Don't forget that Terry McGuinness commits the unforgivable sin of being a character created after 1980 or so. Despite the popularity of Harley Quinn, there are certainly still people inside the DC establishment who hold that against characters.

Honestly, my reaction to this is just an extension of my prior reaction: "So, you really hate Oracle that much, don't you." Its just another iteration on "Lets do everything we can with the Batgirl concept except for the thing that actually made her a distinct and memory character able to support her own comic for 20+ years".

I just look back and we missed GCS/GCS vs BOP, we missed Nightwing, we missed Batgirl bc we didn't know what Reeves trilogy would look like (given, we still don't know all 3 movies) but now we know it's outside the DCEU, Flashpoint is coming, and we can have multiple versions of Batman on screen at once so why not multiple versions of other Bat-characters? Dick and Babs are in Titans anyway.

WB has no plan.

Lots of DC movies don't get cancelled, they just fall into the abyss never to be heard from again. This is more then likely one of them

That Barbara Gordon is appearing on Titans does not bode well for it. She seems to be one of those "closely held" characters that weren't supposed to be shared.

I think this is the overall problem of a live action cinematic Batman family spinoff. I want to see Batgirl. Batgirl to me comes from being the daughter of Commissioner Gordon and is centered in Gotham where Batman is a constant presence. Now if you want to do yet another movie ala BOP where Batman is missing. Now you have a possible sequel, does Nightwing ever appear. Well what about his movie, etc. I'm beginning to think that Batman and Family works better as a series.

I mean, its probably technically true? Just not in an especially important or meaningful way. The valuable and desirable characters will still have different execs and divisions fighting over them, with people preferentially wanting exclusive control whether for creative or ego reasons. They are just trying to gain PR hay from admitting what has been the case for a while, that not everyone whose wanted exclusive control has been able to actually achieve that, vis a vis internal corporate politics.

Its still not a great sign that Barbara Gordon gets approved for Titans, not when they'd otherwise locked her down like an a-lister for a long time. Doubly so since its as a version of Oracle, when they've similarly spent years trying their best to erase Oracle from existence. Strongly suggests to me a *major* collapse in corporate interest in the character.

With the visibility of Batgirl at the AT&T investor presentation a couple days ago, and the mention in the recent New York Times profile of Walter Hamada, it seems that this may happen.
But after ‘Birds of Prey’- which had the same writer- I’m not sure anymore whether I want it to.

WB needs to stop being pushed around. They need to stop trying to be Marvel and they need to stop listening to vocal minorities ala Snyder Cut which to me seems like a no-win situation. They have talented directors wanting to make movies, like Duvenay, Jenkins, and McKay. They need to let them do it and stop messing with it behind the scenes. I don’t understand how Batgirl or McKay’s Nightwing doesn’t get made, but the monstrosity that was BoP did.

It strikes me HBO are gonna strike out as the winner in the future production structure following the ZSJL and get the backing to make the more 'edgy' and lesser 'valued' by the GA character films and leave WB to scrabble around in their 'what the F are we doing' mindset.
