You know since the release and insane box office of Star Wars 7 i have a feeling that more and more folks are not only interested more interested in the movie going experience but are going to be craving to see what the next major film event will be like BvS, Therefore i'm now pegging it now at:

OW: $195M
DOM: $500M
INT: $900M ($200M from China)
WW: $1.4 Billion

And that's if the reviews are good at like 70% on RT and a cinema score of A for it's box office legs.

Now that's about a realistic estimation i say.

Why do I want this to reach $1 billion?
I don't expect it to soar too high above $900 million.

If its only just ok, it will prolly still hit a billion. If its good to great 1.1 to 1.4 billion.
I was thinking before that the ow record was possible also but I highly doubt it can beat the new sw opening record. now that was lightning in a very large bottle.
Still, if bvs can get a 200 mill opening that will be great.

Quick question but which kind of great are we talking here for BvS? Like great with the critics I.E. Rotten Tomatoes or great with the audience I.E. CinemaScore? Because if BvS gets like a 70% in RT but a score of 'A' on CinemaScore then past a billion should be viable honestly.

Plus yeah, no film is gonna surpass the Star Wars 7 OW in years lol.

Catwoman, B&R, Transformers 4 etc are god aweful. Putting JW in that same bracket is kind of bizarre.

Would it have still grossed highly with crappy reviews? Probably, since the nostalgia effect was definitely in play. But, if it was a god aweful film, to climb as highly as it did? Doubtful.

I wouldn't say it was as bad as the movies you listed, but it was a bad movie none-the-less. They essentially re-made Jurassic Park (again) with cliché characters who made questionable desicions (even for a franchise known for this) and action and humor that fell flat. If BvS was of the same quality as JW, the critics would skewer it. It might still make a billion, though.

There's absolutely zero reason to believe BvS will somehow be treated unfairly in these technical aspects. What TFA and JW had in spades which I'm confident will be lacking in BvS is the charm and nostalgia factor. Those go a long way, but ultimately isn't enough to cover up poor filmmaking. Tthe TFA crew in particular still deserve all praise coming their way. BvS will gets theirs if it has earned it.

TFA was praised for its classical directing, excellent humor/action, and great introduction of a new cast. If BvS had even half of that acclaim, it'll do fine with critics.

Well to start off, he's not comparing TFA to BvS. He's comparing JW and BvS.

I somehow missed that.

Well then exclude the first part of my post and it still mostly applies. :o

All BvS needs is a minimum of 70% on RT and it'll do tremendous at the box office

I'm inclined to believe this too. TFA is ending the year of blockbuster cinema on a high, carrying well into 2016. Moviegoers will want to look forward to BvS. And any success on the part of BvS should buoy Civil War in turn.

I agree about SW, but JW to me was distictly lacking in "charm". Also, I don't think nostalgia and charm are qualities that BvS should have.

It would be kinda hard for BvS to play on the nostalgia factor in a brand new universe, anyway. Unless you're planning on doing a Reeves Superman, West Batman, Carter WW mashup...which I'd kill to see, mind you, in animated or Lego form.

All it needs to rely on is sheer entertainment from two iconic characters.

And if that's not enough, you get to see the greatest superheroine ever for the first time on the big screen.

Yeah this film has all the ingredients it needs along with its release date and weeks of no major competition in order to be a juggernaut at the box office.

Yep i say that BvS, CW and Rogue One are the three event films of the year.
