Avengers vs. X-Men: 2012 Event - Part 1

Meh, I think they can do better than to kill him off.

(Speaking of Mark Waid), his Daredevil proves there's other ways of handling redemption than to just off somebody. Killing Scott does no advantage for him. I've said it before. Keep him alive and have him shunned from both the mutant and non mutant communities. It would be especially ironic if things go the way they seem to be going post AvX, where it's a role reversal of sorts between the X-Men and Avengers, the X-Men getting all the glory and the Avengers on the short end.

Put him out on his own where's he has to fend for himself in order to get back to his place in the superhuman community. Some of the best Cyclops stories ever done were when he was solo against a threat. The Master Mold fight early on in X-Factor vol 1 and his solo battle with Sinister and the Dark Riders from X-Men #22-23.

Basically, you want Scott to do what Charles did at the beginning of X-Men Legacy?

Eh, it could work.

We DID just learn that Sinister has a bunch of Cyclops clones. Easiest way to redeem him is to say the guy leading the X-men is one of those clones sent by Sinister

I say make him the captain of the Starjammer and send him to Space. Space will make him better.

I think its the best crossover event Marvel has had in years, which may not be saying much considering I disliked Fear Itself, Secret Invasion, World War Hulk and Siege. This is at least entertaining although alot of the characterizations will surely have you pulling your hair.

Honestly, I WANT to like this event being that I'm a fan of both the Avengers and the X-Men... but I just don't. I can honestly say without batting an eye that it's my LEAST favorite event of the modern age. From House of M through now this is the worst written, conceived, and so far drawn event. I honestly didn't think I'd like anything less than Fear Itself but I feel like that event was heads and tales better than this. The characterisations are just so far off that it's not enjoyable in the slightest. Having Panther and Storm actually battling, Cap and Scott's mentalities, the blind loyalty of both the X-Men and the Avengers to their leaders, etc.

Honestly, I don't see anything good coming down the road in this story. There might be good stuff as a result of it but I think most of that will be fixing all the bad things that's happening here or prior to it.

Worst Marvel event yet? Someone didn't thoroughly read Fear Itself or Secret Invasion...

Surprise though, everyone is being pissed off, skeptical, and dismissive of a Marvel event that isn't even over.

People are allowed to have an opinion and considering we are 6 issues in with even more tie-ins out, I think people can validly gauge whether they like it or not. Its not like people are writing it off after the first week.

Fear Itself was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy worse.

I'd say AvX is pretty even with Secret Invasion right now on a level of sucktitude.

I actually really enjoyed Secret Invasion, one of the best events of recent years. I didn't like Fear Itself at all but this is by far worse than that. Fear Itself didnt' drag itself out like this, the action was better than random groupshot punches, and at least MOST of the characters acted like themselves. This event has honestly been such a waste of my time and money that I'm probably lower in my enjoyment of comics now than I've ever been.

Secret Invasion was a classic example of an event that should've just been a big storyline in one comic. The more tie-in comics you read of that thing, the less sense it made.

I haven't been reading AvX, but it sounds like the exact opposite. People are loving the tie-ins and hating the main miniseries.

Yeah, I can agree with that to an extent. Secret Invasion's main mini was pretty good and the build up was fantastic. It was oversaturated with tie-ins though, most of which were redundant. The Hercules and X-Men tie-ins were both good but most everything else was bleh.

With AvX it's just that the main event is so horribly written that it sucks all the enjoyment out of it... at least in my opinion. There's still 6 issues to go so it might turn around and make me love it but I'm not holding my breath.

Secret Invasion benefited from being written by one writer. There was alot more consistency within that series bc it was all Bendis and he knew where he was going with the characters and plot. AvX on the other hand has 5 different writers in the pot. I dont know who thought it would be a good idea to play musical chairs issue to issue bc each one has their own style and voice for the characters and thats where the inconsistencies and flaws seem to come out. It should have been just one, maybe two writers doing this thing together and leave those others off the main series

52 had four writers and turned out pretty good. Maybe these particular writers just don't know how to work together as well as 52's four.

I didn't think 52 was all that great. I kinda liked Question, Batwoman, and the Crime Bible, and I liked Black Adam. The rest I don't even remember. But at least it was better than Countdown.

Was the giant Phoenix Buster suit/cannon/thing a plot in one of the Avengers books?

Scott's scene with Jean in last week's AvX Infinite: Round 6 was one of his best in recent history. Id recommend checking it out if you havent yet

It was written by Mark Waid. He's always did great work with the X-Men even though it's been in small amounts.

I didnt even realize he was still writing at Marvel
