BBC Shows

I hope Clarkson and Hammond and May continue to work together on some other program.

Top Gear is reportedly still going on although I did not see any word on whether Hammond or May (who previously tweeted he was an ex-television presenter) would be coming back.

Deborah Meaden was suprisingly funny in Murder in Successville

I wonder if the BBC will comission a new fantasy/supernatural show to fill in that Merlin/Robin Hood/Atlantis spot.

I think they will just stick with Doctor Who.

I would love to see them co-produce a Captain Britain or Union Jack show with Marvel but I doubt it will happen.

Any news on something along the lines of Utopia, since that isn't coming back... or a second series of Glue?

I'm watching Catastrophe and it is really funny. Reminds me a little bit of You're The Worst but has the baby spin on things. The "you put my penis in your mouth, but you won't let put my t-shirts in your drawer?" might be the best thing I've heard in years.

I just got My Mad Fat Diary, going to check that out soon.

Some people are comparing channel 4/AMC show Humans to Utopia but I don't really see it.

No word on another season of Glue.

No longer directly related but the latest rumor is again that Jeremy, James and Richard is will be doing a Top Gear series on Netflix.

That's what I've heard as well. Hope it happens and the series is good. If Netflix could acquire the Stig too that'd be perfect.

BBC should have never sacked Jeremy. I've zero interest in a Top Gear without Jermey, James, and Richard.

The Last Kingdom premieres Saturday, October 10 at 10/9c.

This historical drama comes from BBC America, BBC Two and the Golden Globe® and Emmy® award-winning producers of Downton Abbey, Carnival Films. The series is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling series of books “The Saxon Stories”, by BAFTA nominated and RTS award-winning writer Stephen Butchard.

Alexander Dreymon (American Horror Story, Blood Ransom) heads up the cast, which also includes Rutger Hauer (True Blood, Blade Runner), David Dawson (Ripper Street, Road to Coronation Street), Emily Cox (The Silent Mountain, Circle of Life), Matthew Macfadyen (Anna Karenina, MI-5), Ian Hart (Boardwalk Empire, The Bridge), Tobias Santelmann (Kon-Tiki, Hercules-The Thracian Wars), Thomas W. Gabrielsson (A Royal Affair, The Killing III), Peter Gantzler (A-klassen, Italian For Beginners), Joseph Millson (Penny Dreadful, 24:Live Another Day), Alexandre Willaume (Deadline, Over the Edge), Rune Temte (Ulykken (The Accident), Johan Falk: Organizatsija Karayan), Henning Valin Jakobsen (The Bridge, The Killing). Young cast members include Tom Taylor, Jocelyn Macnab and Madeleine Power.

Set in the 9th century AD, many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Vikings, only the great Kingdom of Wessex stands defiant under its visionary King Alfred the Great (Dawson). It is the last kingdom.

Against this turbulent backdrop lives Uhtred (Dreymon). Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is orphaned by the Vikings and then kidnapped and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested. What is he — Saxon or Viking? On a quest to claim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides if he is to play his part in the birth of a new nation and, ultimately, recapture his ancestral lands.

The Last Kingdom is a show of heroic deeds and epic battles but with a thematic depth that embraces politics, religion, warfare, courage, love, loyalty and our universal search for identity. Combining real historical figures and events with fictional characters, it is the story of how a people combined their strength under one of the most iconic kings of history in order to reclaim their land for themselves and build a place they call home.

Anyone watch Top Copper?

It is a pretty funny show. I like the emotionless Scandinavian forensic scientist and the stereotypical police chief.

New show on the way.

BBC Greenlights Epic Event Series ‘Troy – Fall Of A City’ http://deadline.com/2015/09/bbc-orders-troy-fall-of-a-city-david-farr-kudos-1201544452/ …

BBC One is already partnered with David Farr on its star-studded upcoming AMC co-production, The Night Manager. The network is again teaming with Farr for an ambitious new drama, Troy – Fall Of A City. Produced by Humans maker Kudos for the BBC, the multi-part series will retell the fall of Troy from the perspective of one family.

Derek Wax (Humans) and Farr will exec produce for Kudos; Matthew Read is exec producer for the BBC. Casting is still to come in 2016.

Described as an epic tale of love, revenge, intrigue and bloodshed, it’s set against the backdrop of the war between Greece and Troy and focuses on the collapse of one family.

It will go back to the saga’s origins: the judgment of Paris, his passionate elopement with Helen, and the ill-starred prophecy surrounding his birth.
When the baby Paris is born, the omens foretell that he will bring about the downfall of the city. Queen Hecuba and King Priam are forced to choose whether to abandon their newborn son to the wolves or save him, but risk the safety of their kingdom. Their choice will decide not only the fate of their child, but the very existence of Troy.
Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One says, “David Farr’s bold and visceral rendition of the 3,000 year old story, told across multiple parts and for the first time from the Trojan point of view will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen on BBC One before.”
Farr, who wrote the screenplay for feature HHHH, which is currently shooting with Jason Clarke, adds, “The story of Ilium, the ancient city of Troy, has always gripped me. Fall Of A City aims to convey in all its emotional richness, the effects of war, and the toll taken on city and family by the horrors of siege. Though one of Europe’s oldest stories, it could not be more sadly pertinent today.”

'This Is England' (This Is England '90) is back? Hell yeah...

Anything else back on or new on C4 I need to check out? Their website is hard to pic things out between old shows and US shows they re-broadcast.

I'm checking out Witnesses. Is No Offence good? The cast looks great (from a lot of shows I've seen), but it seems to be 'procedural'.

Also, how is Top Boy?

Top Boy is awesome. The director of many of the episodes also directed the film 71 starring Jack O'Connell from Skins which got great reviews.

No offence was ok. I watched the first couple of episodes. The show is a comedy drama with an over arching mystery about a serial killer who kills down syndrome girls.

Dickensian sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

I'm always down for a little Greek mythology so yes to Troy.

And Then There Were None is my favorite Christie novel so I'd like to watch that too.

Holy ****, holy ****ing ****.

That episode 3 of This Is England '90 was one of the finest pieces of television ever. The acting, oh my.

Also, I am sad but related Shane is 'ending' the series next week. I didn't know that until tonight... but, we do get 90 minutes as well.

If Milky kills Combo, I'm going to rage.

The dinner scene was heartbreaking. This Is England is one of the most entertaining yet depressing shows on TV.

I've enjoyed TiE '90. Not nearly as depressing as TiE '88 was.

This Is England finale was outstanding and wonderful wrap up to the series...

Also, **** Milky. I'll never forgive that piece of ****.

Milky's guilt seems like it has alienated him from his friends. I think Milky was genuinely regretting his decision when the guys turned up to take Combo away but it was too late to back out as he said promises had been made.

Glad Kelly made it out ok.

Trailer for War & Peace starring Paul Dano, Lily James, Jim Broadbent, Gillian Anderson and James Norton.
