Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 4

Count me in as someone who doesn't understand the appeal of Armie Hammer either.

Like is everyone forgetting the Man From UNCLE movie? It wasn't very good. It bombed. It only received fairly middling reviews. Nothing about his chemistry with Cavill in that movie blew me away. In fact, I thought Hammer was pretty unconvincing as a Russian, and he wasn't very good as Kuryakin.

I also recall, generally all his attempts at being a leading man have ended in failure.

I'm not saying he could never be a good Batman. I just don't see it. It's like the only reason people are thinking Hammer is because he's tall.

Why does it even have to be a known actor?

Yeah, I thought he was okay in UNCLE but nothing special. And he was AWFUL in that Lone Ranger movie. That's not to say he's a bad actor (I really liked him in Free Fire and I'm sure he's good in Call Me By Your Name) but like you said, his big attempts at being a big box office leading man haven't panned out yet.

Famous movie stars, good acting skill, fit the role:
- Nicholas Hoult (age: 28, height: 6'2¾")
- Armie Hammer (age: 32, height: 6'5")
- Finn Wittrock (age: 34, height: 5'9")
- Oscar Isaac (age: 39, height: 5'8½")

Overrated actors, show up in every superheroes fancast:
- Dylan O'Brien (age: 27, height: 5'10")
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson (age: 28, height: 5'11")
- Zac Efron (age: 30, height: 5'8")
- Tyler Hoechlin (age: 31, height: 5'10¾")
- Adam Driver (age: 34, height: 6'2½")
- Ryan Gosling (age: 37, height: 6'0½")
- Jake Gyllenhaal (age: 37, height: 6')
I don't see how Gyllenhaal is overated any more than those on the list of actors that would be a good fit for role.

Basic criteria for Bruce Wayne/Batman:
- In late 20s/early 30s years old (older actor can look younger than actual age is acceptable)
- At least 5'11"
- Good acting skill
- Handsome face
- Attractive look
- Deep voice
- Sex appeal

- Diogo Morgado (age: 37, height: 6'2¾")
- Travis Milne (age: 32, height: 6'2")
- Colin Donnell (age: 35, height: 5'10½")

Why does this feel like a journal entry in someones diary?

Ehh, much as I loathe the idea of Hammer getting the gig, he was hardly the problem with The Lone Ranger. That's actually a character that guy's pretty much perfectly suited for, that old-timey boyscout Hollywood Golden Age Hero type.

And U.N.C.L.E. was a really solid movie, he and Cavill alike did fine too.

Still doesn't mean he should get within a thousand yards of a Batman screentest.

I liked "The Lone Ranger". And I liked Armie Hammer in it. Both very underrated.

Since when is Finn Wittrock a famous movie star? And how do Nicholas Hoult and Oscar Isaac fit the role anymore than Ryan Gosling or Jake Gyllenhaal?

I could see Hammer playing other DCU roles, maybe not just Batman. Honestly, I could see him as a Booster Gold type. That is if DC/WB actually got off their butts and finally did a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle Team-Up film.

James Norton. He is the star of McMafia. I've seen his name bandied about for Bond, and a lot of actors who would be appropriate for Bond would also work as Bruce Wayne IMO.

Jon Hamm needs to play either Batman or Superman before he dies. To me he would be perfectly suited to play either one.

He's 47 but I think he could pass for someone in his mid-late 30's if they needed him to.

Brilliant actor, magnificent jawline, not so sure about Batman, though. But he's gotta play a superhero or villain at some point - that jaw should not go to waste, lol. Maybe if Marvel ever does Captain Britain.

I can’t wait until we get an official announcement. Some of these casting suggestions are just laughable.

Yeah I could see that. He does look very Bruce Wayne right there.

Oscar Isaac isn't 5'8 1/2. He's barely 5'7. Great actor, but he ain't Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Hollywood keeps trying to make Hoult work, but he just ain't working.

Honestly, I'd prefer an unknown at this point. Cause none of them are good enough. Gyllenhaal and Gosling would have been perfect but they're too big for the role.

Like I said, I'd prefer him for Bond but he looks just like a perfect Bruce there.

He may have aged out of the role, though. Are they still looking for an actor in the 25-35 range?

Having just briefly googled that Aidan Turner guy, I agree he'd make for a suitable Bruce Wayne (and also Batman) insofar as physical appearance goes. I'm sure I've seen him in something before, I just can't recall what his acting chops are like. Whatever the case, I'd probably be willing to get behind him for the role provided that he's any good.

Kili in The Hobbit Trilogy is where I know him. I didn't think he was shabby.
