BBC Shows

World War Two and the Victorian era are seemed to be loved by the BBC.

Most contemporary supernatural shows seem to flop for the some reason. Even the good shows like Fades or Ultraviolet can't make it past one season.

I haven't seen it yet, but I wonder what the consensus is on the new Beeb America show called Intruders after it's first episode last night...

At least some of their new shows, like Peaky Blinders and The Musketeers, seem to be shaking things up a bit.

Oh, I can understand why they'd want to set the show in the past, but it could've taken place in the 1900s or 1910s, or farther back in the 19th century, say, the 1840s. So many shows seem to be stuck in the late 1880s /early 1890s.

It probably has to do the popularity of the spiritualism movement in the Victorian era I imagine which was at its height around that period.

Chamber, anything else I need to check out...?

Utopia S2 was amazing, I watched all of Black Mirror, of course I'm a Sherlock/Luther/Skins freak.

I tried Peaky Blinders and Ripper Street, I couldn't finish them and I love stuff around history and such, I don't know why... I figured I'll go back at some point.

But, I do want to try something new...

Line Of Duty is pretty awesome if you want to check that out antsman41.

Line of Duty follows a internal affairs unit as they investigate corrupt cops. Each season focuses on one police officer.

There are lots of twists and turns. Season two, episode one has one of the best opening and closing scenes from TV show I've ever seen.

E4 (the channel that made Skins) has new show Teen murder mystery show coming out called Glue. The show was written by Jack Thorne who worked on Skins, The Fades, This Is England and Shameless UK. Thorne is also co-writing the Sandman movie for WB.

You can see the NSFW trailer on Youtube.

Another beautiful episode of Glue, this show is just stunning. Love the actress plaint Tina, she's really awesome.

I'm dying to check out glue, it sounds really amazing

The Missing episode 1 was great... intense 'kidnapping' mini-series.

That Glue finale was crazy

Oh my... never saw that coming.

This season was fantastic, such great storytelling and performances.

Do you know if this was intended as a mini-series or will there be more ala Skins or a traditional '2nd season'?

I don't know if there will be another season. E4 is probably willing to give the show another season if the ratings are ok.

Jack Thorne is pretty busy adapting fantasy novel Shadowland into a event series with David Goyer for NBC and he is writing Sandman for WB as well so I guess if he ahas the time he would do another season.

Holy ****... The Missing is so great. This episode's car chase was better than any movie's this year. And, that creepy creepy ending... oh my.

SS-GB is a thriller set in 1940s London under the premise that the Germans won the Battle of Britain and London is under Nazi occupation.

"Archer is a Scotland Yard detective working under the SS facing the dilemma of whether to effectively collaborate or join the resistance," according to a show description. It also says that the drama is "an explosive thriller that will ask: What would you do, faced with stakes as high as this?"

The Fall is returning for a third season.

Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan will both return to the show as Stella Gibson and her nemesis Paul Spector respectively.

I saw this headline "BBC suspends 'Top Gear' host" and knew immediately which of the three hosts was suspended before even mousing over the link or reading the article. And it comes as no surprised as to why, either. Hint: It was Jeremy Clarkson for mouthing off.

According to the BBC story itself, "Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC 'following a fracas' with a producer.

Clarkson was given what he called his 'final warning' last May after claims he used a racist word while filming the popular BBC motoring show.

At the time, he said the BBC had told him he would be sacked if he made 'one more offensive remark, anywhere, at any time'.

The BBC gave no further details on the current incident involving Clarkson, and said it would not be making any further statements at this time."

I read SS-GB and enjoyed it a lot. The main mystery is decent but also rather predictable. I think it would be more interesting to see Archer attempt to solve regular mysteries in that world. There's potential for more than one season doing that.

YEESSSS. I was gonna be annoyed if they left it where S2 ended.

Chamber-Music, anything along the lines of Glue/This Is England/Misfits/Skins that has been airing since the holidays or coming out soon?

Nothing I know of.

This Is England '90 is airing sometime this year.

I read yesterday afternoon that it was more than merely mouthing off this time and Jeremy actually threw a punch at the producer. Of course it isn't verified yet but I can see it happening.

Crazy for the BBC to sack.. or not renew Clarkson's contract. It effectively signals the end of Top Gear is about 70% Clarkson with Hammond & May making up the remaining 30%. That's not to say neither of those are unimportant, but Clarkson I'd say is the shows main host & collectively all 3 are essentially a team. I'd presume that neither of them will return to Top Gear next season with a new replacement for Clarkson. It will be a whole new line up & as a result it will no doubt be completely different.

What will probably happen is that Clarkson will end up signing with ITV or Sky just as Jonathan Ross did & go on to make his own motoring show, which will essentially be Top Gear.. only without BBC's rules and regulations tying them up.

Really quite gutted to be honest, the BBC has cost themselves quite a lot of revenue & viewers by letting Clarkson walk away.

Clarkson forced the BBC's hand.

Clarkson was already on a final warning. You can't abuse a producer for twenty minutes and then assault him simply because he because he offered you a plate of cold cuts instead of steak and chips.

laying your hands on another individual in the workplace will result in disciplinary action in most jobs.

I think the BBC will totally revamp Top Gear with a new group of presenters again. It probably won't be as successful. I could see Clarkson, Hammond and May going to Sky.
