Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

I would like to see Batman beyond, someone new playing Terry Mcginnis, and an older actor like Bruce Wayne.

If they don’t do the obvious Keaton reprisal, I’d love this suggestion for old Bruce:

Cuz only the biggest mega stars like Cruise or Smith are known by the general public right!?

Come on, you have to give ppl more credit than that.

You must live in quite the bubble if you think Josh Brolin is anywhere close to a household name.

I like Gosling, but I don't think he's a good fit for Bruce Wayne/Batman. He's better off not playing this role.

I don't think it'll be Jake, Gosling, or Hammer

Jon Hamm would be the ideal replacement

It would be dream casting but I know that Hamm has stated before that he's not interested in doing comic/superhero films

I think it’d be best if they just ignored Affleck hope for a “cool” way out.

Just go for a straight recast in the current timeline or do prequels with a younger actor.

Daulton is a good Alfred pick if they recast. Irons may be sick of his role too.

As of today, I'm starting to think Hammer isn't going to be cast either. Maybe he's Dick Grayson or Hal Jordan. But whether you believe it or not, John Campea said yesterday that he talked to a producer who said that Reeves wants a specific name for Batman and he doesn't know if they'll get him but Matt wants that actor. Campea then said he was surprised by the name, and may tell everyone in a couple of days but has to think about it due to the online backlash he got this year about the Batfleck stuff.

That tells me, it's probably not Hammer or anyone who is usually talked about. Let's think about actors who aren't too young or too old. Maybe late 30's or 40ish if it's just a recast. Armitage has been said a lot around here so who else?

I said I wasn't going to give to much thought to replacements when nothing is official, but screw it. I'm gonna throw a name out there that I haven't seen used very much, if at all, in this thread, and it might be a little off the beaten path, but...

Oscar Isaac?

The CBM role he most recently took on didn't really work, he probably won't be reprising it, his age (a fair amount younger than Ben, but still older than the rest of the League) works, he's got a good look for Bruce IMO, he's got gravitas coming out of his ears, he's not taller than Henry (for those of you who give a damn about height)... to me, the list goes on. The one hang-up is not knowing if Star Wars could potentially be a conflict.

But otherwise, that's a choice I'm kind of feeling at the moment.

I can dig it

Isaac can do intense and batman needs intense. Affleck always looked like he had taken a cocktail full of horse tranquillisers before he put the suit on

Been saying since July that Oscar Isaac should get the role. He'd be my first pick, at least. I'd also be all for Toby Kebbell too, since he did amazing work with Reeves as Koba in the Ape films.

But if I had to guess, I'm still thinking that Gyllenhaal is the guy that Reeves wants. Not saying that it will be him, but I heard some minor stuff a week ago that indicated people in the biz were hearing his name being tossed around for the part and then today, I noticed someone else at /r/dceuleaks say similar stuff and that the name of the actor they'd been hearing about started with the letter "J."

Take that all with a massive silo's worth of salt though. I'm not a professional film biz scooper myself.

I like Hammer and think he's one of those actors who hasn't had much roles where it shows off his talent. Like a Taylor Kitsch or something. It's more the movies and directing he has where it makes it seem he's bland but I truly think like most actors, they just need the right role where they can finally show off their strengths. No doubt Ryan Gosling would have been one of those actors if he was in the wrong movies. I'd totally be open to Hammer as Batman.

Like Jai Courtney in Suicide Squad. Wasn't much of him in the movie but performance wise he was interesting.

If we're going for older Batman still get Colin Farrell for God's sake. He would have been the best choice behind Bale if they didn't go with him in the Nolan films.

Guys, guys.

Am I nuts in having a hunch this mystery/unmentioned actor Reeves has in mind might even be Caviezel? Based on absolutely nothing, just somehow seems like the type he'd probably want for it. Clearly someone with a bit of history with fan-casting for the role, but if they're indeed replacing Affleck (and wanting to keep an older, mid-late-40s take):

"He is ze clear choice."

Heh. Besides the obvious Person Of Interest history, where John Reese pretty much is Batman, just think it might be the type of direction to go, if Reeves has much of a say in things tone-wise.

Really love the idea of Armitage too, especially since I didn't realize he was 6'2". Either of those guys would nail something with Reeves' tone, especially with that "smaller detective feel" he commented on. I do think less of a "name" than Affleck might be a good way to go, cut down on some of that movie-star baggage, get someone more around the status/awareness Bale was before Begins (or Cavill before MoS for that matter). Armitage and Caviezel fit right in that sweet spot, established actors with careers, but still sort of "Who?" among Joe & Jane average moviegoer. Plus keeping the actor somewhere around the same age as Ben's going to help smooth out the jarring nature of a re-cast, it'd feel a little weird somehow having Hammer or Gosling or Gyllenhaal or whoever after what's come so far.

Also, is there any more basis to go on that Affleck might be out? Or are we just going by JLA seeming to be a bit of a critical turd, added to his seeming lack of enthusiasm? I actually sorta like Ben for this particular take so far, but yeah, not sure I'd want him going forward for Matt's movie if indeed they're shaking up the tone and going somewhat smaller.

EDIT: Also, while I'd say keep Irons around, damn if Dalton isn't an awesome Alfred choice man.

A silo's worth of salt to be sure, but just for the fun of it, actors that start with "J" off the top of my head:

Jake Gyllenhaal
James Franco
James Marsden
Javier Bardem
Jeremy Renner
Jim Caviezel
Joaquin Phoenix
Jon Hamm
Josh Brolin

Rob Keyes from ScreenRant just posted this on Twitter:

Ben Affleck won't be in Matt Reeves' Batman movie(s). Reeves doesn't want him. I don't know the plans for #JusticeLeague sequel but don't be surprised if the age of Batfleck is over. THR was right long ago and reports aren't just "rumors" or speculation.

Won't it be fun when we don't have to speculate on this anymore?

My stance on Affleck from day one has been his celebrity completely overshadows the character.

Brolin is virtually a character actor who can blend into any role like MIB3 or the movie where he played President Bush.

His Celebrity doesn't overshadow his performance doh.
I didn't like the Idea of Affleck when he got cast but I thought for sure he'd pull off a better performance than Bale. He didn't And it had nothing to do with the way the character was written. It was his performance.

Brolin is a fantastic actor who would be a typically great Batman but that's not what I want. I want a Batman that's somewhere in-between Keaton and Bale's portrayal. For me, that guy isn't Brolin.
Plus, I'd rather see Brolin as a DC Villain cuz he hasn't played one yet. He's done one Hero and one Villain for MArvel and one Hero for DC. He's due to play a villain.

I'm gonna guess Jensen Ackles, Jude Law, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Josh Hartnett, Jared Padalecki, James D'arcy.
