Batman & Robin

Yeah I'm about the same age as BatmanForNever, for my generation B89 is pretty much the first significant Batman thing. Also the significance of the animated series on our perception on this film cannot be overstated. "Heart of Ice" was incredible. The villain pathos on almost every episode was phenomenal, but on that one they took a worthless dude and made you really say "wow." So when we saw this incarnation you could see us not enjoying it. Also I'm sure there are a sizable number of folks thought the lack of stong environmental rhetoric from Ivy, even when compared to the animated series, was unfortunate. Basically I say again that it was precedent that ruined this for folks my age, we were inundated with such good adaptations so early that we could not accept the regression.

I mean Batman fighting martians? Come on.

It's funny because I have read a few of my dads old books and the one always remember as the representation of the craziness of that era is the one where B and R go to the space Olympics, on the cover is Bats fighting a martian (or maybe a robot can't remember.)

Whats wrong with Batman fighting aliens he does that now anyway. Darksied anyone.

THANK YOU. I was just about to post that. So Batman fights an alien on a tv show or movie and th world flips. He does it in the comics...it's okay. Come on people. Also Batman is on a team with a Martian!!! Did we just choose to ignore that??

well, sometimes things that are in the comics dont always translate well onto film or tv.

Batman never fought an alien on tv or movies except JLU which is a cartton so its fine and also is great fight scenes.

I dunno, Superman works well with all that alien stuff. Batman has always been more grounded in reality.

So you don't think Batman works well with Superman in any format?

Because he's an alien. Or Batman workin' with the JL?

That's cool if you don't, just really don't understand your reasoning for it not working in anything at all.

Some people think Batman should just fight gangsters/mobsters and corrupt officials.

It was better than Superman IV.

The biggest/ funniest flaw in this movie is that Alfred created a plastic moulded coustume to his niece's exact measurements. How'd he get them? And how did he feel when creating the butt and breasts?
ANYTHING is better than that. :o

Also, talk about planning ahead. He suspected that Barbara would find the Batcave so he created a suit for her.

The concept of nuclear man was fine...it was the execution that went wrong.

I think the whole thing was just terrible. Just use as actual Superman villian.

I've heard that Nuclear man was initailly supposed to be Bizarro, the concept isn't that far off, Luthor trying to create his own Superman. I only have the dvd of IV with no extras so don't know if this is said on the Special edition dvd.

As for Batman and Robin, there is one scene I really love from this movie that could have come from a good B&R movie, the car chase on the man arm bridge. I also like ths sky dive at the start.
I can't sit through the movie though, even for a laugh, I think you can get more laughs out of Nuclear man.
The one scene that really does my head in in B&R is the scene where the cops are all freezing in Freeze's HQ and Gordon is struggling to turn the thermo back up. How anyone could think that would be a thrilling scene is beyond me, it's just a big drag of nothing.
The only good thing about the movie is the sfx, the CGI is pretty good and better than some that you get in some modern superhero movies.

The deleted scenes show that there were originally two different Nuclear Men. The first one was created in Lex's lab, he came out a moron, could barely talk, flew by flapping his arms, was an idiot, and had goofy looking hair.....he was very close to being Bizzaro.

Apart from the ability to fly he sounds just like the other Nuclear man from that description. I wonder why they both turned out to be morons/idiots and didn't inherit any of Supes super-intelligence, maybe Luthor meddled with them so he could control them more easily, they didn't have a chance without having a brain to match their powers.
I have to see those deleted scenes.

btw Bizarro has just the one 'z' and two 'r's

Then they should of had him be called Bizarro instead of Nuclear Man.

They were nothing alike except having super powers.

The fist one was about 6'6", no physical muscular definition, had spikey two toned hair, the makeup used for him gave his face a pale look with dark areas of shading around cheeks eyes and such, he spoke in a childlike voice, giggled and laughed at everything, and all his scenes were played as comedy.

The second one was shorter, had a rather normal for the era haircut, had a muscle builders physiche, his face looked normal, although he spoke in Lex's voice he talked like an adult, he wasn't amused by anything, and all his scenes were serious.

They didn't have Superman's intelligence, because they were created through a cloning process as adults (the first one through use of a nuclear powered chamber, the second by the power of the sun directly). Intelligence is something learned and nurtured over years...they didn't have that.

I remember they said Brainiac and Myx was gonna be the villians in Superman 3.

Superman IV is on uk tv today , the description on the digital guide is kind of strange: ' The Man of Steel is threatened by the deadly android - Protean Man, Lex Luthor's latest evil creation.'

:facepalm

Batman fighting aliens doesn't work in any format.
Man Batman has been through same insane crap in his day.I mean even some of Bat's classic villains aren't all that realistic.Man-Bat,Killer Croc,Mr.Freeze,Poison Ivy,Clayface and Ra's Al Ghul anyone?

Batman has had alot more sci fi and horror elelments than people seem to remember, or care to acknowledge. It seems to me that the whole movement to abolish this started back in 2005.
