Batman: Arkham Origins - Part 2

What surprised me in both AA and AC is how bad the characterization was. Considering characterization is Dini's strength, it was certainly a disappointment.

Eh...the writing was fine for what the games were about. I'm playing these Batman games for the narrative. I just want it to be decent enough, but I'm playing for the visceral aspects; being Batman and playing with the combat mechanics or stealth.

I love both games to no end, i've made several playthroughs of both. They are visually stunning. The gameplay is incredible and makes you think you're batman. The mood is brilliant. The soundtrack is powerful.

But the stories are really the weak point. Asylum's story is simple and really not that interesting. But it's not really bad. It's just bland and generic. Characterization is really not that good though (with Batman saying things like "Gordon is smater than he looks" for instance).

City's story is just plain bad though. they teased us with Strange, only to make him uninteresting and nothing more than a pawn. And in the same process, they made Ra's dumb, since he needed Hugo to figure out who Batman was. Also, the stufff about strange knowing his identity is never used in the game, save for the beginning, and the scene in crime alley.

These games are amazing. Their stories are not. And it's not a matter of being a videogame. A lot of videogames have great stories.

I think Origins story could be better though. I'm glad they use LOTDK as an inspiration.

I still don't care much for video game stories
Characterization in these games seem fine, which does matter

The Arkham.stories were ok. I look forward to the gameplay the most i want to feel like Batman thats the important. The story is the last thing on my mind.

:whatever: this is batman This is not just another game we know from the comics and other media you can make great stories with Batman :jedi

There are great Batman stories from Miller to latest Nolan flms etc we never. Had a
gameplay where I never felt I was Batman until Arkham Asylum and City. Thats just me I prefer gameplayover story when it comes to video games

:jedi You need more ambitious man there is no wrong in wanting a great story with a great gameplay :jedi

Exactly. Why does it have to be one or the other. The Arkham games gave us great gameplay, now add a great story to that.

I quite enjoyed Arkham Asylum's story. The concept of it was simple enough. Joker takes over Arkham to make Titan monsters, but it kept revealing little twists and turns along the way like Gordon getting kidnapped, Dr. Young being revealed as a lackey who was draining Bane's blood for the Titan, the Amadeus Arkham stuff, Joker injecting Ivy with the Titan etc. There was some semblance of a story there. It had a good flow. Apart from Bane all the characterizations were great. Joker, Harley, Scarecrow, Ivy....they were all great.

In Arkham City, there is no proper story. It's basically just chase the cure with a little sub plot about protocol 10 thrown in at the end. Which is a shame, but the amazing gameplay makes up for it. There is also more 'off' characterizations in AC like Strange, Two Face, and Bane again. Joker, Penguin, and Mr. Freeze are the best written characters in the game.

I would love if Origins got a great story to match the gameplay.

That's a lot of blind bias right there.

Crocker had a much expanded role in Arkham City...

Dini came up with the nugget of the story and developed characters and key moments.

However alot of the point A to point B to point C stuff was handled by Crocker.

I'm glad Dini isn't coming back... but THREE people wrote Arkham City, so I don't see why people like to throw blame entirely at Dini. Harley Quinn's Revenge proves my point enough.

That's a lot of blind bias right there.

At least the better the story, the easier it is to sit through unwanted scenes
Oh well, guess I'll be ambitious and demand good stories for games in general

Oh I do want a great story with the gameplay. It's just I want to play a game first and then follow what happens. If a gameplay of a video game sucks not many people gonna buy or even rent it. gameplay of a video game comes first story later. If we do get a great story with BAO gameplay then it will be better than AA & AC combined.

I love delivery of the lines in trailer. ” what did you do to me” sounds perfect

I still am not sold on RCS, he sounds like someone trying to sound like Batman rather than being Batman. I guess maybe that ties into the Year 2 concept but the voice is not something I am impressed with so far.

I think aside from Conroy, I really enjoyed Bruce Greenwood's Batman in Under the Red Hood.

Cam footage from the SDCC game demo. A lot of similar footage to the E3 version, but I think this might be a slightly newer build, as it has more on-screen instructions and has slightly different mission complete messages. For example, stopping the crime-in-progress bank raid now says "Primary objective complete: crime in progress thwarted as opposed to the E3 build's "Primary objective complete: stop the crime in progress".

- Time-frame 4:23: You get to hear a tiny snippet of Alfred's voice who sounds very similar to AC's Alfred. Same actor?
- Batman's rumoured new rushing combat move? As reported a while back. First at 8:01 and again at 8:12

Read Bane's bio. I don't like that the Venom changes his bone structure. I fear we might a hulking Bane again.

Dang,I feel like the only one that really enjoyed the stories in the last two Batman games

Asylum was ok, but City had story points that were set up and not used to their full potential. With logic flaws, and highly convenient set ups. Like needing Ra's blood for a cure, who just so happens to be in Arkham City, with his own Lazarus Pit no less.

I loved both games stories. Batman had terrible dialogue though. Also killing joker was genius. But Batman carrying him out almost ruined it

I didn't mind his death, and Batman carrying him out would have been fine with me if it wasn't for the fact that he ditched Talia, the woman he supposedly loved, in the theater.
