Batgirl 'Batgirl' movie? - Part 1

I’m a Bronze Age fan. I’m sick of having edgy Superman. Give me some happiness any day of the week. But I’m glad some people like properties like BvS. Different strokes for different folks.

WB needs to stop being pushed around. They need to stop trying to be Marvel and they need to stop listening to vocal minorities ala Snyder Cut which to me seems like a no-win situation. They have talented directors wanting to make movies, like Duvenay, Jenkins, and McKay. They need to let them do it and stop messing with it behind the scenes. I don’t understand how Batgirl or McKay’s Nightwing doesn’t get made, but the monstrosity that was BoP did.

Being fair, one of the people pushing WB around, vis a vis DC properties, is AT&T, and WB can't really do anything about being pushed around by their ultimate owners and parent company.

Treat this as a rumor for now until the trades confirm this, but if true then interesting.

Surprised they didn't go for a female director. That seemed to be the case where only black directors could direct movies about black heroes etc etc.

Maybe Adil & Bilall had a pitch for Batgirl that wowed WB execs, or execs got a peek at their work on "Ms. Marvel".

Still bummed this is an HBO Max exclusive, not a theatrical one. I really hope WB revises their plan once production begins.

I hope that’s not the case; if Michael Keaton’s Batman is to appear beyond The Flash, he should be mentoring Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond, not Barbara Gordon.

I wouldn’t mind seeing J.K. Simmons return as Commissioner Gordon; Ben Affleck could even return if Batman is to appear.

Jeffrey Wright would be fine too, though I am not sure if this is intended to be set in Matt Reeves’ universe.

I don’t know if they should even consider setting this in yet another universe, but we’ll see what happens after The Flash.

Batgirl being it's own thing is definitely possible

The initial report for the new Superman reboot was that it was set in DCEU but eventually morphed into it's own thing in the most recent reports

This will certainly be part of the rebooted DC film universe.
It has long been rumored, from multiple sources, that an older Batman (Keaton) will mentor Batgirl in ‘The Flash’.
Christina Hodson wrote both the now-filming-Flash and Batgirl.
Guessing that Batgirl will debut in ‘The Flash’ and then have her solo film on HBOMax.
Also guessing (more wildly) that since ‘Flash’ director Andy Muschietti also made ‘It’, Sophia Lillis -even though she’s apparently pretty tiny- could be Barbara Gordon.

I’m just having a hard time with the idea of what will then be a 70 year old Keaton mentoring Batgirl. It’s too late into his career to introduce this character now. The two other characters that are most tied to Batgirl (Commissioner Gordon and Joker) were played by a deceased and retired actor respectively. It would have been so much smoother if Affleck’s Batman had been a smash hit, setting up an entire sub-universe of Batman films.

If Michael Keaton is involved in mentoring a young female hero, I’d strongly prefer a gender swapped Terry McGinnis or Carrie Kelly.

The Jane Levy fan art I like even better than Emma's. She was up for it a few years back when rumors started swirling and she evidently said she was interested on her twitter account. I posted this a while back on the Birds of Prey forum pertaining to Batgirl...

Spring of 2018 after Whedon's Batgirl put on the backburner:
WB was finalizing 2 different Birds of Prey scripts and Batgirl was rumored as a constant I saw the best fan art depiction of her that I think cements Jane Levy in the role just wanted to post here as there's been so much discussed since then and I think the best option has been laid out already:

The character in "Don't Breath" horror film I remember her from most but yeah she's the perfect choice for Batgirl.

They're rougher photo manip jobs for both a fan casted Huntress and Black Canary as well as a separate poster featuring Batgirl too. If anything, I don't think the big haired look should be gone for with Batgirl anyway from a characterization standpoint as it just doesn't seem to gel.

The actress is on the shorter side at 5'2" but movie magic wise that doesn't matter. She's athletic looking and can easily do the part.
