Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 6

Just... no. That completely alters both the dynamic between Bruce and Jason, and undercuts the themes of the story. Stop trying to crowbar classic Batman stories in to fit Snyder’s awful, murdery characterisation.
Except it doesn't and remains absolutely faithful to the spirit of their relationship, their dynamic and the themes of the story, for one.
And if you want a slavish adaption of the story, go watch the animated one which does a suberp job of translating it to a screen pretty much bit for bit. Because you'll never get exactly that on the silver screen; filmmakers always alter the source material that they even adapt in the first place.
Also, you are being a huge hypocrite for rejecting Batfleck while being such a huge fan of Nolan's & Bale's Batman that in BB (and throughout TDKT) is EXACTLY just as murderous as Snyder's & Affleck's was (don't even attempt to argue this).

Affleck was a bad Batman, there's no way but up from there. Also what's up with all the doom & gloom, this film isn't out until 2021. When BvS was meant to open in July 2015, Batman wasn't cast until August 2013. I see no reason why Reeves using the time he has is such a bad thing, especially since Suicide Squad 2 is only so far ahead because James Gunn is shooting Guardians 3 in 2020, so that film might be pushed up to late 2020 if he wraps up post on time.

Affleck the only one to 100% look both parts. He was great in BvS and horrendous in Justice League (the Batman portions, Bruce was ok). Wish he had gone out on a higher note.

Ben was ****ing amazing in BVS. You all know it’s true. He sucked in Justice League though. Weird how he went from being one of the greatest Batmen to one of the worst.

Affleck was a perfect Batman in theory, it's the script that let him down.

His performance but more particularly how he looked and moved was fantastic and how I always imagined him to be. He's easily the most physically accurate Batman to date

It's what happens when the director you believe in as an actor is replaced and a f-house of f-uppery takes it's place, you lose focus and belief in your part and the overall concept.

In alphabetical order:

Armie Hammer
Christopher Abbott

You must be the only person in this thread aside from Manasrepublic that unironically supports the Stellar idea. :funny:
Like I said, I don't hate it. Dude's not conventionally good-looking, but then again neither was Keaton. He's a great actor, and him getting the part would intrigue the hell out of me.

Still, I confess he's more of a "morbid curiosity" pick. If it's true that Reeves hasn't even started the casting process yet, then I'm firmly back in the Abbott camp.

The problem with Tellar for me it's not only that he's ugly but he has a face that's extremely punchable.

Affleck as Batman is very much what Garfield as Spiderman and Dalton as Bond were.

They were actors beloved by diehard fans for their performances, but ultimately, didn't resonate with the GA.

I'd say all three are probably alot closer to what the diehard fans had envisioned for the parts ,yet ,they didn't connect on an emotional level with the majority of filmgoers, and thus weren't beloved in the role by the GA.

All three were saddled with weaker scripts and films, all three followed popular actors in the role previous i.e. Bale, Maguire, and Moore, and all three ended their tenures with polarizing film entries of JL, ASM 2, and License to Kill.

In the end, all three pretty much left their roles with a wimper and a meh attitude as far as the GA goes.

Imo ,Affleck is very much the comic fans Batman while Bale and Keaton are much more of the GA's audiences Batman .

Goddammit I really wish that Abbott didn't have puppy eyes because otherwise I'd jump on that train as well

Gotta disagree with all diehard fans loving affleck. Im a diehard batman fan and I found affleck to be boring. For me, Christian Bale is still the best on screen Batman

Well I should make clear when I say diehard comics fans, I'm literally talking about those who are fans of the comics who liked they way Affleck looked, fought , and was portrayed. I separate them from the those who are more casual Batman fans and the GA.

I'd say there's a good chuck of diehard comic fans who loved Affleck as Batman, though I wouldn't go as far as saying all, but I could see now how I wrote it could give that impression. There were diehard comic fans who didn't like that version due to the "no killing" rule and other reasons, so I didn't mean to give the impression that all diehard fans liked Affleck, but certainly alot did.

But then again, you had the same dynamic in that alot of diehard comic Spiderman fans loved Garfield's Spiderman and alot of diehard fans of the Fleming Books loved Dalton's version of Bond.

I won’t attempt to argue, because we’ve all done it long before you came along, Mr Tuesday... and we won. Feel free to troll the archives.

This is all entirely anecdotal. You have zero proof ‘a good chunk’ of die hard comic book fans loved Batfleck. You certainly wouldn’t find evidence of it on this forum. I’d argue that it’s a minority of big Batman comic fans who like Batfleck... at least going by what evidence I’ve seen here, and in other places in the three years since BvS came out.

The main consensus I’ve seen has always been: Affleck absolutely looked the part, but the characterisation was bad, as were all the movies he was in.

But if The Batman follows the Marvel model of Captain Marvel with this film taking place in the past with it taking place like in the 90s in terms of timeline continuity just like what Captain Marvel did then I think that that is an interesting way to go about doing things but then the issue lies: if you plan on doing sequels then how do you translate that Batman into present day? You would almost have to get another actor to play the role in present day as a way to evolve from the past Batman in timeline continuity because then how would you explain why the new Batman looks all of a sudden younger than Gadot or Momoa or Cavill?

Die hard Batman and Spider-Man fan here; I did not enjoy either Affleck or garfield’s performances. In both cases, I blame the director, as I typically like both actors and was excited for Batfleck. But I can’t deny my perception, which is that we got the second worst Batman on film after Clooney. Ironically, I really do have to insert an asterisk for SS, which had arguably the most comic accurate Batman to date. But that was a very different Batman than I feel like what we got in BvS/JL.

Kroll made it sound like all those short-lists were BS, but I'd rather be back at square one then Nicholas Hoult and ATJ being the front-runners.
