Scott's scene with Jean in last week's AvX Infinite: Round 6 was one of his best in recent history. Id recommend checking it out if you havent yet

CYCLOPS: "Oh you know. Still dating my mistress, lost Beast's respect trying to keep mutants alive on a small island, had a falling out with Chuck, getting more like Magneto every day, teetering on the brink of insanity, picked a fight with both Wolverine and Captain America for no good reason, the usual. How about you?"

Mark Waid does good work, period. Given how long and prolific his career has been, his duds have been incredibly few and far between.

ok just finished the new issue, did they seriously have thor punch a kid in the gut

and they wonder why Scott says that the Avengers are hating on the mutants. Yeah Thor, the god with his super strength punching a defenseless X-kid for NO REASON other than he stood in front of Hope was pretty bad. None of the team looked outraged or called him out on it either

And the character derailment just continues to get worse and worse... DAMN YOU QUESADA AND YOUR EVIL HENCHMEN! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!! :cmad:

Because this event is about the X-Men as religious fundamentalists vs. the Avengers as neo-fascists. Diplomacy is for *****es. :oldrazz:

Now I'm really happy I skipped this.I haven't read a marvel event since WWH and that was a birthday gift.I don't feel like I've missed much.

I still don't really see how the X-men are religious zealots. I guess because they treat Hope as a messiah? But ever since Messiah Complex, and when we saw Hope as a redheaded baby, we knew she was going to be connected to the Phoenix and restore mutants. Five mutants manifested when Hope came back to the timeline, and we know that that was through Hope's connection to the Phoenix force. And since the Phoenix was raw cosmic energy, and Hope has literally trained her entire life (regardless of how this event has written her), wouldn't giving her the Phoenix be the best possible option, instead of a completely idiotic Stark mecha-weapon? This is the culmination of almost a decade of X-men stories, so WHY are the Avengers involved?

Cyclops is justified. And now's he's going to be a villain.

and yet instead of calmly explaining this to the Avengers he blasts Captain America in the face.

Shouldn't the Avengers know all of that already? It's not a secret, and yet Captain America still came with an army.

And Cyclops is best friends with a war criminal whose attempts at genocide he helped stopped during the first iteration of the team.

Yep, everyone is behaving badly, especially Cap championing fascism, particularly in light to his reaction to the SRA.

he came with an army....
....or he showed up with the Avengers to help with the situation

LOL...Cyclops is not best friends with Magneto. Besides Magneto has done some god awful things in the past but he is a hero now and has been for quite some time. He hasnt been a villian in over 10 years. Its not like he was just instantly accepted into the group right after he led some international assault. He had already changed his ways long before he rejoined the team and since joining he has proven to be a good ally that has helped save mutantkind AND humanity along the way. He's given Scott and the rest of the team good reason to trust and accept him by their side. I dont think Magneto on his squad should serve as a strike against him

Yep thats the great ol' Avengers

As much as I want to agree that everyone involved in behaving out of character, it seems like this kind of thing was inevitable. Most of Marvel's superheroes have a "hit first, ask questions later" mentality, which is why so many heroes usually fight one another briefly before a team-up. These are people who are virtually incapable of talking out their disagreements with other people in flashy costumes, and they're all notorious for never fully explaining their actions.

For example, look at Bishop's betrayal of the X-Men. He never actually told anybody that history taught him that Hope Summers would grow up to be something/someone terrible or why. Likewise, everyone assumed Cable had betrayed the X-Men instead of Bishop at first because Cable never bothered to tell anyone that his history taught him that she was practically the next Jesus. They just took action, never explained anything, and caused a major clusterhump.

Now look at AvX. Do the X-Men even know what the Avengers plan to do with Hope? Do the Avengers know what the X-Men have planned for her? Do the X-Men even know what Hope is, as I seem to recall Cable being awfully vague about her role in the first place?

what was up with the ugly armor on everyone???

H.A.L.O. jumpsuits. They were to drop in on Utopia as undetected as possible.

so much wrong with this?
Why do heroes only get crafty when fighting other heroes????

After seeing that picture I hope every X-Man turns their back on Wolverine for being a traitor and he gets tossed out of the X-Men for a good long while but it's not gonna happen....

well he's infilitrating Scott's team so he really doesnt care what they think of him. Its not like they can kick him out as he's not a part of the Utopia branch anymore

Cyclops is not justified. Everyone's aware that the Phoenix is destroying every planet it touches on the way to Earth. Maybe Hope could use it to reignite the mutant race, but that's a big maybe that Cyclops is taking entirely on faith, hence religious fundamentalist. Cyclops has also demonstrated absolutely no concern for the collateral damage that may accompany that; the way he's acting, he probably wouldn't care if the Phoenix incinerated plenty of those pesky flatscans in its attempt to restore mutantkind. That's the kind of extremism that accompanies religious fundamentalism.

After all, the Phoenix's full schtick is rebirth. Destruction of what's already there usually precedes the birth part. The Avengers initially just wanted to move Hope to a safer location than right off the coast of California. Captain America came to talk to Cyclops with a backup plan in place just in case Cyclops flew off the handle, since the people on Cap's team who knew Scott best said he definitely would; and, sure enough, he did. Cyclops started the escalation by blindly attacking as soon as Cap brought up the idea of moving Hope, and now both sides are so far on the extreme sides of the spectrum that they're acting like crazy people.

Who wrote that part where Thor punches the kid? Disgraceful, i'm glad i don't read these comics anymore. I literally cannot think of anything more out of character of Thor to do.
