Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

I'm a fan of Gyllenhaal, but I can't see him as Batman or Bruce Wayne... I've always see him as wormy guy.
You obviously haven't seen him in Southpaw or Enemy. Or even Prisoners.

But he would be a good Riddler or Joker too. He's too good for Riddler though.

Honestly, and maybe this is mean, I'd have a hard time buying him as brainy enough to play Riddler.
He's played intelligent characters, detectives in the past. I'm starting to think some of you guys have only seen a few of his films..

And I'm not even going to get deep into your other post. "Just there" ? "Not exciting" ? LOL huh? How can anyone watch Nightcrawler and be able to keep your eyes off of him? Brilliant performance. Dude is probably one of the most exciting and nuanced actors of his generation.

Choice of actor close in age to Affleck that will almost certainly not actually be our next Batman, but would be interesting to me nonetheless...

Theroux would make an awesome Batman, Two-Face, Joker or anyone to be frank. He also takes care of himself like an actual 40+ Batman would.

"Too good for Riddler"? If written properly Riddler is one of Batman's most fascinating and intriguing characters. The books are so inconsistent with the character, but when Riddler is well-written (Hush, for example), he is second to only Joker and maybe Two-Face in the rogue gallery.

On film, Riddler presents an opportunity to have a Bat-villain unlike any other, basically Batman's intellectual equal (and arguably superior). Every move Batman makes, Riddler should anticipate. He is a chessmaster. Basically the Littlefinger of the Bat-verse. In fact, come to think of it, Aiden Gillan would make a damn good Riddler. But I digress, if anything, Gyllenhaal is ill-equipped to play such an intellectually focused character.

I've watched Nightcrawler, I've watched him play detectives (a detective is not the same as intellectual, at least not the type one thinks of with Riddler). I never denied that he is a good actor. I've never denied that his performances are nuanced. I just find him unexciting. I've never said "**** YES! JAKE GYLLENHAAL IS IN A MOVIE!" and think I would fairly hard pressed to find a lot of people who have.

Come back to me when you've actually watched more of Jake's movies because you sound uneducated about what he can do or what he has done as an actor.

Riddler has that potential yes, but I still don't like the character that much.

Fair enough. I disagree. I stand corrected if you've seen his work.

I think I've watched just about every major film he has been in. I'm sorry I'm not crushing on him as hard as you are. But to say I sound "uneducated" because I don't find "Jake's" (you two on first name basis?) performances as riveting as you, ignores just how subjective this topic is and frankly, makes you come off as a bit of a condescending, pompous, ass.

I'd be okay with this as well. :D

No. When I said you sound uneducated, I was talking about your quote about Jake being ill equipped to play such an intellectually focused character. I stand by that because I think he has played those types of characters. And even if he hasn't. He has the chops to play that kind of character in the future.

At the end of the day, Jake is a million times better than Affleck who can barely act his way out of a paper bag when he's not being pushed to the extreme.

 Not all actors are suited for all types of roles. I wouldn't say Aidan Gillen, whom I mentioned a few minutes ago, is well suited for a largely physical role, such as Bane. That's not a swipe at him as an actor. Just a reflection that he is not right for every role. Just as your BFF "Jake" is not right for every role.

And, again, saying someone sounds uneducated over an entirely subjective measurement (such as critiquing an actor) is pompous, condescending, and, to be quite honest, uneducated on your part (as it fails to recognize how subjective this matter is).

Sooo anyway, if we're going older Batman, what about Karl Urban? The dude is so effin intense. His glare is what I'd imagine a fist's facial expression would be, right before it slugs someone.

You're talking to someone who's seen everything. I've seen all three you listed there. :funny:

Loved him in Prisoners, but I don't see it.

I like Jakey G as Batman because I feel like it's the closet I'll get to Billy Petersen as Will Graham as Batman.

He'd look great in the cowl.

Yeah, I am not sure I can buy him as Bruce, but if this were an Arkham Asylum adaptation, where 90 % of the movie is him in suit, he’d be my top choice.

Looking through this last page...just...

Gyllenhaal is a fine choice. He's a great actor and he looks the part enough.

Why is it so hard to find tall, black-haired, blue-eyed actors?
