BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - Part 2

I'm really, really hoping that Gal Gadot shines brightly in BvS and that her standalone film is a great success. I think it well past time that a female superhero break out and become a major box office draw. I'm still disappointed that Perlmutter at the MCU put the kibosh on a Black Widow solo film. I know Feige no longer has to answer to Perlmutter, but still no BW film on the horizon as far as I know.

Well based on their popular respected names in the comic book community films like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash etc. which have already proven to be popular characters without the use of films should make a lot.

I mean not to start a DC vs Marvel conversation here but before their respected movies release Wonder Woman is a far more well known and famous brand as opposed to Ant-man, in fact a majority of the general audience who went to watch ant-man watched it due to the fact that it was in the MCU and related to the Avengers etc. WW should be a film that makes much more than Ant-man (proving it doesnt suck) mainly due to popularity of the character. so i say that $700M+ would be great.

Plus still to this day i stand by the fact that i believe that Wonder Woman is the most famous female superhero ever.

This opens things up to a world of unfair double standards in measuring success(that fans like to abuse in my experience). For example, Mad Max is far more known than Avatar was so based on that alone it should double maybe triple the standard set by the unknown latter etc.

There are a great deal more circumstances at play then how 'known' a comic book is before the fact. If rdj and the rest of the team were to show up in the ant man sequel...the new circumstance of said brand is apparent.
I get how a harry potter movie is supposed to be big, but when it comes to comic book stuff things get fickle. DD and Ghost Rider are super known at this point, their movies aren't necessarily supposed to be bigger then something like inhumans guest starring 3 avengers imo.
my take.

I do agree that there are other factors in play when judging a film's box office take.

Does anyone feel like the public perception of this movie has swung back to negative after the last trailer? I wonder if that will effect the box office.

And after they garnered so much praise after the Comic Con trailer, too(best trailer of the year imo). It should have been that trailer playing in front of Star Wars, not this last one imo. I was watching Star Wars and after the BvS played I heard some people in the row behind me say, "That looks so stupid." >_< I don't think the Comic Con trailer would have gotten that response.

No, from what I've observed, it appears the vast majority of the GA really likes the latest trailer. It appears that it was directed at the Marvel/ TF/ JW crowd and it got a good response at my theater (it was the only trailer to receive any response). I think, if anything, this trailer will boost the BO, despite us fanboys not being thrilled with it.

I actually don't hate it/think it was alrightish but I'm basing what I think on the response from social media, youtube personalities, and the theater where I saw Star Wars. It had basically no response part from the guy behind me saying how stupid it looked. I hope you're right, though.

Reactions to the BvS trailer shown for TFA seemed to be mixed. Some report a few of their audience snickering at it. But at least at my viewing of TFA, and another friend and people here report the same thing, there were actual gasps of excitement and ooh and ahs at the reveal of Wonder Woman.

My theory: The GA probably thinks the trailer is fine and is genuinely excited by WW. CBM fans that hate on the BvS (for whatever reason) however may be actively trying to poison the well with snide remarks, groans, etc. I don't see the latter reaction as the sort of thing the GA would do. Upon seeing something one doesn't like at the theater most people typically just inwardly shake their head, shrug, and be silent.

This is very possible. Not saying that BvS (or any other CBM for that matter) is beyond criticism from GA. But I could see haters using a movie theatre as a platform

That trailer was the cbm blunder of the year only behind FF. yes it did hurt the movie which is why we got some damage control from the production. i expect the next trailer and the final marketing push to reverse things though

I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed FF--a lot--for the things I did like about it, where it worked (first two thirds), and concur with Schnepp and Campea re: the final act that the film was completely taken out of Tranks' hands and inexplicably and horrifically butchered in post.

There was a kind of group-think, Lord of the Flies 'let's all pile-on' geek culture bashing for that film that was like a school of piranhas that had gotten the scent of a bleeding, injured animal in the water. But note that the catastrophic failure of that film did zip to slow down the momentum of the superhero genre craze. It's stronger than ever. People just shrugged and moved on.

