Batwoman BATWOMAN News & Discussion Thread

I have no idea if Kathy Kane was a lesbian. Being a creation from back in the 50s, I doubt it. I do know Kate Kane is a lesbian and I seriously doubt this character would be Kathy, as opposed to Kate.

Since they are scouting for an out lesbian, I think Kate is the one they're going for.

The costume looks great!

I hope that's not what they are going for! Please oh please oh please be sarcastic!! Or just some retail wear!
There is nothing wrong with just slightly toning down the comic version. Plus, it's way too Spider-Gwen!

As for where is will be set, I hope it is Earth 38. There has been reference to the Bats on there, but no mention of Bruce Wayne unlike on Earth 1. So she could slip right into those references without trouble, and do I recall correctly that in some comics she takes up the mantle because Bruce her brother/cousin(?) is already crippled? Or she could be a protege, but of an aging Batman who wants put up the cape.

Has any of the mentions of Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse ever mention how old he is?

As to the tone of the show, I would prefer the Black Lightning style over SG, or at least the Flash. Anything related to Batman/woman needs to be dark and gritty, it's just part of the make-up.

And if they do any relationships then I hope is the steady kind, like Barry and Iris and Lois and Clark and not 'the pick of the week,' like James Bond... Real tired of the 'will they/ won't they' schtick.

I had hoped that she and our girl Alex would be an item, but since they are going for an entirely separate show then I think that's out of the question. Unless Chyler did double duty between both shows... hmmmm....

....
I think let Kathy Kane develop and then later on introduce Rene. Either don't give KK a love interest at first, or give her a different one.

I'm not big on the comics, but wasn't her love interest also a past love interest? Something that started years earlier but ended and they came back to it again?

Something like in Batman Begins with Bruce and Rachel. They knew each other when they were younger, Kate's world gets turned all around and she drops out of sight only to return a few years later as the Dark Knightress.

The CW writers don't have a lot of choice when they must write more than 20 episodes a season.

Plus, I assumed Batwoman was a Sara Lance scenario; not much into long-term commitment.

I think a lot will be determined by where it is shooting. Black Lightning gets to be a bit more autonomous in it's creative team because they are based in Atlanta. If they are going to be shooting in Vancouver, with everyone else, it quite likely will be Earth 1 and a bit more similar to the other shows.

How much like Batman is this going to be? Because I don't want this to just be Batman stories but with a woman. It would feel too stale otherwise.

Supergirl was essentially Superman stories and that more or less worked for the first season at least.

I wonder how they will dodge the whole question of where Batman is in this universe. At least with Supergirl we know Superman is around Metropolis instead of National City but Gotham is Batman's town.

I just can't see how this works out without a proper Batman influence/appearance.

Even Supergirl had the presence and mentions of Superman from the get-go.

TBH, I could see Batwoman existing in either Arrow or Supergirl's universe, without the existence of Batman. Hell, even Supergirl could've went this route because of her origin and having the "S" still would've led her to be superhero and might've given her a MOS-type scenario for example.

I've been saying this for a long time now: but for the New 52, and now for their Earth One GNs and now their DCEU, they can make a version of Nightwing WITHOUT the existence of Batman, or at least in his life. You can picture Dick's origin and moving on, becoming a cop, and finding his parent's killer and avenging them as Robin. Then once that gets finished, then you mention a Dark Knight in Bludhaven's sister city of Gotham, then Nightwing gets born. Same thing could even be applied to Red Hood, because in both cases, Batman wouldn't be the only guy who gets the idea of fighting crime in a crime-filled city of Gotham. And yes, that's the same thing here for Batwoman.

Her origin is a tragic one involving kidnapping and murder of her family members with the exception of her father. If you changed this, you can easily say that after her mother and sister were killed, and she was next, the killers were attacked by bats which scared them, and ultimately led to Kate's escape and rescue (whether her father and the army were there at that moment is up in the air). Not only was she saved by the bats, she would think it was fate that she was saved at all; and because the killers were scared of these things, its easy to see her using this to create an alter-ego crimefighter with a bat symbol. See? It does work.

I will say that with Batwoman coming, and with Gotham ending (and Arrow too? Has anyone thought of that?) maybe Batman will be coming to TV. Who knows. Its been said the next crossover will feature Gotham, and its very multiple choice if it means set in Arrow's universe, Supergirl's, or its own entirely.

All I do know is that I'm very excited for this, which is funny. I hardly if not ever watch TV shows, and I had never seen Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, or any Marvel Netflix show pass Daredevil Season 1. Yet excited for this lol.

PS I don't know what people will say, but in terms of both the costume and actress, here you go:

Hope it leads to a Batman Beyond spinoff next.

Supergirl was essentially Superman stories and that more or less worked for the first season at least.

But Batman has been in more live action with more of his rogues gallery featured. His origin has been constantly retold.

For Superman, it's mostly been Lex Luthor, Zod, and then a bit of Bistro (because he's easy to do) and sometimes Braniac. On the big screen it's only ever been Lex, Zod or Nuclear Man.

I don't know what's going to happen, I'd say the logical thing they would do is to try and find Bat villains who haven't played much of a part in live action before. But then again, with the 60's show, the movies, as well as Gotham, we're more or less at the point where we've exhausted the rosters of A, B and C list rogues. Unless they just develop something new, which might be the best way to go.

I meant Bizarro btw not Bistro. Autocorrect strikes again!

Its been confirmed and will be dived into during SDCC 2018, that Batwoman will get her own series after she debuts in the Arrowverse this fall

I honestly wish they would stop adding people to the Arrowverse, Black Lightening is standalone and I believe they were the better for that

Yaaaaaas I can’t wait! I hope it’s awesome!

I wonder if Evan Rachel wood would ever do tv? I suppose if the script was interesting enough.

Is she a lesbian?

Why does the actress actually have to be lesbian? They might find it more difficult finding exactly the right person who looks like the character and can act if it's too narrow. Are they looking for an established star or will they accept even a complete unknown?

That's exactly what I thought... and all the more brilliant if it does go that way.

We got robbed of our World's Finest by Snyder and co, so I'd love to see it done by Berlanti instead.

so with the legends not appearing in the crossover i guess one of the four episodes (probably the first) will be a backdoor pilot for batwoman.

edit: never mind, it's most likely only a 3 episode crossover.

Well, hopefully the crossover will play up the World's Finest angle with Supergirl featuring more prominently. But I feel that it will probably skew more towards Arrow because of a similar tone.

I don't want Green Arrow still feeling like the main man and everyone having to play second fiddle to him, even if his show was first. Sometimes it almost feels like everyone defers to him just because of his brooding attitude.

I hope Batwoman doesn't think much of Arrow.

And I heard that the Legends won't be in the crossover this year. I guess they might not fit into the tone of the story?

Well, Supergirl more or less was the version of Superman we should have gotten, so it stands to reason we'll get the right World's Finest story with these two.

I'm guessing there's no plans to put Batwoman on the big screen? But what about Batgirl? Is that still happening? Could she even show up here? Will it be confusing?

I wonder if the Huntress (from Arrow) will ever show up. Not that she was a great character but more of a serial killer.
