Batman: Arkham Origins - Part 2

I like that you actually have to work a little to put all the pieces together. In past Arkham games, it was basically just scan this, follow a trail.

I hope it's not too complicated, small things like this make or break for a game.

Anarky revealed as a villlian in "Arkham Origins".

I'm really looking forward to this game so far but there are two things that bother me so far based on what I've seen of the game.

1) The graphics don't look as clear and as polished as the graphics in the Rocksteady games looked. Yes, graphics don't make-or-break the game but when your game is part of arguably one of the best and most successful video game franchises of all time which was known for its great graphics and animation, it does make your game visually look as a step down in comparison at first glance.

2) The free roam. It appears that my biggest fear came true. There is one problem I have with all superhero video games with free roam of the entire city: it looks very unrealistic to have only about 10 people and 10 cars on every street. The Spider-Man games are extremely guilty of this, where there are only about 15 people in the entire Times Square area. This wasn't an issue for Arkham Asylum and Arkham City because those games respectively took place in an asylum and in only a part of the city that has been closed off from the rest of the world & has been turned into a prison.

In the demo of this game though, it appears as if there are barely any cars and barely any normal civilians in New Gotham, which is to Gotham City what Manhattan is to New York. Even with the Christmas setting and the bad weather, it is still very unrealistic. During the scene in the demo where the Joker blew up the next-door building and Batman asks how many people he killed, my first thought was "Well, he probably barely killed anyone since the whole city looks almost deserted." :funny:

I will reserve judgment till the game comes out though.

My only nitpick about Arkham Origins so far. The graphics look too glossy compared to AA and AC. Reminds me of a lesser Ultimate setting in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

Christmas Eve(who knows what the exact time is) where mostly everyone would, realistically, be home as well as numerous crimes being committed and Black Mask possibly orchestrating it all. Why would there be a lot of people outdoors?

late night shoppers, working folk, homeless people, etc...

idk?

Late night shoppers - again, we don't know the exact time this game is set on Christmas Eve night.

working folk - inside the buildings, not outside.

the homeless - wouldn't that be set primarily within a special area than what we've seen so far just like Batman Begins' Gotham where the homeless stayed in the lower street area?

I can buy there not being a lot of people in a place like Old Gotham but what we saw in the demo is the downtown area, or at least close to it. Realistically speaking, no major American city the size of Gotham would have a downtown area that deserted even on Christmas Eve. The area doesn't have to necessarily be packed with people but I would expect more people than what we saw.

I could be wrong though and it could totally work within the context of the game. It is possible that they have a very good reason for so many people staying indoors (threats from Black Mask maybe?) or maybe there are a lot more people in the game than what I saw.

Unfortunately they said and made it clear that people/citizens are in their homes sipping hot coco with their family's etc and they said the shopping district of old Gotham is mostly empty and the homeless must be few, if they're not in some home shelter which most of them should be . which leaves Black Mask free reign to have his way with the shopping district of old Gotham til the Bat tick's him off and he calls in ssassins to be rid of him.

The only other people that are working that night are some of the police force half of them corrupt. That's pretty much it.

also, remember this game takes place over many hours... while it's always 'night'.

Gotham has always varied from a city that was maximum the size of New York and minimum the size of Chicago. Both of those cities have more people downtown on Christmas Eve than the number of people that appear to be in the game, regardless of the time at night.

i was going to make a thread on this but id rather just post it here

ok, ive been playing batman arkham asylum to prepare for origins. and you all most likely seen the room where if you go in it shows the plans for arkham city and how it was going to look.

i was in this area in the game, where you search for harley quinn and i found this:

deathstroke is in this game and it's set during christmas.....

games looks exactly the same, gameplay wise, which is great. i can't wait to play. i like gliding around so the bigger the city the better. the strange thing is the combat always reminded me of an old spiderman game. they even managed to give a spider sense to batman. don't know why though but i think its the stealth or gadgets aspect that makes this game so much more enjoyable.
