Infinity War Avengers: Infinity War SPOILER User Review Thread - Part 2

There is no way they filmed the Asgardians vs. Black Order battle. They spent nearly $300 million -- they didn't film entire battle sequences and then dump them, The Russos wanted that cold opening. They didn't decide on it in the editing phase.

300m? I heard the two movies cost a billion.

Yes there is a great version in my imagination right now. Features a lot more Hulk and some powered up Black Order members too! ;)

My head movie rocks, too! Would totally make 3 bil.

Thor's words in A1: "I thought you dead". Then... He thought he was dead again in TDW only for THAT to be untrue again.

It's something the audience would expect, that Loki would "trick" his way out of so Thanos himself makes it clear.

As for the rest of the MCU, there are more than enough examples in the films of them using this.

TFA: Bucky dies only to come back in TWS.

TWS: Fury is shown dead on the hospital table only to return by the last act.

IM3: Pepper is engulfed in flames and Tony thinks she's bought it only for her to come back.

And as you mentioned Phil dies and gets better.

This isn't an observation pulled out of thin air.

So far in the MCU I think the only good-guy character to die, and stay dead, is Pietro Maximoff. Which sucks, because I liked Pietro. It bugged me that Wanda never mentioned him at all in CA:CW. She doesn't even have a picture of him in her apartment!

Which honestly doesn't surprise me. The question is, when would they have had the time to take a picture? They lost everything when their home was destroyed, they got taken in and were experimented on by Hydra, then worked for Ultron.

There are actually childhood photos of her and Pietro on her desk/wall when Steve comes to talk to her (set designer confirmed this, if I remember correctly).

As for the only good guy character? I wouldn't really say that... main(ish) character, maybe. But there have been plenty of good guys that have died and that have not been brought back to life (seen in additional flashbacks or having other worldly communication with them, maybe... but the character remains dead). Yinsen, Erskine, Frigga, Odin, Warriors 3, Yondu, T'Chaka, Zuri, The Ancient One. Those are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head (and isn't even getting into the MCU tv shows - which are still technically part of the MCU).

Heck, Groot could even possibly be considered (if you follow Gunn's assertion that baby/young Groot is not the same person & does not have the memories of adult Groot that sacrificed himself in GotG, that baby/young Groot is more akin to Groot's 'son')

I agree with Gunn that Baby/Teen Groot is a different character and that Groot died in GotG.

Going for my fifth showing later today, this time IMAX. Have to get that in before the showings are limited where I am.

If there were alternate versions there is no way they wouldn't be crowing about it, as it would then require us all to keep going to catch the different versions. Box office delight.

This "2nd cut" thing with Xandar and such included is the dumbest rumor ever, LOL!

I’d agree with him too. I mean it’s kind of up to him lol.

why is it dumb? Don't you remember X-men Origins Wolverine? they did multiple endings on different reels:

https://geektyrant.com/news/2009/4/...from-x-men-origins-wolverine-have-been-r.html

its quite possible that a movie this big, they made secret reels out there to surprise people who are viewing the movie more than once.

I also remember early leaked reviews of Infinity War on reddit where people were saying Thanos destroys Xandar. Ill try to find the link and post it here when I get it.

These are the type of things that always pop up before a movie comes out. Where people take what things are known and then pop in their own fanfiction. There are things wrong in what this person "saw" like Nebula is not the one that lets them know Thanos is going to Knowhere. the "Battleworld" (I'm assuming they mean what we learned to be Titan) is not the same as the "Soul Planet".... and the movie doesn't end with Thanos' defeat (clearly).

There are no additional edits of the movie floating around out there. Far FAR more people would be talking about it if there were. (and that screen shot looks like something pulled (and probably photoshopped slightly) from the first GotG movie when the Collector is explaining to the Guardians about the Infinity Stones)

If that is the case, then why WOULDNT they show Xandar being destroyed. Seems like they missed a huge opportunity for action and emotion. In gotg Ronin and Thanos were always talking about destroying Xandar.

You got plenty of that with Hulk and Loki. Destroying the Nova Corps yet again, with a bunch of civilians none of us had any attachment to, wouldn't have had nearly the same effect,

^^ This ^^

General audiences (who don't necessarily follow every tid bit and know all the lore) are going to have more of a visceral/emotional connection to the Asgardian opening (where we have main characters recently seen in the MCU with Thor: Rag) than there would be with Xandar (that doesn't have any main characters on it at the time, and even it's side characters haven't been seen since 2014)

thats pretty cold referring to the deaths of billions like that.

It's how it is. Deaths are always tragic. But I don't cry after people, who died in a war a continent away. Or did you shed a single tear, for the amount of people that died in the first Guardians of the Galaxy? If anything, it was Groot's death that elicited an emotion out of you.

I am going with Hulk being afraid of Thanos after he beat him like a government mule. For the first time Hulk is worried he and Banner could be killed.

i have two takes on the hulk's "issues".

1) hulk is tired of fighting banner's battles or

2) it is actually banner that is not letting hulk come out because he is afraid he will never come back.

if it were the second then that could explain why the hulk was so easily defeated by the hulk (it was not a fully engaged hulk).

I think it won't at all be a mere continuing of the "fight" against Thanos. It will be a different type of story but... Yeah, please, Spidey and Panther are not going to stay dead. They are having a go at us and it will be that narratively, dramatically they want the audience to buy into the other remaining characters sense of grief. Unless everybody thinks the next GOTG film is just Rocket and Nebula?

or that audiences will be okay with either a) a bunch of prequels (set before infinity wars) or b) retcons.

Alternate versions of people is so overdone in the comics. I hope they don't do that here. :(

that is one of the problems with the comics; you have to deal with some seriously flawed or disappointing new versions of your heroes, such as a captain america that is sworn to hydra or a scarlet witch that carries on an incestuous relationship with her brother.

No, it’s sensible story telling. Audiences don’t care about the mass death of faceless characters the same way they do about characters they’ve have come to know and have attachment to.

For those interested in Screen time, here is IMDBs breakdown of the character screen time in A:IW. I don't think their screen time listings are exactly 100% accurate, as other breakdowns for TA & AoU conflict with theirs...but this is the only such breakdown I can find currently (and it does look at least in the right ball park). Also, it looks like it is rounded to nearest 15secs interval:

Thanos <29>
Gamora <19:30>
Tony Stark / Iron Man <18>
Thor <14:30>
Dr. Stephen Strange <11:30>
Peter Quill / Star-Lord <10:15>
Vision <9:45>
Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch <9>
Dr. Bruce Banner / The Hulk <8:45>
Peter Parker / Spider-Man <7:30>
Steve Rogers <6:45>
Rocket <6>
Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow <5>
Drax <4:45>
Mantis <4:45>
Ebony Maw <4>
Proxima Midnight <3:45>
Cull Obsidian <3:45>
Corvus Glaive <3:30>
King T'Challa / Black Panther <3:30>
Groot II <3:15>
Nebula <3:15>
Okoye <3:15>
Loki <3:15>
Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes / War Machine <3>
Eitri <2:45>
Wong <2:45>
Sam Wilson / Falcon <2:15>
James "Bucky" Barnes / White Wolf <2>
Pepper Potts <1:30>
The Stonekeeper <1:30>
Princess Shuri <1>
M'Baku <1>
Secretary Thaddeus Ross <1>
Nick Fury <1>
Maria Hill <:45>
Heimdall <:45>
Taneleer Tivan / The Collector <:45>
Ned Leeds <:15>

pepper potts had about 1:30 more screen time than i would have liked.
