Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 4

With credence to Reeves denying the Year One rumors, are we going back to actors over 30 for Batman?
Not necessarily. Batman's typically 25 years old when he starts out, so provided the film still takes place early in his career they'd still need an actor around that age bracket.

See, this is why I've been quite frustrated with how the Internet misrepresented Mario's report on The Batman the past couple of weeks. He never said that the film was going to be an adaptation of Year One, just that it was going to have some influences.

Honestly Reeves' comments on the matter just validate Mario's credibility more for me, as he backs up a lot of the finer details Mario has been reporting for ages now, as well as other guys like KC Walsh and Daniel R on Twitter.

We're probably still getting a young Batman here.

I think there's a bit of wiggle room to what Reeves said.

Obviously an origin story would require a younger actor, but this not being an origin story doesn't necessarily mean that they won't still being going younger.

I'm not surprised to hear they won't be doing an origin/Year One kind of thing, just because Batman Begins, though it may have been 13 years ago, still feels fairly fresh. But nevertheless, WB still probably wants someone with a bit of longevity to them.

I think the clearest example of the kind of template they should be going for here is Spider-Man: Homecoming. Young Spidey, but not an origin rehash.

Completely agreed on all points. They're gonna want a younger, less known actor that they can sign on for the next decade plus- much like how hardly anyone knew who Tom Holland was when he landed Spidey.

Yeah, I was thinking of that comparison earlier. Something in the vein of Homecoming (as you mentioned), Arkham Origins and The Long Halloween- a story set early in Bruce's career as Batman, but not a retelling of his origins.

Not necessarily. Batman's typically 25 years old when he starts out, so provided the film still takes place early in his career they'd still need an actor around that age bracket.

But many actors 30+ can play 25 no problem, and that's assuming Reeve's Batman will be around that age, which we don't know yet.

Agreed. He said it's one of the inspirations not a direct-adaptation, those fans need to read the original source better

I agree that that's prob what they'll go for

I am not sure what to think of Jake G dropping out, he's 35/36, with a proper shave and some make-ups/hairstyle designs, he can easily look 30, so I wonder if Matt just dropped him or vise versa

Garfield was around 29 when he played a college Parker.

The more I think about it, the more I am into the idea of Johnathan Groff...

With Matt Reeves recent affirmation that they'll be focusing on the "Detective" elements of Batman, I could see Groff fitting that bill pretty well considering his role on Mindhunter. I think if they dye his hair black, have him grow out his stubble, and gain a 15-20lbs of muscle in the right areas, he would be spot on for a younger Batman.

My shortlist as of right now:

Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Christopher Abbott
Joe Dempsie (I thought about it. I don't hate it.)
Jonathan Groff
Richard Madden
Tom Cullen

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal, I think it's possible he wanted to see a finished script before signing on, Matt couldn't deliver that last December obviously and MCU came a calling.

Or maybe he was trepidatious about the whole thing and the MCU may have sounded like a safer bet for his team/agent.

Oh yeah. That's what we need. A slab of good looking meat who's acting chops have kept him in low budget TV movies his entire career...

Well, what would you rather go with? The biggest franchise in cinema history? Or the place where Martha lives?

As I've said elsewhere, it speaks volumes about the state of DC on film that one of our best male actors would rather sod about with a goldfish bowl on his head than play Batman.

you people want a new batman, WELL how we supposed to tell the audience what happend to batfleck ?
This is not a actor change in a TV show , or katie holmes replaced in the dark knight

its the biggest super hero in the universe, and u just gonna forget about it , while aquaman & shazam is set after justice league ?

WB & affleck need to stop messin with the fans, didnt the same affleck knew he was goin to be the RDJ of DC ?, what did Synder pinched Him anyway ?

"u goin to play the old batman for 4 films, 2 by me ,Suicide squad, u goin to make one ?

now were ****ed

It's a new Batman. It's really not that complicated. People overstate how hung up general audiences get on these things. They replaced Andrew Garfield with Tom Holland and wiped the Spider-Man film canon completely clean after just three years and nobody batted an eye.

I think early 30’s is about as young as they should go for the next actor.
With that in mind, my top choices would be Robert Pattinson or Armie Hammer.

Just imagine that jaw in a cowl :atp:

I just wonder if Pattinson would even want to do it.

It just seems to me that he's been avoiding blockbusters like the plague after the Twilight series.

Dude. Ryan Reynolds played the same character twice, in technically the same continuity, but they were completely different characters with completely different looks and storylines - and the audience made the second version the highest r rated movie of all time.

Affleck is gone. Nobody will care.

6ft 1.
Has demonstrated a high level of acting talent in recent years.
Something a bit weird and twitchy about him.
Very handsome with a strong chin.
Used to working on large budget movies.

Warner Bros. executive: who should play Batman now that Affleck is out?

Some guy: how about Joseph Cannata, the breakout star of Christmas with a View?

He’d have time to put on some muscle too if they’re shooting for spring or early summer :woot:

I definitely want a leaner Batman this time though.
I think Pattinson would fit that look well.
