Avengers the Initiative

But the battle was over by the time he killed Crusader. All the other heroes were celebrating.

it doesn't just turn off, he's been running around to every state in the US and slaughtering people who used to be his teammates in the initiative, plus he's been doing that with a group of slaughter happy psychos given that as a circumstance I can see him not being quite right in the head for some time.

Exactly, he's now trained to do this.

Skrulls hide as heroes and many times even act like heroes. Thor Girl died not knowing she was a skrull. These skrulls could have been activated at anytime to take out the heroes and take over the world. Im not sayinf 3D Man didnt **** up, but the entire team of them including Crusader just finished killing skrulls disguised as heroes. Thats what 3D Man saw and acted the way they were all acting 5 seconds before.

not really, he got caught up in bloodlust, happens all the time on the battlefield IRL. It leads to alot of the PTSS you seem on vietnam vets and such.

But wait, the whole single point of the Initiative training was so people wouldn't run around in a blood rage killing with no awareness of their actions or taking time to properly take scope of the situation.

So after all this training he went through, he does just that. What's worse he watches Crusader take down and kill an escaping Skrull (and a leader at that) and then decides to shoot first. He didn't do that in any other state he went too.

Worked well for slapstick and cloud 9, they really got straightened out.

And trained soldiers can get caught up in it easily, happens all the time. Your adreniline is going and you just freak. Actually makes a scary thing coming at you, this premise is the same behind what the vikings used to create beserker warriors way back in the day.

My issue isn't with 3D Man not noticing Crusader's a good Skrull. That's an easy mistake to make. My issue is with the fact that he pretty much murdered Crusader in cold blood. He could've taken Crusader down without blowing a hole in the back of his head. Apparently his short time with the Kill Krew has taken Delroy from the idealistic hero he was as Triathlon to a vicious murderer who'll shoot nonthreatening single opponents from behind.

Except he just swept through the entire country, killing Skrulls disguised as heroes. If he saw one more, why the hell wouldn't he shoot it? It wouldn't make sense for him to do anything but take him down as quickly as possible.

Yeah haven't you heard, apparently "take him down as quickly as possible" translates as "****ING KILL THEM, YEAH WOO **** YEAH" now.

War time. The enemy? Evil invading aliens who want to kill you and take over your planet. They could be disguised as anyone and, in this case, are disguised as your friends.

So yeah, if you see one, you shoot him in the ****ing head.

I think my mindset is influenced by playing too much left4dead the last couple of days.

Plus keep in mind that Triathlon... I mean 3d-Man had seen Crusader as a normal human earlier Crusader had used the ring to will himself to appear normal. So 3d-Man has no reason to know that he was a Skrull all along fighting on behalf of the Earth. As far as Delroy knew, Crusader was a sleeper agent. I original thought he was casual about it at first, but the more I thought about it, you really would have to kill every enemy Skrull, because it would be too easy for them to escape using shapeshifting.

Right, right. When you say it like that, I could see how killing one lone Skrull amidst an entire battlefield filled with superheroes would be the only possible way to neutralize the threat.

I don't see how that's any different from what I just said. :) "****ING KILL THEM, YEAH WOO **** YEAH."

You're right Corp, they should have talked it out! Reasonable discussion always wins wars.

All this is going to do is make him a more interesting character when he comes back, as long as he's not whiny.

It is if he's an alien shapeshifter and you're the only one that can tell.

Oh yeah, I remember that's why every single other person who could see the Skrulls did the exact same...the exact...hmm wait a minute...

...Anyway, I don't see why you're being so penisless about this, Corp. Clearly, gunning down a single, nonthreatening "opponent" in the back of the noggin when he's surrounded by a literal army of your demigodly comrades and then grinning in maniacal glee about it is the apex of the soldier's duty and code. In war. 'Cause of war, see.

Maybe I'm being so penisless about it because I lost my penis in a war. :( F***ing war! :cmad:

Spreading peanut butter on your naked body and then going to a petting zoo isn't a war, corp.

I got that Delroy and everyone else was still in the throws of their Skrull bloodlust, but it was still a depressing ending and a depressing message. What if the invasion was from alternate reality mutants? Would the X-Men get slugs to the back of the head now?

The Initiative as planned and conducted by Gyrich, Gauntlet, and Skrullowjacket (and War Machine, but less so than the other three) was to create super soldiers, not superheroes. There is a difference. It really takes no strategy to just slaughter every enemy you see; a ten year old with an AK-47 can do that, and do. It takes superhuman precision and whatnot to stop some major threat without having to actually kill it. Delroy was caught in the moment and Crusader could have planned it better, but the moral was that trying to be more than what others think of you and being an individual like Crusader was trying to be is worthless because all anyone will see is the color of your skin. The fact that Delroy's African American makes it especially ironic. Like how I always would laugh when I would see minority characters who hated mutants. Like, HELLO! You'd think they'd be more understanding of bigotry than us evil whities.

The Initiative was about more than simple warfare. The drill was that killing threats was what was expected. The threats they fought, from criminals to Skrulls were just nameless grunts and if you have to kill them, do so, do it quickly and don't dare feel a shred of remorse or anything beyond sadistic pleasure, otherwise you're untrustworthy. The problem with the Marvel Universe citizens and government is they just move from one knee jerk overreaction to the rest. They make the Shi'ar look calm and rational, I swear to god. :p

Still, nothing like a debacle to embarass people into some changes. If Justice could return, maybe the program could be rethought into some sanity. Or, Norman Osborn could run it and it would just become a Sinister Twelve recruiting farm.

I thought it was pretty put of character for Delroy, even with bloodlust it seemed OoC. Like it's been pointed out, the heroes had won, Crusader killed Skrollowjacket himself, their was no real reason for Delroy to do what he did. Delroy is a former Avenger and one of THE top initiative recruits to graduate, I could see that scenario going down but with somebody else, not Delroy.
