I want both DC and Marvel to flourish. I want both of them films to be highly successful. I want Civil War to crack 2 Billion (Mainly to stick it to the people who think nobody gives a damn about Spidey anymore :cmad:)

It depends on how much the official drop is going from Saturday to Sunday. If Sunday's gross truly is $37M then I can see a Monday gross in the $15M range which is pretty reasonable.

Cheers.

Whoa.

Gotta say Poni, you've made the aftermath of this movie much more interesting with your insider knowledge and clear experience in this field.

You're also hilarious, lol.

Half the posts this weekend were from Poni_boy and we ALL got taste of how he really felt after Thursday night.

Fudgin those numbers to fit his narrative and apparent social experiment he was playing on you guys. He changed the direction of conversations left and right, using his inside knowledge to manipulate how he wanted it to go.

By Saturday, I just read and didn't indulge...you could read what he was up to. I wonder when the article on his website/twitter feed with these scientific numbers will drop to further illustrate his supposed proof???

Anyway, good riddance. The guy is intelligent, and I admire the heck out of his service. But he wouldn't know impartial if it bit him in the rear.

Pre sale tickets prior to the review release on Tuesday account for about 30 million. Even after the reviews hit the movie has been accounting for 2/3 of online ticket sales. While that does't directly correlate to a specific sales number it does irrefutably show that the movie kept selling fairly well after the embargo lifted and wom began to spread.

Still, regardless of how well the movie ends up doing, there is no denying that it could have done so much better. How much we will never know, but warners will definitely be taking the reaction to heart. As clear an image of what didn't work they also have a vivid picture of what did. Expect some retooling of the JL but no major delays.

 was this post even necessary?

Wait, Poni_Boys gone!?

Uh, thanks for your input.

Sorry, I don't understand what your saying.

I loved the film. I'm just commenting that it's ridiculously bad reviews may have actually had an unforseen positive effect on the box office.

I've been observing box office for some time now. The reviews really had little effect positive or negative on opening weekend. The movie grossed what it was tracking to gross. The tracking was 165-185.

Sorry to say the negative reviews boosted the box office is ridiculous, and by the Cinemascore you can see that many people weren't happy with the film.

SHH is a niche segment of the general movie going public. I get that a lot of Batman and Superman fans, and MOS fans were happy with this film. The fact remains a lot of people have problems with the film and everyone agrees those issues don't show up on opening weekend, especially when this film had so much presales business.

The $424 WW is a neat trick but it's just that. Almost all huge tentpole films stagger their release specifically so they can keep the WW BO train a rolling. Now if this film plays out like I think it shall based on the critics and the GA being meh about it then that would mean this is going to be one of the most front-loaded films ever. We shall see what next weekend holds.

Oh, look. Three psychopaths. Granted I'd say the title of American Psycho should be switched to the left.

A critically acclaimed BvS film say 75% RT and this thing grosses $190-$200M+ for the OW easily. The reviews did make a negative impact just not as much as people thought. There were many here who (after the embargo lifted) proclaimed the film would gross $130-$140M in the OW.

Critics are irrelevant to large movie box office.

29% RT score could not pull BvS down, the opposite will happen. People who were hesitant to see the movie because of poor RT score will go to see the movie because of the huge opening. This makes the RT score irrelevant.

It could pull down future WB movies... You can fool movie goers once, maybe twice, but eventually they catch on... WB needs to make quality films and stop producing garbage just because the audience will see it anyways because eventually they won't want to pay to see it...

I'm glad that there's a 400+ million opening. Some good news.

Also, thanks for all the skeptics to keep expectations at the minimal. I know you're not trying to be downers and have the best intentions, even telling us to keep our chins up for Civil War and cheering us all up with Sad Afflek. You are all exemplars of this fandom. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Yep, still finding a way to put a negative spin on this positive news.

How does that explain Pan, Cloud Atlas, Green Lantern, and Jupiter Ascending? You should know. They're all your movies :cwink:

Already, people aren't watching this movie because critics told them it wasn't quality. WB dosn't understand good quality. All they do is increase production value. Pay for multiple strong artists to do the score. Hire Academy Award winners for their cast and screen writer. Build amazing sets, weapons, and Batmobile. These guys don't care about making a good product...

The problem with this is it fell a lot more with movies it opened to the same amount with domestically.

Now that Poni_Boy has let slip that there are WB agents on this forum, allow me to say welcome, thanks for a fantastic film. Great on the opening weekend numbers...and let Zack Snyder finish what he started.

Thank you.

Nobody produces any content thinking it's not gonna be good. Now the definition of good varies depending on target audience, but what you wrote is just downright laughable.

As one who said that $400m WW was happening and that a billion was still on the table, the numbers are what I expected. These movies can be changed by what happens OS. It is why I said don't think a billion is off the table.

5 more millions and it would've been in the top 5 opening weekends. :/
