Anybody changed their OW prediction after Jurassic World's 180+ million?

Jurassic World will probably break the OW record. But BvS's predictions should not be affected by JW's opening. I think the Easter record will be the first target basically.

Jurassic World has surprised everyone, I knew it would open well but this has blown every expectations.

I imagine BvS won't come close but it'll be the highest DC film of all time.

I'm baffled by JW's gigantic opening. What are the factors, apart from nostalgia, that contribute to an opening THIS big?

No one knows, some factors are:

- Jurassic Park was a major cultural phenomenon in the 90s and kids who grew up with it have kids of their own to experience it on the big screen with
- Enough time has passed that people don't remember the subpar sequels, so this movie effectively acted as the sequel
- AOU underperforming left a vacancy open for "movie which captures the pop culture zeitgeist". If AOU had broken the OW record and been on par with the first movie, this big an opening for JW wouldn't have happened
- No dinosaur movies have been made in the past 10+ years, there is something to be said for seeing dinosaurs on IMAX on the big screen.

Actually, if anything, this has shown that BvS could very well break many records. No one saw this coming, and considering BvS is much more anticipated, and has far less in the way of competition, best believe it will make gang busters. Lastly, considering the highest grossing DC film is TDKR, which had a 160 mill opening(No 3d and the shooting btw), and JW is projected to make between 180 - 200 mill, it would be reason to guess based on your assessment, BvS will come close, as a 20 mill-ish diff isn't that far off.

^ Good points, fake.

I suspect the first and last points to be the most significant. As Mrs.Wayne said, dinos are the ****.

That is why this thread is Box Office PREDICTION than ESTIMATION. We can only predict the numbers before the film is out and not estimate it. Prediction can be 100% accurate and can also be 100% s.h.i.t. :hehe:

Universal also marketed it EVERYWHERE. There wasn't a TV show that I watched or product I've seen/bought that didn't have a Jurassic World ad on it.

I have zero interest in JW but tbh I was never a fan of JP either.

JW's spectacular OW has me excited for the possibilities of BvS's OW and box office run in general...if JW can do this kind of box office carnage then what is a bigger property and much more anticipated movie like BvS going to do...I'm raising my WW box office prediction for BvS from 1.2 billion to 1.5 billion.

I think JW means that SW will be even bigger than people imagine but I'm not sure what it means for BvS.

I have a feeling it'll be very much the same with Batman v Superman in the near future. I can't imagine WB won't push this thing as hard as they can.

The hype train hasn't even truly begun for BvS. It's going to be BIG.

Jurrasic World appeals to a much larger and general audiences which is why it has had such a strong opening week.

I expect Batman V Superman to be big, but part of me thinks we should stop trying to predict OW and box office records. Especially if it's a movie that takes on a more serious tone and (hate to say this) intelligent approach. It could completely alienate a lot of families from watching.

Im not quite ready yet to say a billion is in the bag. I want to hear who ( and if ) the physical threat is, and see more footage with some big action shots first.
I do feel confident in saying ( at this point ) that 850 mill is very likely.

A billion is almost a guarantee, given the international market has grown exponentially, and BvS won't have any competition for weeks. BvS will also be the first major blockbuster to be released after Star Wars debuts 3 months earlier, so people will be hungry for a blockbuster. I have to say the real question is how north of a billion it will go.

A Billion in itself isn't that shocking now a days.

True. Its definetly possible. China has really opened up.

This movie can't be more serious than both dark knight movies which both opened to 160 mil
You can't underestimate batman alone with the hype for this movie and the event it kills me how things, can factor in for every other movie but a,DC movie the bias really is there

So with the insane success of Furious 7 and the record breaking weekend Jurassic World had, I'm following up on box office ranks more than ever now. And to be honest, Star Wars is going to be the ultimate test for the two movies I just mentioned. Now with those box office monsters settled in place by March 2016, I can safely say that I have no clue where BvS is gonna rank. I feel it will pull over a billion, and I will feel much more comfortable backing that once we get another trailer or two under our belts. I can see top ten happening, but I don't see a top five spot or anything like that. The movies that rank there now and will most likely rank there by March are simply iconic. And while I want BvS to succeed, I feel like the audience is still pretty narrow for this film.

So is batman
But I think Batman is bigger he's the main reason why I know this movie will open up to 190+ but most likely 200+

Jurassic Park is a cult favorite though, as is the Star Wars franchise. And people know that this isnt Nolan. So I dont think you can just say "Batman sells". Because this isnt some super popular franchise, and the movie is tied more closely with MOS than it is with the characters themselves.
