know that the enemies are stronger than you and your task is just to keep fighting...

If the Russo brothers or Kevin Feige are among those who have disintegrated, how will they complete the next movie? No Avengers 4 possibly.

I can't believe no one has asked the important question!?!?!

Who's goatee was better?
I honestly preferred Dr. Strange's in this film... But 'Facial Hair' was easily won by CA. Starlord's vintage 'stache has an honourable mention.

No one has asked either whether these goatees will be digitally erased in post production for the next movie like Henry Cavill's moustache.

Starlord's stache is more dude stache than Man-stache (Drax would say)

Stark and Strange both sport pretty good facial hair almost on equal par I would say.

There are more characters in this film with facial hair than in any other Marvel movie:

1. Tony Stark
2. Dr Strange
3. Captain America
4. Thor
5. Starlord
6. Rocket
7. Black Panther

Anyone else?

The rabbit doesn't count.
Heimdall counts, we also have Falcon, the bus driver.

And I hate you for making me count.

Wonder if we'll see Thanos with a beard in Avengers 4. :funny:

He clearly had some stubble in the Movie. And now that he's accomplished his goal and is sitting back, he could let his beard grow.

In "The Incredible Hulk Returns" TV movie, Bill Bixby's Banner had a beard. But when he turned into the Hulk it magically disappeared. I wonder if we'll get something similar for A4.

Loved Peter Dinklage's character in Infinity War...wonder if we will see him again in Avengers 4

Probably too much of a 4th wall break, if they jokingly acknowledge their previous acting roles.

True, his role was a nice twist regarding his character's stature.

And how his hands were like stuck in fists of one of the metals he uses was a sign of Thanos being cunning but then he should've killed him not left him alive to assist anyone else.

Dinklage had a beard too didn't he?