For the GA I don't think that the recent BvS trailer did any harm at all. For nerds like us that live and breathe CBMs there was perhaps either mild disappointment or mixed feelings. It didn't quite measure up to the 10/10 epic first full length trailer from SDCC--that thing was a masterpiece, and one of the best trailers ever released. Which made it hard to top. It was going to be tough from the get-go for the next trailer to elicit the same euphoria.

But every time I watch the most recent trailer I am more engaged by it, and it makes me more curious about and eager to see the film.

Then again, I'm a hardcore fan. The GA that saw the trailer at the theater for TFA... i.e., by which I mean not the CBM nerd Synder haters that were most likely the outliers that went out of their way to be vocal by groaning or commenting negatively... but anyway, not them but the GA... if anything they probably reacted, 'oh wow, cool! Wonder Woman is in this thing! and she looks badass!' Plus the GA expects humor due to Marvel films, and they got a flavoring of that.

I don't think this trailer did any harm at all.

But for the buzz machine to be firing with full force they really should release one more trailer that comes closer to rivaling the SDCC one. Because then the love will be flowing again from CBM nerd blogs, vlogs, podcasts, and sites like this.

Look, this is Zack Snyder we're talking about. He's a lighting rod and that isn't going to stop, I don't think. Because he is a sophisticated artist, and a bold and visionary director. There will be bitter haters of this film no matter how good it is for those who love Snyder's work. I take that as a given. But I also still have great faith that Snyder will find the sweet spot with artistic creativity and mass market appeal. I actually don't even mind if the film is as artistically creative as 300, Watchmen, and MoS--if it is, personally I'll be ecstatic. But I hope that Zack can also bridge his ability to make extraordinary films like those three to a mega-blockbuster type of format. Because there is so much riding on the success of this film in the latter dimension, far above and beyond it just being "his" film as a director.

^ That in theater reaction footage that was floating around twitter and youtube say it all really. Regardless of what the GA feel there will always be hyperbolic cynicism on the net. Same happened with MOS.

I can give you a comprehensive review on why FF is as bad as people claim, and why the last minute defense for Trank is unfounded. But getting to the main point, controversy concerning the latest BvS trailer could actually help the film if it delivers. TFA did not have to be the best movie ever to be a huge success, just better than the prequels which it was. JW is not that great, but it brought the magic of JP back. Even if the GA thinks BvS is a mess, which I don't think; there's still a healthy chunk that don't know its happening yet, good reviews a week before release can turn all of it around. You'll be surprise how many less "haters" there will be for BvS or the DCEU if BvS gets a fresh rating.

I've read a lot of them. You can link it if you like. I'm hardly saying it's a perfect movie because it isn't (what film is?). But there are things I dug about it. For example, I liked the Ultimate FF take and the actors they cast for it. How does it explain that it looks like a completely different hand editing the film once they cross over into the N-zone?

Well for one, you aren't actually talking about the movie, rather things around the movie, like the "inspiration" and the actors cast. Not the film itself. But I would like not go off topic from this thread, so lets just agree to disagree.

Can you provide a link, please? I haven't seen what you're referring to.

not sure about posting bootlegged stuff, even if it's been released and ergo just youtube "Batman V Superman - Dawn of Justice Public Theater/Cinema Reaction Trailer #2"

It would be no trouble at all to cite specifically how the Ultimate FF concept is translated in the film, and what I liked about the performances, and my personal reasons for liking these things. But you're right that it is off topic for this forum. As you say, we can agree to disagree. :yay:

Talk about hyperbolic nonsense...trailer 2 was fantastic and the audience i saw it with responded very well to it especially when WW appeared...trailer 2 haters really have no clue when it comes to marketing...WB knows how to market their movies...that trailer was probably one of many that they thoroughly market tested with audiences and found that one to be the most effective before they released it...only a vocal small minority of fanboys on the internet seem to dislike it where as every one else thought it was awesome...that trailer did not in any way damage or hurt the movie...the link below shows some real reactions to the trailer!

^it's the age of the internet where the voice of the few attempt to speak for the many.
Mind you I'm watching that link and campea wax poetic back to back.
